Chiefs injury, absence updates from Day 12 of training camp

#Chiefs second-year DB Zayne Anderson left practice early with an injury. More injury and absence update news here:

The Kansas City Chiefs held their twelfth training camp practice on Tuesday at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Only one player remains on the active/PUP list in Kansas City as CB Rashad Fenton (Shoulder) officially came off of the list on Tuesday and practiced with the team. Remember, the Chiefs don’t need to clear roster space for Fenton. OT Lucas Niang (Knee) is the last player on the list and he could remain on the list through training camp and into the season.

TE Jody Fortson (quad) has missed eight practice sessions since he suffered his injury. WR Gary Jennings (concussion) and DT Taylor Stallworth (knee contusion) are both still absent from practice. This is the fifth practice that Jennings has missed and the fourth practice missed by Stallworth. Daurice Fountain (Groin) missed his second consecutive practice on Tuesday.

As for injuries during the course of practice, Chiefs DB Zayne Anderson left the practice field after individual drills and was carted up the hill in the front seat. After practice, team public relations representatives said that Anderson suffered a shoulder injury.

Chiefs injury, absence updates from Day 11 of training camp

#Chiefs WR Daurice Fountain missed practice on Monday. More injury and absence updates from training camp:

The Kansas City Chiefs held their eleventh training camp practice on Monday at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri. It was a quicker 10-10-10 practice, which features rotating sets of 10 offensive, defensive and special teams plays.

It seems like every other day, Daurice Fountain is dealing with a different injury. He was back at practice on Sunday after injuring his finger the day prior. Now, he’s sitting out of practice nursing a groin injury that has been lingering.

Two players, CB Rashad Fenton (shoulder) and OT Lucas Niang (knee), remain on the active/PUP list and sitting out of practice. TE Jody Fortson (quad) has also now missed his seventh practice session. Chiefs HC Andy Reid preached caution about the injuries. He clearly doesn’t want to rush any player back too soon and risk further injury.

WR Gary Jennings (concussion) and DT Taylor Stallworth (knee contusion) are both still absent from practice. This is the fourth practice that Jennings has missed and the third practice missed by Stallworth.

Chiefs injury, absence updates from Day 10 of training camp

#Chiefs WR Daurice Fountain was back at practice on Sunday. Plus more injury and absence updates here:

The Kansas City Chiefs held their tenth training camp practice on Sunday at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri.

After missing the majority of practice on Saturday with a finger injury, WR Daurice Fountain appears to be back participating at training camp. The finger injury required an X-Ray, but it clearly wasn’t serious enough to sideline Fountain for long.

In other injury news, CB Rashad Fenton (shoulder) and OT Lucas Niang (knee), remain on the active/PUP list and out of practice. Reid says Fenton continues to do well in his rehab and recovery, but they remain cautious about bringing him back too soon.

“Yeah, he’s doing well too,” Reid said of Fenton. “I can’t give you a date, but I mean these guys are all making progress. It’s just we’re in that part of camp where it’s going fast and furious so now when we bring them back, they have to be at that level, or something happens. So, we’re trying to get them back to speed here.”

TE Jody Fortson (quad) has now missed his sixth practice session. Andy Reid commented on Fortson’s injury after Saturday’s practice, citing the risk of reinjury as why he’s been out for so long.

“Listen, he’s progressing,” Reid said on Saturday. “So, you never know on these things. That’s where I try not to put a time on them. We’ll see. We’ll see where it goes but it doesn’t seem to be serious but it’s serious enough where we need to keep him out here and not have it happen again.”

WR Gary Jennings (concussion) and DT Taylor Stallworth (knee contusion) are both still absent from practice. This is the third practice that Jennings has missed and the second practice missed by Stallworth.

As for injuries during practice, the Chiefs didn’t have any notable injuries with players leaving the field. There was a collision in team drills between rookie CB Joshua Williams and WR JuJu Smith-Schuster that was wholly unnecessary.

While Smith-Schuster was fine and continued to practice, Williams is likely to get an earful from the coaching staff after that play.

Chiefs injury, absence updates from Day 9 of training camp

The #Chiefs had a few players absent from practice with injuries on Saturday. More here:

The Kansas City Chiefs held their ninth training camp practice on Saturday at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri.

One player returned from injury briefly on Saturday, before exiting practice again. WR Daurice Fountain was back at practice after missing the last practice on Thursday with a groin injury. He gave this practice a shot, but he suffered a finger injury shortly after the install period. FOX 4 KC’s PJ Green noticed him heading over to the medical tent on the sideline.

Fountain will get an X-Ray on his finger to determine the severity of the injury.

In other injury news, CB Rashad Fenton and RT Lucas Niang remain absent from practice and on the active/PUP list. They’ve both missed all nine of the team’s full training camp practices so far.

TE Jody Fortson remains absent from practice as he nurses a quad injury. He’s now missed five practice sessions. WR Gary Jennings suffered a concussion after a collision in the indoor practice facility on Wednesday. He remained absent from practice on Saturday as well.

A new absence from practice was DT Taylor Stallworth, who was spotted without pads and around the trainer tent on Saturday. After practice, reporters were told by Andy Reid that Stallworth is dealing with a contusion (bruise) on his knee. He added that Fortson and Fenton are progressing well from their injuries, but are not quite ready to practice yet.

Tyrann Mathieu grateful for Saints’ patience, support during absence

Tyrann Mathieu grateful for Saints’ patience and support during absence, says he’s in a good place and focused on getting up to speed at training camp:

Tyrann Mathieu is back, having returned to New Orleans Saints training camp on Thursday after missing the first six days of practice with an excused absence. He declined to elaborate on the reason for his weeklong leave during a post-practice media availability session, which the team previously described as a personal family matter, though Mathieu said he plans to “be more transparent” about his reasons for stepping away in the future.

He expressed thanks for the support from the team as an organization and individuals he’s close with, shouting out Michael Thomas and Demario Davis specifically as two teammates who reached out to check on him while he was away for the team, saying of Davis, “He’s good for the spirit, good for the soul. He’s a strong man.”

But now his focus is on getting up to speed and ramping up his activity level. Mathieu participated in 7-on-7 drills during Friday’s practice session, so the Saints are being smart in not rushing him into a full day’s work before his body has acclimated to it. Anyone who knows what the August heat in New Orleans is like can empathize with that. And for his part, Mathieu is eager to embrace football season as things get into full swing. He says he’s in a good place and ready to work.

“It’s just a great feeling, you know it’s football time. LSU is in camp, the Saints are in camp,” Mathieu grinned. “So, it’s just a great feeling right now in Louisiana.”

Chiefs injury, absence updates from Day 8 of training camp

The #Chiefs saw one player return from the active/PUP list, but they were missing two new players from practice on Thursday.

The Kansas City Chiefs held their eighth training camp practice and fourth in pads on Thursday at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri. The team was back outside for a lighter 10-10-10 practice after spending the day prior indoors due to bad weather.

OL Prince Tega Wanogho practiced for the first time during training camp on Thursday. That signals he’s been removed from the active/PUP list and is clear to participate. CB Rashad Fenton and RT Lucas Niang remain absent from practice and on the active/PUP list.

Carlos Dunlap was spotted at practice for the first time on Thursday. The veteran edge rusher reported to camp on Wednesday and practiced on Thursday as expected. He, like Orlando Brown Jr., is working on a bit of an acclimation plan. Chiefs HC Andy Reid said on Wednesday that he wanted to be cognizant of the ramp-up and repetitions that the 33-year-old edge rusher received.

TE Jody Fortson remains absent from practice as he nurses a quad injury. He’s now missed four practice sessions. Both WR Daurice Fountain and WR Gary Jennings were absent from practice with injuries suffered on Wednesday. Chiefs public relations representatives updated multiple reporters in attendance at practice on the injuries. Fountain is dealing with a groin injury, potentially the same one that caused him to miss time earlier this offseason too. Jennings suffered a concussion after a collision in the indoor practice facility on Wednesday.

Chiefs injury, absence updates from Day 7 of training camp

The #Chiefs had their rookie WR back at practice on Wednesday, plus info on Carlos Dunlap’s arrival and Rashad Fenton’s eventual return:

The Kansas City Chiefs held their seventh training camp practice and third in pads on Wednesday at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri. The team was forced indoors due to inclement weather, leading to fans being unable to attend the day of practice.

In injury news, Skyy Moore was spotted back at practice in the portion open to media filming. He was doing kick return work and looked to be fine after he left practice early on Tuesday with a hip injury.

Jody Fortson was again absent from practice as he nurses a quad injury. On Monday, Andy Reid said that he’d likely miss a few days of practice. He has now missed three days this week.

The trio of CB Rashad Fenton, RT Lucas Niang and OL Prince Tega Wanogho also remains absent from practice during their stay on the active/PUP list. Reid spoke a little bit about Fenton during media availability.

Fenton is dealing with recovery from offseason shoulder surgery.

Carlos Dunlap was scheduled to report to Chiefs training camp on Wednesday, but he did not participate in practice. This is the same situation as Orlando Brown Jr. went through earlier this week. Dunlap needs to pass the team’s conditioning test before he’s cleared to practice. He could practice as early as tomorrow according to Big Red.

“There’s a good chance,” Reid said of Dunlap practicing on Thursday. “Now, I’m going to talk to him first and we’ll get a plan together for him to get started here.”

Reid added that Dunlap is in pretty good shape and works out of the same place Brown does in Florida. Expect his acclimation regimen to be similar to the one Brown has gone through in his two days back at practice.

Tyrann Mathieu returns to Saints training camp after one-week absence

Tyrann Mathieu returned to Saints training camp on Wednesday after an excused one-week absence:

Tyrann Matheiu has returned to join his New Orleans Saints teammates at training camp on Wednesday, as first reported by Nola.com’s Jeff Duncan and confirmed by NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill. The expectation is that Mathieu will practice with everyone else in his first day back from an excused absence to open camp, further reinforcing one of the team’s best position groups.

Mathieu signed with his hometown team earlier this year and was a full participant in minicamp practices over the summer, but stepped away from the team to open training camp while tending to a personal family matter. The specifics haven’t been reported, and the team has shown respect for his privacy when asked, so it isn’t immediately clear what took him away. Players often miss a day or two for deaths or births in their families so this isn’t that unusual.

But it’s good to have Mathieu’s absence in rear view. He’s going to be an every-down starter on defense for New Orleans, paired up with Marcus Maye, another free agent signee. They have their work cut out for them replacing the departed Marcus Williams and Malcolm Jenkins, but getting reps in now should pay off when the regular season kicks off next month. Adding those two veterans to a secondary already featuring Marshon Lattimore, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and Paulson Adebo is impressive.

Chiefs injury, absence updates from Day 6 of training camp

Skyy Moore left practice early with a hip injury, plus more injury and absence news from #Chiefs training camp.

The Kansas City Chiefs held their sixth full training camp practice on Tuesday at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Starting with the most important injury news, Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes was present and accounted for throughout practice. He was stepped on during Monday’s practice and left practice briefly.

“I just got stepped on pretty hard,” Mahomes told ESPN’s Adam Teicher. “So I’m sure I’ll get a little bit of a scratch and a bruise on there, but luckily it wasn’t any of the ankle or anything like that.”

In other injury news, Jody Fortson remains absent from practice as he nurses a quad injury. Andy Reid said that he’d likely miss a few days of practice. The trio of CB Rashad Fenton, RT Lucas Niang and OL Prince Tega Wanogho also remains absent from practice during their stay on the active/PUP list.

Orlando Brown Jr. was a participant in practice after reporting to training camp. He had a truncated practice session as the team eases him back into action after missing the entirety of the offseason program. Carlos Dunlap has not yet shown up at training camp, but he’s expected to report tomorrow and practice for the first time on Thursday.

During the team’s practice session on Tuesday, Chiefs rookie WR Skyy Moore left practice early with an apparent injury. He was tangled up with DB Nazeeh Johnson at the end of a 1-on-1 drill and came up limping after the play. A team public relations representative said that Moore is dealing with a hip injury. He did walk up the hill to the indoor facility under his own power, so that’s at least a good sign. We should learn more about the injury at a later date.

Chiefs injury, absence updates from Day 5 of training camp

Injury and absence news on #Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, TE Jody Fortson and LT Orlando Brown Jr. from the team’s first padded training camp practice:

The Kansas City Chiefs held their fifth full training camp practice on Monday at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri. This was the first padded practice, which means the intensity of things picked up quite a bit. The team had a few absences to start practice and a big injury scare with their star QB during practice.

The trio of CB Rashad Fenton, RT Lucas Niang and OL Prince Tega Wanogho were absent from practice as they remain on the active/PUP list. Fenton has been spotted with Steve Spagnuolo taking some “mental reps” back behind the defense during the team install period.

As expected, Carlos Dunlap was not at practice on Monday. The team has excused Dunlap from practice to deal with some personal matters. He is expected to report on Wednesday, Aug. 3.

Orlando Brown Jr. has reported to training camp after missing the first week, but he didn’t practice with the team on Monday. That’s because the starting left tackle needed to pass a physical and go through the team’s conditioning test in order to be cleared to participate in practice. Expect him out at practice on Tuesday, assuming that he is able to pass both of those.

After leaving practice early on Saturday with a quad injury, the Chiefs were being cautious with TE Jody Fortson on Monday. He didn’t participate in the team’s first padded practice and was spotted at the trainer tent. Fortson suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 6 of last season, so airing on the side of caution is probably a good idea.

“He’s got a quad strain,” Reid said of Fortson. “It doesn’t look too bad at all. He’s swinging right back into it. I think it’ll be a few days and we’ll get him back out there.”

Patrick Mahomes tweaked his ankle during the last play of 11-on-11 portions of practice. He hobbled to the sideline where he was helped by a trainer, making a visit to the white medical tent. After a few moments, Mahomes emerged from the tent with a re-taped ankle and went back to the sidelines with his helmet. He jogged a bit, threw the ball around with Travis Kelce and participated in individual QB drills before practice ended.

“Yeah, he got stepped on,” Reid said. “He’s OK. He’s alright. An offensive lineman got pushed back into him.”

It’s a safe bet that Mahomes will be back out there again tomorrow, with his left ankle taped up.
