Chiefs injury, absence updates from Day 10 of training camp

#Chiefs WR Daurice Fountain was back at practice on Sunday. Plus more injury and absence updates here:

The Kansas City Chiefs held their tenth training camp practice on Sunday at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri.

After missing the majority of practice on Saturday with a finger injury, WR Daurice Fountain appears to be back participating at training camp. The finger injury required an X-Ray, but it clearly wasn’t serious enough to sideline Fountain for long.

In other injury news, CB Rashad Fenton (shoulder) and OT Lucas Niang (knee), remain on the active/PUP list and out of practice. Reid says Fenton continues to do well in his rehab and recovery, but they remain cautious about bringing him back too soon.

“Yeah, he’s doing well too,” Reid said of Fenton. “I can’t give you a date, but I mean these guys are all making progress. It’s just we’re in that part of camp where it’s going fast and furious so now when we bring them back, they have to be at that level, or something happens. So, we’re trying to get them back to speed here.”

TE Jody Fortson (quad) has now missed his sixth practice session. Andy Reid commented on Fortson’s injury after Saturday’s practice, citing the risk of reinjury as why he’s been out for so long.

“Listen, he’s progressing,” Reid said on Saturday. “So, you never know on these things. That’s where I try not to put a time on them. We’ll see. We’ll see where it goes but it doesn’t seem to be serious but it’s serious enough where we need to keep him out here and not have it happen again.”

WR Gary Jennings (concussion) and DT Taylor Stallworth (knee contusion) are both still absent from practice. This is the third practice that Jennings has missed and the second practice missed by Stallworth.

As for injuries during practice, the Chiefs didn’t have any notable injuries with players leaving the field. There was a collision in team drills between rookie CB Joshua Williams and WR JuJu Smith-Schuster that was wholly unnecessary.

While Smith-Schuster was fine and continued to practice, Williams is likely to get an earful from the coaching staff after that play.
