Colts worked out four LBs

Colts worked out four LBs, including a former third-round pick.

The Indianapolis Colts held a tryout for four linebackers, per the league’s transaction wire Saturday.

The four linebackers included Aaron Hansford, Justin Hilliard, Dorian O’Daniel and Kadofi Wright.

The Colts showed interest in Hansford before the 2022 NFL draft. Hilliard spent some time with the San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants and is suspended for the first two games of the season after violating the league’s performance-enhancing substance policy.

O’Daniel was a third-round pick with the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2018 NFL draft. He has appeared in 58 games (one start) while spending the majority of his time on special teams.

Wright was an undrafted free agent out of Buffalo who signed with the Denver Broncos.

Cowboys waive LB Aaron Hansford, open up roster spot

The undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M had been on the PUP list with a calf injury; he passed his physical and was waived Wednesday. | From @ToddBrock24f7

The Cowboys, just a few days into training camp, have shown themselves to be quite thin at several key positions. Now, with obvious roster deficiencies igniting talk of a possible free-agent signing or trade, a seat at the team’s 90-man table has suddenly opened up, right on cue.

Rookie linebacker Aaron Hansford has been officially waived by the club, it was announced Wednesday.

Hansford was signed this spring as an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M. He began training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list, thanks to a calf injury.

On Wednesday, Hansford passed his physical and was subsequently waived.

Several linebackers had been in line for a place in the rotation with Micah Parsons and Leighton Vander Esch. Luke Gifford remains with the club, and veterans Christian Sam and Malik Jefferson were added recently. Devin Harper was selected with the Cowboys’ final draft pick this year; Storey Jackson came in undrafted. Jabril Cox continues to rehab his ACL tear, Devante Bond will miss the 2022 season, and highly-touted rookie Damone Clark is on Non-Football Injury reserve.

Speculation can now ratchet even higher about what the team should do with the slot left by Hansford’s departure.

Wide receiver James Washington was lost until well into the season with a foot fracture suffered on Monday, but owner Jerry Jones, executive vice president Stephen Jones, and head coach Mike McCarthy have all expressed the belief that they would not need to pursue an outside pass-catcher. That would leave a bevy of inexperienced youngsters and deep-bench guys to battle for a season-opening starting spot opposite new WR1 CeeDee Lamb.

Rookie offensive lineman Matt Waletzko has a shoulder injury. His loss leaves very little depth for a group that has had to rely on it heavily in recent seasons, lost La’el Collins in the offseason, and is in charge of protecting the franchise’s $40 million quarterback.

And the battle between Jonathan Garibay and Lirim Hajrullahu for the starting kicker job hasn’t been terribly encouraging.

Yes, the Cowboys definitely need something. And they’ve determined that an eleventh linebacker isn’t it.

Could Texas A&M WR-turned-LB Aaron Hansford outperform expectations with Cowboys?

The Aggie WR converted to linebacker after injuries were derailing his trajectory. Where will his talents take him as a professional? Tyler Browning (@DiabeticTyler ) takes a look at his prospects.

Texas A&M linebacker Aaron Hansford was a four-star recruit coming out of high school and played in the Under-Armour All-American game. He was highly regarded entering the Aggie program, however injuries slowed his development. He suffered a season-ending injury in his freshman year, resulting in a medical redshirt. In 2018 he missed the entire year due to injury as well. In 2019 he made the move from wide receiver to linebacker and has played in every game since.

Sixth-round pick Devin Harper had a phenomenal showing at the NFL combine, posting a 9.51 RAS score, which is likely one of the reasons he got drafted over Hansford. However, based on the film alone, did the Cowboys get better value in their undrafted free agent Hansford? Let’s dive into the film and find out.

Aaron Hansford to sign with the Washington Commanders

Aaron Hansford joins Commanders as an undrafted free agent

According to reports, Linebacker Aaron Hansford  who went undrafted in the 2022 NFL draft, has signed with the Washington Commanders as an undrafted free agent.

Standing at 6-2 and 239 pounds, Hansford has the size and speed to become a reliably rangy sideline to sideline defender at the next level, with the potential to become a reliable Blitzer through his development process at the position during his first couple of seasons in the league.

Because of his aforementioned speed and athleticism, Hansford should become a major contributor on special teams while continuing to learn and refine his skills at the linebacker position, and could be used as a Blitzer in certain blitz packages and 3rd down situations.

Overall, Aaron Hansford checks off multiple boxes from a trait perspective, and he should be in great position to compete for a roster spot.

NFL Draft 2022: Which Aggies should hear their names called on Day 3?

Which Aggies should hear their names called on Day 3?

In the last two nights, 105 players have been selected in the NFL draft, in a bit of a surprise, only two of those players, Kenyon Green, who was selected 15th overall by the Houston Texans, and defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal who was picked 84th by the Pittsburgh Steelers, attended Texas A&M University. Many draft pundits believed atleast a third Aggie would be selected by the end of the second day. Now it seems as though the third and final day will be the day of the Aggies as we expect to see six Aggies picked before Mr. Irrelevant’s name is called in Las Vegas.

2022 NFL draft: Which A&M players are waiting to hear their name called?

2022 NFL draft: Which A&M players are waiting to hear their name called?

The first day and first round of the 2022 NFL draft are officially over, with 32 men hearing their names called and ready to start their professional football careers. For Texas A&M, offensive lineman Kenyon Green became the first of hopefully a number of Aggies drafted, selected 15th overall by the Houston Texans, staying close to home and looking to make an impact right away.

With seven other Aggies looking to be drafted on day two and day three, teams will be eyeing areas of need to supplement their rosters, and with this being one of the more talented A&M draft classes, teams will be getting a steal in later rounds, as we see every year after the first round concludes. Let’s see who’s left before the second and third rounds begin.

7 linebackers for the Eagles to watch at the 2022 Senior Bowl

#TheDraftStartsInMOBILE and here are 7 linebackers for the #Eagles to watch at the 2022 #SeniorBowl

The Eagles are in Mobile and as the second day of Senior Bowl practices begins, we’re set to take a look at seven linebackers Howie Roseman should have an eye on.

Philadelphia hasn’t selected a linebacker in the first round since 1979 and with three important first-round picks in the 2021 draft, Roseman could finally break the curse and target one of the athletic, ball-hawking linebackers that should be available.

Utah’s Devin Lloyd has seen his stock skyrocket, and the talented linebacker decided to sit out the festivities at the last minute, but there are several other intriguing prospects to watch.
