Oregon S Aaron Flowers named pre-season True Freshman All-American

Oregon Ducks safety Aaron Flowers has been named a pre-season true-freshman All-American, according to On3.

The Oregon Ducks signed the best recruiting class in school history last December, and some of the top players from that class are expected to have a massive impact this fall.

One of those true freshmen is safety Aaron Flowers, a 4-star recruit from the 2024 class. On Monday, Flowers was named to the On3 pre-season True Freshman All-American Team.

Flowers was one of the top-rated players in the Ducks’ 2024 class, which ranked as the third-best in the nation. Standing at 6-foot, 200 pounds, Flowers is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 6 overall player and No. 4 safety in the nation for the 2024 class.

Here’s what On3’s Charles Power had to say about Flowers:

Aaron Flowers is a safety that we were very high on at On3 in the 2024 cycle and has a well-rounded skill set with his physical ability, athleticism, cover skills and ability as a tackler. It sounds like he’s made a very positive impression early on in Eugene and looks to be one in contention for early playing time. It wouldn’t be shocking to see him work his way onto the field and continue to grow his role over the course of the season with the Ducks.

According to the sources that I’ve talked to inside Oregon’s program, Flowers has been one of the biggest young stars in fall camp so far this year, and there seems to be a strong possibility that he will crack the defensive rotations early this season, if not the starting lineup for the Ducks before the season is over.

Aaron Flowers named to true freshman watchlist ahead of 2024 season

True freshman Aaron Flowers has a chance to make a significant impact for the Ducks in the 2024 season, according to CBS Sports.

In most spring games, there’s a players that arises to the top and shows great potential. But then the regular season comes and that same player is stuck down on the depth chart and never heard from again.

Most think that won’t be the case for Oregon true freshman safety Aaron Flowers. In his first appearance in the 2024 Spring Game, Flowers had four tackles, two solo and two assisted, but he was in on many other plays and seemingly always the ball, especially for a true freshman who isn’t supposed to know all that much.

According to CBS Sports, Flowers could be one of those true freshmen in the 2024 season that could make an impact right away for their team.

“There are some snaps to grab at safety behind Kobe Savage and Tysheem Johnson. That is a plus for Flowers, who greatly impressed during spring ball and had a huge spring game,” said writer Chris Hummer. “Given that almost every other player in the safety mix is an unproven underclassman, Flowers definitely has a path to the field.”

Flowers was the No. 7 safety and the No. 102 overall player in the Class of 2024, according to 247Sports.

Oregon S Kodi DeCambra enters the transfer portal

Kodi DeCambra, a redshirt freshman safety for the Oregon Ducks, enters the transfer portal one day after Oregon’s spring game.

Oregon Ducks safety Kodi DeCambra has entered the transfer portal, according to reports from 247Sports, On3Sports, and others. DeCambra was a 4-star recruit in the class of 2023 — according to 247Sports — with four years of remaining eligibility after using his redshirt option in his first season.

On Saturday, DeCambra was absent from the Ducks spring game, and after the game, James Crepea of the Oregoniareported that DeCambra was expected to enter the transfer portal. On Sunday, his intent to transfer was made official.

In 2023, DeCambra took just 6 snaps on defense for Oregon, all in the Ducks’ first game against Portland State. DeCambra did not record any stats on those plays.

Oregon brought in a high volume of good defensive backs in the 2024 offseason, which could’ve factored into DeCambra’s decision to transfer. One of the players competing with DeCambra was Aaron Flowers, a safety recruit in the class of 2024, who performed well in the spring game, making four tackles and one pass breakup.

During his initial recruitment, DeCambra took visits with Washington, Oregon State, and Hawaii, so look out for those schools as potential transfer destinations for the redshirt freshman. DeCambra is from Las Vegas, so there’s also always the chance that he wants to go somewhere closer to home.

Oregon 2024 safety Aaron Flowers named one of nation’s biggest instant-impact freshmen

Oregon Ducks 2024 safety Aaron Flowers has been named one of the most likely instant-impact players in the 2024 class.

One thing that we’ve learned about Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks staff is that they are not shy about playing young players.

“If you’re good enough, you’re old enough.”

It’s a saying that Dan Lanning has uttered dozens of times since taking over in Eugene, and he proved that last year, with the trio of true freshmen edge rushers — Matayo Uiagalelei, Teitum Tuioti, and Blake Purchase — serving as valued members of the rotation all year long. We also saw guys like Iapani Laloulu, Cole Martin, and Kenyon Sadiq get some valuable run as well.

On Sunday, we looked at the 8 players of Oregon’s historic 2024 class and tried to identify which freshmen would have the biggest impact this upcoming season. On3 was of a similar mind, as they named their most instant-impact candidates from the 2024 class this past weekend as well.

Oregon 4-star safety Aaron Flowers was a member of that list.

Here’s what On3’s Cody Bellaire had to say about Flowers:

Aaron Flowers had one of the stronger senior seasons among defensive back prospects in the 2024 cycle. The Forney (Texas) High product picked off seven passes this fall. Flowers proved to be a defensive weapon who can make plays at every level of the field. At Oregon, he could provide a boost that could would further strengthen Dan Lanning’s defense. The Ducks also lose their two starting safeties in Evan Williams and Steve Stephens IV to the NFL Draft as well as two rotational defensive backs in Trikweze Bridges and Daymon David being on their way out. There should more than enough snaps for the taking for Aaron Flowers. We could see Flowers potentially carving out a role for himself early on as a freshman and continue to see his snaps increase as the season rolls along.

As mentioned, the Ducks are in need of some help at the safety position this offseason. They already added former Kansas State star Kobe Savage via the transfer portal, and could potentially look to add other players at the position as well.

Regardless, though, it appears that Flowers is someone who could come in and have an impact on the secondary right away.

SIGNED: 4-star safety Aaron Flowers is officially a Duck

Aaron Flowers, a 4-star safety recruit, inked his national letter of intent for Oregon on Wednesday.

Aaron Flowers, a 4-star safety in the class of 2024, has signed his national letter of intent, officially making him an Oregon Duck. Flowers has been committed to Oregon since last spring, and he is the highest-rated safety recruit for the Ducks, a position where Oregon lacks depth.

Flowers is ranked as the No. 9 safety and the No. 110 overall player in the class of 2024, and it’s easy to see why. With his elite speed at the safety position, Flowers can cover a lot of ground in pass coverage, but he is also physical enough to be a force in the run game.

Despite his age, Flowers could see some playing time in 2024. Safety wasn’t the strongest position for Oregon in 2023, and they are losing Evan Williams and Steve Stephens IV this offseason. Tysheem Johnson is the only returning safety who played a high volume of snaps in 2023, which means there is a hole Flowers could potentially fill.

Currently, Oregon is pursuing Kansas State transfer Kobe Savage to fill the hole at safety, and freshman Cole Martin is expected to receive a starting role in 2024. Still, Flowers possesses enough talent to make playing a consistent amount in his freshman year a possibility, which would benefit his development. I expect Flowers to fill the role Martin had in 2023, playing in most games, but not the key snaps.

Here are some highlights of Flowers:

Oklahoma Sooners offer Oregon commit, 4-Star OL Fox Crader

The Oklahoma Sooners offer 2024 four-star offensive tackle, and Oregon Ducks commit Fox Crader.

The Oklahoma Sooners and the Oregon Ducks have created an intriguing rivalry on the recruiting trail since Brent Venables and Dan Lanning arrived in their respective spots.

Oregon flipped wide receiver [autotag]Ashton Cozart[/autotag] in the 2022 class, and the Sooners earned the signature of [autotag]Peyton Bowen[/autotag]. Bowen was committed to Notre Dame but, during the early signing period, flipped his commitment to the Ducks before ultimately signing with the Sooners.

Just last week, Oregon pulled a commitment from [autotag]Aaron Flowers[/autotag], who had been trending toward the Sooners for several months.

Now they seem to be at the table again, this time for 2024 four-star offensive tackle [autotag]Fox Crader[/autotag]. Crader is committed to the Ducks, but just spent some time in Norman and earned an offer from [autotag]Brent Venables[/autotag], [autotag]Bill Bedenbaugh[/autotag], and the Sooners.

Crader hails from Vancouver, Wash., and is a consensus four-star player. He’s the No. 151 player in the Top247 and ranks No. 72 in the On300. Oklahoma’s had some success recruiting Washington since Venables arrived with the additions of [autotag]Heath Ozaeta[/autotag] and [autotag]Jasaiah Wagoner[/autotag] in the 2023 recruiting class.

Crader has the athleticism, length, and physicality to be a dynamic player at offensive tackle. His basketball background shows up on tape, where he displays good lateral agility and the ability to play in space.

Sooners miss out on four-star DB Aaron Flowers; chooses Oregon over OU, USC

Oklahoma misses out on four-star defensive back Aaron Flowers, who commits to the Oregon Ducks.

There was a time when it looked like the Oklahoma Sooners were the frontrunners for four-star defensive back Aaron Flowers. A crystal ball from back in December indicated the Sooners were trending in a positive direction.

Flowers announced his commitment to the Oregon Ducks on Friday afternoon. The commitment comes as a bit of a surprise. In the last month, USC began to make strides in securing Flowers in the 2024 cycle. But it’s Dan Lanning and the Ducks that pick up the blue chip defensive back prospect.

There’s a bit of irony to the story. The Sooners picked up the surprise commitment of Peyton Bowen, pulling him from the Ducks at the buzzer of the early signing period in December. Now, it’s the Ducks returning the favor and picking up Flowers’ commitment.

Flowers is a versatile defensive back capable of playing corner or safety and was being recruited by both secondary coaches at Oklahoma.

USC received several projections late in the recruitment, but it was their Pac-12 rivals to the north that earned the commitment.

In March, Oklahoma turned the heat up in their recruitment of four-star safety [autotag]Jaydan Hardy[/autotag]. Out of Lewisville, Texas, Hardy is an athletic player, capable of providing some playmaking to the backend of the defense.

With Flowers’ commitment done, the Sooners turn their attention to Michael Hawkins, who is set to commit on Saturday, April 8. The Sooners are battling it out with TCU for the four-star quarterback’s pledge.

Where Oregon’s 2024 class ranks nationally after latest commitment

With the addition of 4-star Aaron Flowers, the Ducks took a big jump in the 2024 recruiting rankings.

Early in the year, the Oregon Ducks had a top-10 class nationally after landing a flurry of four-star players, including a pair of top-100 wide receivers in Tyseer Denmark and Jordan Anderson, as well as a top-150 player in OT Fox Crader.

Over the last couple of months, that top-10 national ranking started to slip a little bit as the Ducks got passed by other teams picking up commitments. While Oregon was experiencing positive momentum as far as making recruiting cutdowns and scheduling visits, the commitments were infrequent.

That changed on Friday afternoon, with 4-star safety Aaron Flowers announcing his commitment to the Ducks. Flowers is rated by 247Sports as the No. 109 player in the 2024 class, and the No. 9 safety. He is the sixth player to join the Ducks’ 2024 class, all of whom are rated as 4-stars.

So where did his addition bump Oregon to in the national recruiting rankings? Let’s take a look:

Ducks land commitment from 4-star S Aaron Flowers

Big-time commitment for the Ducks. Oregon lands 4-star S Aaron Flowers, the No. 109 player in the 2024 class.

There has been a lot of positive recruiting buzz for the Oregon Ducks over the past several weeks, but not many commitments to show for it. That changed on Friday afternoon, with Dan Lanning and Co. picking up one of the top defensive backs in the 2024 class.

4-star safety Aaron Flowers announced on Friday that he would join the Ducks, picking Oregon over the USC Trojans.

Flowers is rated by 247Sports as the No. 109 player in the 2024 class, and the No. 9 safety. He took a visit to Oregon earlier in March, and left Eugene with glowing reviews.

Flowers is now the sixth player in the 2024 class for the Ducks, all of whom are rated as 4-stars. He is the first defensive back in the class, but joins an impressive group recruited by defensive backs coach Demetrice Martin and new safeties coach Chris Hampton that includes Daylen Austin, Roderick Pleasant, Jahlil Florence, Jalil Tucker, and many others.

Oklahoma Sooners On3 recruiting winners for the month of March

After picking up a pair of commitments in the month of March, the Oklahoma Sooners were one of On3’s big recruiting winners.

The 2024 recruiting cycle had been relatively quiet for Oklahoma heading into March. They were generating a lot of buzz on the trail, but no one had committed to the Sooners yet.

As the calendar’s shifted to April, things are a bit different now.

The Sooners picked up commitments in the 2024 and 2025 recruiting classes and, because of it, were named one of five winners for the month of March by On3’s Keegan Pope.

After a monstrous close to the 2023 cycle, including flipping five-star safety [autotag]Peyton Bowen[/autotag] away from Oregon in December, Oklahoma has been taking things show in 2024.

Heading into March, they didn’t have a single commitment, but four-star defensive back [autotag]Jeremiah Newcombe[/autotag] changed that with his decision earlier this month. Now the Sooners weren’t the only program to get a 2024 commitment, but what put them on this list is the addition of 2025 quarterback [autotag]Kevin Sperry[/autotag].

The Prosper (Texas) Rock Hill star is one of the country’s top passers in the rising junior class, and he immediately gives Brent Venables an early cornerstone to build his 2025 class around. – Pope, On3

The Newcombe commitment came like a gust down the Oklahoma plains. Out of nowhere. The Sooners had him in town for a visit and then the predictions favoring Oklahoma showered down like a mid-Spring thunderstorm. The four-star prospect out of Arizona didn’t waste any time, committing to the Sooners just a few days after his visit. With the commitment, [autotag]Jeremiah Newcombe[/autotag] became the first of the 2024 recruiting cycle for [autotag]Brent Venables[/autotag] and the Sooners.

Interestingly, beating Newcombe to the punch was 2025 quarterback Kevin Sperry. Sperry, who spent time with the Sooners during a camp last Summer, eagerly awaited the offer from [autotag]Jeff Lebby[/autotag] and Oklahoma. Like Newcombe, he didn’t waste any time, giving the Sooners their quarterback for the 2025 class.

As Pope mentions, [autotag]Kevin Sperry[/autotag] gives the Sooners a cornerstone to build around. Like with [autotag]Jackson Arnold[/autotag] in the 2023 cycle, getting that early commitment from your quarterback of the cycle, allows the Sooners to focus their efforts at adding talent to put around their highly coveted quarterback prospect.

And this week, Oklahoma could have its quarterback for the 2024 cycle, with [autotag]Michael Hawkins[/autotag] expected to announce his commitment on Saturday, April 8. Everything points to the Sooners at this point, but TCU is very much a player for the Frisco Emerson quarterback prospect.

Committing the day before Hawkins is another Sooners’ target, safety [autotag]Aaron Flowers[/autotag]. Although, a recent crystal ball prediction from Brandon Drumm of OUInsider has Flowers heading west to join Alex Grinch and the USC Trojans.

Regardless of what happens this weekend, as we saw a year ago, as we inch closer to the Summer, look for Oklahoma to pick up some steam. By the end of July, we should have a great idea of what this recruiting class is going to look like for the [autotag]2024 recruiting cycle[/autotag].
