Alabama MBB lands commitment from grad transfer Aaron Estrada

Alabama basketball lands a big-time commitment out of the transfer portal!

Nate Oats and the Crimson Tide landed a huge commitment from a grad transfer guard out of Hofstra, Aaron Estrada.

Alabama men’s basketball will have a mostly new-looking team for the 2023-2024 college basketball season. After losing multiple players to the draft and transfer portal, Oats had to first recruit an assistant coaching staff due to all three former assistants landing head coaching jobs elsewhere.

In the 2022-2023 season, Estrada had a per-game average of 20.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists.

This isn’t Estrada’s first time in the portal. As Tuscaloosa News‘ Nick Kelly writes, “Estrada is well-traveled, too. He started his college basketball career with Saint Peter’s in 2019-20. Then he transferred to Oregon for the 2020-21 season before eventually departing for Hofstra. Estrada averaged only 12.4 minutes per game with the Ducks.”

Roll Tide Wire will continue to cover Alabama basketball as the 2023 offseason progresses.

Alabama MBB reaches out to two-time CAA Player of the Year Aaron Estrada

Hofstra point guard Aaron Estrada entered the transfer portal and the Tide have already reached out

Hofstra point guard Aaron Estrada entered the transfer portal on Tuesday afternoon, and a handful of programs have already reached out including the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Estrada began his college career at St. Peter’s in 2019. He spent one season playing for the Peacocks. He averaged 8.1 points per game and shot 40.5% from the floor.

He transferred to Oregon following his freshman campaign. Estrada played in just nine games for the Ducks while averaging 3.1 points per game.

After struggling to find his footing in the PAC-12, Estrada transferred closer to home to play for Hofstra head coach and former NBA guard Speedy Claxton.

Estrada spent the past two seasons as the focal point of the Pride roster. He was named as the CAA Player of the Year in 2022 and 2023. As a senior, Estrada averaged 20.1 points per game, 5.5 rebounds per game, and 4.3 assists per game. He shot an efficient 47.8% from the field and 36.8% from three.

Alabama will have to out-recruit the likes of Arkansas, Kansas State, Tennessee, and Georgetown. The Tide previously landed a New Jersey native through the transfer portal in Jahvon Quinerly. Now, they are trying to do so again by recruiting Estrada.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the Alabama baseball program and its involvement in the transfer portal.

He is a guard that Rutgers and head coach Steve Pikiell know all too well.

Against Rutgers in the first round of the NIT, he scored 13 points in an 88-86 Hoftra win. He followed that up in the second round with 18 points in a loss at Cincinnati.
