Gators lacrosse earns 10th-straight AAC Tournament title

The Orange and Blue never trailed in the game en route to the team’s 13th double-digit victory this spring.

The Florida lacrosse program completed a decade of dominance on Saturday after earning its 10th-straight American Athletic Conference Tournament Championship. The ninth-ranked Gators defeated the 18th-ranked James Madison Dukes by a final score of 21-11.

The Orange and Blue never trailed in the game and was only tied once (other than 0-0) en route to the team’s 13th double-digit victory this spring. The offensive onslaught was propelled by four different Gators racking up hat-tricks — the first time that has happened since April 18, 2021.

Emily Heller and Ashley Gonzalez both scored four goals while the latter added two assists, while Danielle Pavinelli put up three goals and three assists, accounting for 11 of Florida’s 21 goals and five of the team’s 11 assists. They — along with Kaitlyn Davies, Elyse FInnelle and Liz Harrison — were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Florida now awaits the results from the Selection Show Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2, which will determine their seeding and matchup for the NCAA Tournament.

AAC Tournament: Temple vs. UAB odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s AAC Tournament: Temple vs. UAB odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Temple Owls (16-19) and UAB Blazers (22-11) meet in an American Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament Championship on Sunday at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. ET (ESPN/ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Temple vs. UAB odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The 11th-seeded Owls have made a miraculous run to the title game, and Temple is all but playing for a spot in the First Four with an automatic bid. Temple has bubble teams all over quaking in their boots heading into Selection Sunday.

Temple has won a season-high 5 straight games, while also covering in a season-best 5 consecutive outings, all as an underdog. It is 10-3 ATS in the past 13 games since Feb. 8.

The 4th-seeded UAB Blazers have caught fire, too, topping Wichita State and No. 1 seed South Florida, the regular-season champ, while winning and covering 4 straight outings. The Blazers kicked off the hot streak with a 100-72 win at Temple on March 7 as a 7-point favorite as the Over (141.5) cashed.

Temple vs. UAB picks and predictions

Prediction

UAB 73, Temple 68

Moneyline

Backing UAB (-300) would cost you 3 times your potential return, and there is never a reason to bet such a heavy favorite. Even as part of a multi-team parlay, including the Blazers would suck all of the value out of your ticket.

AVOID, and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread

TEMPLE +6.5 (-110) is worth playing, as this team has suddenly caught fire and become cover kings after a lost season.

The last time the Owls tasted defeat was against UAB, and it was the last time Temple failed to cover, too. The Blazers took care of the Owls by 28 points in Philadelphia, but Temple has started to believe. It has ousted Charlotte, FAU and SMU in the past 3 games, each as a 6-point underdog or higher. It’s hard to ignore the results from 10 days ago at home against UAB -6.5 (-110), but it’s also hard to ignore than past 4 days, too.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

OVER 137.5 (-115) is an awfully low number considering the fact UAB was able to go for 100 points in the regular-season meeting just 10 days ago.

The Blazers have cashed the Over in 3 of the past 5 games, while allowing at least 70 points in 5 of the previous 6 outings.

The Owls hit their 1st Over in 4 AAC Tournament games in the upset of FAU on Saturday afternoon. The Over was 3-0 in the final 3 regular-season games, however, including the loss to UAB. Go high, and feel confidently in doing so.

AAC Tournament: Temple vs. FAU odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Temple vs. FAU odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Temple Owls (15-19) and FAU Owls (25-7) meet in an American Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament semifinal Saturday at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET (ESPN2/ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Temple vs. FAU odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The 11th-seeded Temple Owls struggled in the regular season, but they have caught fire in Fort Worth. The Owls have ousted UTSA, SMU and Charlotte, while getting fitted for Cinderella’s slipper. Now, Temple is trying to win the Battle of Owls, picking up the biggest upset yet.

The 2nd-seeded FAU Owls held off North Texas Friday, winning 77-71 to cover as 5.5-point favorites in most shops as the Over (137) cashed. FAU has won 4 in a row while covering the past 3 outings. The Over has hit in each of the past 3 games, too.

FAU topped Temple 80-68 Feb. 15 in Boca Raton in the only regular-season meeting while failing to cover as a 20-point favorite. The Under (148.5) cashed in that battle, too.

Temple vs. FAU picks and predictions

Prediction

FAU 74, Temple 65

Moneyline

It wouldn’t be worth betting FAU (-1200).

PASS. Bet the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

TEMPLE +13.5 (-110) will see Cinderella’s slipper shatter Saturday, as the improbable run in the AAC Tournament comes to an end. But the underdog Owls will hang on for the cover against the Owls of FAU -13.5 (-110).

FAU has covered the past 3 games, but it struggled as a double-digit favorite this season. FAU is just 2-7 ATS in the past 9 games when favored by 10 or more points.

On the flip side, Temple has covered 4 in a row, all as an underdog, and 9 of the past 12 games dating back to Feb. 8.

Over/Under

UNDER 142.5 (-115) is the lean, but play a half-unit at the most.

The Over cashed in the final 3 games of the regular season for Temple, but the Under has hit in all 3 contests in the AAC Tournament. The Under also cashed in the only regular-season meeting with FAU Feb. 15.

FAU cashed the Over against North Texas Friday, but the Under has a slight 7-6 advantage in the past 13 outings.

AAC Tournament: Temple vs. Charlotte odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Temple vs. Charlotte odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Temple Owls (14-19) and Charlotte 49ers (19-11) meet in the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament Friday at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth. Tip-off is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET (ESPNU/ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Temple vs. Charlotte odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

No. 11 seed Temple racked up a 64-61 win over No. 14 UTSA in the 1st round Wednesday, and surprised No. 6 SMU in a 75-60 upset to get to the quarters. It’s the 1st time Temple has won 2 games in a single AAC Tournament since joining the conference.

No. 3 seed Charlotte searches for its 20th win in its 1st appearance in Fort Worth, and 1st-ever AAC Tournament game. The 49ers struggled down the stretch in late February into early March, losing 3 in a row, but they closed with back-to-back wins against Rice and at East Carolina to grab a little momentum heading in.

These teams met once in the regular season, with Charlotte narrowly escaping Philadelphia with a 73-70 win as Temple grabbed the cover as a 6-point underdog with the Over (133.5) coming in.

Temple vs. Charlotte picks and predictions

Prediction

Charlotte 73, Temple 69

Moneyline

Backing Charlotte (-300) will cost you 3 times your potential return, and that’s way too much risk on a singular bet, especially against a Temple (+240) side which has won 2 games in Fort Worth already and has a little bit of confidence heading into play.

PASS.

Against the spread

TEMPLE +6.5 (-105) has a little momentum, winning a pair of games in Fort Worth already. It has gotten used to Dickies Arena and should have a little confidence, while Charlotte -6.5 (-115) takes a little bit to feel things out in its 1st appearance of the tourney.

In addition, the 49ers struggled down the stretch, frittering away a chance at a higher seed. Charlotte was playing South Florida for 1st place at one point Feb. 6 in Tampa. It lost then, and the 49ers are just 5-4 straight up and 2-7 ATS since, including a win and non-cover against the Owls.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

OVER 132.5 (-110) might be the best betting option on the board.

The Over cashed in 2 of the final 3 games for Charlotte, and the 49ers defense has allowed 69 or more points in 9 of the past 12 outings, including at Temple Feb. 11.

The Owls have hit the Under in each of their 2 games in the AAC tourney so far, averaging 69.5 PPG on offense while allowing just 60.5 PPG, so be careful and don’t get carried away. However, the Over is 7-5 across the past 12 games for Temple, too.

Houston (22-3) vs Memphis (16-7) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why Houston Will Win

The Cougars rolled past Tulane 77-52 with its normal offensive display of strength inside and out. Good from everywhere, great on the free throw line, and dominant on the boards, they won their fifth straight game and looked like they’re ramping up at just the right time.

One of those wins was in a 67-64 battle with Memphis just a few days ago when the O wasn’t working.

It’s a versatile Cougar team that has the second-best scoring D in America to go along with the three point bombing and and 44% overall shooting clip. But …

Why Memphis Will Win

Memphis can play D, especially from three.

It might not have the offensive power the Cougars bring, but the Tigers can hit the boards hard, force a ton of mistakes, and grind down the tempo when needed.

They weren’t perfect in the 70-62 win over UCF, but they got the job down on the free throw line – NOT a given for them – and seemed to erase just about everything on the defensive glass.

To pull this off, they have to keep Houston from going on too many – if any – big scoring bursts, the can’t be off from the outside, and …

What’s Going To Happen

Memphis can’t get away with a whole lot of fouls. They sent Houston to the free throw line 21 times in the first meeting, and that was enough to lose in the tight battle.

Neither team is all that great on the free throw line, but Houston is better. It’s better defensively, too.

Cincinnati (11-10) vs Wichita State (16-4) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why Cincinnati Will Win

The Bearcats had to hold on late, but they came up with a fantastic performance in a 74-71 win over SMU. They were great on the boards, solid at moving the ball around for the easy shots, and good enough on the free throw line when they had to be.

Now they get a Wichita State team that doesn’t force a ton of big mistakes, is just okay on the boards, and should be happy hanging around at UC’s tempo. In a perfect world, the Bearcats are able to muck it up a bit, keep the score in the low 70s or less, and own the glass.

USF was able to push the Shockers a bit too much on the boards in the 68-67 quarterfinal, but …

Why Wichita State Will Win

Wichita State played poorly and still won.

It couldn’t do much from the field and was off from three, but it got to the free throw line against the Bulls, hit a few clutch late shots, and didn’t screw up enough or turn it over to matter.

For all of the good things Cincinnati does, this isn’t a big team from three and it fouls a whole lot. Wichita State – as it showed against USF – is decent at getting to the line and should be at least a +5 there …

What’s Going To Happen

The Shockers lived on the free throw line in the first game between the two in a 82-76 win in mid-January.

They shot 34 free throws and 12 more than the Bearcats did, and history should repeat itself.

This isn’t a good shooting Wichita State team overall, but it makes enough threes to matter, the defense is solid, and there aren’t a slew of screw-ups. Don’t expect anything aesthetically pleasing in this, but it’ll be effective for the Shockers.

Houston (21-3) vs Tulane (10-12) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why Tulane Will Win

Tulane pulled up out of a four-game losing streak nosedive with a 77-70 win over Tulsa with a great defensive performance in the second half and with one of its better shooting games.

The Green Wave might struggle from three and don’t shoot all that well in general, but they’re solid at forcing mistakes – the got ten steals against the Golden Hurricane – and they make up for several problems by hitting everything from the free throw line.

They made nine more free throws – they’re the best in the AAC on the line – and they need to keep attacking the rim. Houston commits a ton of fouls, but …

Why Houston Will Win

The first two games were ugly.

The Cougars rolled Tulane 71-50 in early January and 83-60 a few weeks later by shooting well, stopping the Green Wave offense from doing anything consistently right, and by coming up with lots and lots and LOTS of rebounds, 87 in all.

Tulane has to get way hot really fast, the passing has to be better and sharper against the nation’s second-best D, and it has to at least hold its own on the glass.

What’s Going To Happen

Houston has the exact wrong type of team for Tulane.

The Cougars are too strong from the field and too tough defensively. Making things even worse is their ability on the free throw line – the Green Wave can’t even count on winning the free throw battle.

The only way to beat Houston is to hit 45% or better from three – at least to get into the discussion – and that’s not going to happen.

Memphis (15-7) vs UCF (11-11) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why UCF Will Win

The Knights played well in the first half of a 72-62 win over East Carolina to move on. They were great at stopping the Pirates from three, got to the line more and made the most of their chances, and they stayed comfortably ahead.

It’s a good enough team from three to stick around against Memphis – it leads the AAC in three point field goal percentage – but it has to attack the rim against a defense that comes up with a whole lot of fouls.

Get to the line – like it did against ECU – make the free throw, and hope the Tigers are off.

Why Memphis Will Win

There weren’t any issues in the back-to-back games in early February – the Tigers followed up a 96-69 win with a 75-61 victory.

Memphis is fantastic at getting out and guarding from three – UCF hit 12 of 46 threes in the two games – it generates enough pressure to come up with a slew of takeaways, and it’s good enough on the boards to win by a big margin.

As long as the Tigers don’t get into a free throw contest, they’re going to be fine.

What’s Going To Happen

The Tigers aren’t normally a top shooting team, but they couldn’t miss in the two previous wins over the Knights. Even if they’re not hot, they’ll own the boards and come up with at least ten offensive rebounds to make up for the misfires.

Wichita State (15-4) vs USF (9-12) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why USF Will Win

The Bulls were able to survive Temple in a 73-71 win to keep the season alive for another day. It wasn’t pretty – especially from three or the free throw line – but the Bulls managed to get by on the boards and with just enough key answers to big Owl shots.

If everything goes right, Wichita State keeps having problems shooting from the field – it’s way too inconsistent – and USF is able to own the defensive glass.

The Bulls were able to push the Shockers into overtime back in December after owning the glass – going +12 in rebounding margin – and …

Why Wichita State Will Win

Wichita State destroyed USF just a few days ago in an 80-63 win even though it was -10 in rebounding margin.

There isn’t anything flashy about this team. It usually makes up for its mistakes by hitting the offensive glass hard, there are enough three point shots taken to make up for the inability to hit them on a consistent basis, and – like it did against Houston – it just knows how to grind its way to wins.

As long as this isn’t a shootout everything will be fine.

What’s Going To Happen

It’s not going to be a shootout.

USF struggles to get to 60 points – it doesn’t have the offense to drag Wichita State out of its style. The Bulls will never be totally out of it – they’ll win the rebounding battle – but the Shockers will be defensively great from three and will keep on maximizing its possessions.
