Gabriel Winowich updates his recruitment: ‘I’m absolutely still 100 percent committed…nothing that could change that’

Rutgers football recruiting: Gabriel Winowich excited about his commitment, even a month later.

Gabriel Winowich remains the top-ranked commit to Rutgers football’s 2024 recruiting class. The standout running back from Michigan is an intriguing member of this recruiting class.

And, he is fully committed to the Scarlet Knights.

A four-star out of Detroit Country Day (Franklin, MI), Winowich is a four-star according to 247Sports, where he is ranked the No. 194 recruit in the nation. He gave his verbal to Rutgers in January following a visit to the program.

That hasn’t changed over the past month he tells Rutgers Wire.

“Yes I’m absolutely still 100 percent committed and there’s nothing that could change that,” Winowich told Rutgers Wire.

“And yes I’ve been recruiting a lot of kids to come join and with the help of A.J. (Surace) we’ve been really able to reach out to a lot of kids.”

Rutgers football got a major boost earlier in the month with the commitment of quarterback A.J. Surace. The quarterback from Notre Dame Prep (Lawrenceville Prep) is the top-ranked quarterback in New Jersey.

He has said that he will be an active recruiter and a leader of the class.

“Well I was pumped up after I heard about his commitment and I was just really excited about the great start we’ve had for this class of 24’ so far,” Winowich had previously told Rutgers Wire.

“I really think his commitment is going to help spike this class a lot and it allows us to reach out to more kids and help build this class up. Looking forward to what the future holds!”

Rutgers currently has three players committed in the 2024 recruiting class:

  • Kenny Jones, a three-star offensive lineman from New Jersey
  • A.J. Surace, a three-star quarterback from New Jersey
  • Gabriel Winowich, a four-star running back from Michigan

Quarterback trainer Tony Racioppi says Rutgers football commit A.J. Surace ‘is a perfect fit for the Big Ten Conference’

Rutgers football commit A.J. Surace has elite arm strength according to his quarterback trainer.

A.J. Surace is an ideal fit for the Rutgers football offense and has the skillset needed for the Big Ten.

So says Tony Racioppi, the quarterback trainer to Surace, who committed to Rutgers football early in February. The three-star quarterback is one of the top quarterback recruits in the Northeast.

Surace is ranked the No. 8 player in New Jersey by 247Sports. He was offered by the likes of Boston College, Duke, Indiana, Michigan State, Northwestern, Pittsburgh, Temple and Tennessee among others.

The class of 2024 quarterback out of Notre Dame Prep (Lawrenceville, N.J.) has been mentored and trained by the highly-respected Racioppi for several years.

“AJ is a perfect fit for the Big Ten Conference. Strong pocket passer who can drive the football with elite arm talent to all areas of field yet athletic enough to extend plays,” Racioppi said about Surace.

“His work ethic, toughness and ability to process information is why he’ll be a successful quarterback in college on top of his physical skills.”

Racioppi is one of the nation’s premier quarterback coaches and is based out of TEST Football Academy in Martinsville, N.J. He has personally worked with a number of high school quarterbacks who have become Power Five quarterbacks.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett, a first round pick in last spring’s NFL draft, has been trained by Racioppi since he was in high school.

“I’d say he’s got top 10 in the country in his class in arm talent,” Racioppi said.

“The exciting thing is he’s so young for his grade so between that and his elite work ethic he’ll continue to grow.”
