Watch: 49ers’ Charvarius Ward intercepts Kyler Murray for pick-six vs. Cardinals

Quickly after Deebo Samuel got the 49ers on the board against the Cardinals, the defense got involved for a score of their own.

After the Arizona Cardinals landed an opening punch against the San Francisco 49ers with a touchdown on the opening drive of the game, the defense responded on the next drive.

Quickly after Deebo Samuel walked in a 12-yard touchdown reception, the San Francisco defense got involved in the scoring. After a pair of near-turnover worthy plays, the San Francisco defense made sure to get a turnover on the third try.

Kyler Murray tossed an arrant throw over the middle of the field that fell into the hands of 49ers corner Charvarius Ward. Once Ward got the ball in his hands, he didn’t let it go until he surged past the goal line for a pick six to give the 49ers a 14-7 lead in the first half.

Watch: 49ers’ Deebo Samuel scores easiest TD of his career

Easy money.

The Arizona Cardinals struck first against the San Francisco 49ers with a James Conner touchdown run following an impressive 75-yard scoring drive to open the game on Sunday. Despite quickly trailing by seven, it didn’t take long for the 49ers to get on the board.

After putting together a long scoring drive of their own, Deebo Samuel walked into the end zone for an easy score against the Cardinals. Purdy found Samuel all alone for a 12-yard touchdown pass to even the game at 7-7 in the first quarter.

Behind Enemy Lines: 49ers on upset watch vs. Cardinals?

Get to know the Arizona Cardinals, which look different than the last time the 49ers saw them:

The 49ers and Cardinals on Sunday will meet for the second and final time of the 2023 season. San Francisco took home a 35-16 victory at Levi’s Stadium. That was a more maximized version of the 49ers than the one we’re likely to see Sunday, and a worse version of the Cardinals which now has quarterback Kyler Murray instead of QB Josh Dobbs who started in Week 4.

To get a gauge on the new-look Cardinals we touched base with our buddy Jess Root, the Cards Wire managing editor and asked him a few questions.

Here’s what’s happening in the desert:

49ers-Cardinals TV broadcast will be a little odd

The #49ers TV broadcast may look and sound a bit unusual.

There’ll be a strange quirk for attentive 49ers fans looking to watch their showdown with the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

San Francisco will face their NFC West rival at 1:05pm Pacific Time, but the game between the pair of NFC clubs will not be broadcast on FOX. For a long time NFC games were exclusively on FOX while the AFC lived on CBS. A new wrinkle in the NFL’s TV deals allows some flexibility among the conferences. Under the old system the visiting team would dictate where the game was broadcast.

Here’s a map of where the game will be broadcast, via 506 Sports. The 49ers and Cardinals game will show in the blue areas of the map below:

(via 506 Sports)

A 49ers-Cardinals game showing on CBS will certainly look and sound a little different than usual. The scorebug, graphics and music will all be different. So will the broadcasters with Ian Eagle and Charles Davis both on the call.

This will likely be the 49ers’ lone CBS game for the rest of the year with ABC and FOX slated to carry their next two contests. Their Week 18 matchup against the Rams is still TBD.

Studs and Duds from 49ers’ 35-16 divisional win over Cardinals in Week 4

Rounding up the studs and duds from the 49ers’ dominant divisional win over the Cardinals in Week 4.

With Christian McCaffrey in the backfield, the San Francisco 49ers cruised to another victory on Sunday with a fairly dominant performance against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4’s divisional contest.

While McCaffrey punched in four touchdowns against the Cardinals, Brock Purdy put together a nearly perfect performance through the air as the 49ers scored over 30 points again in their 35-16 win to move to 4-0 on the season.

Behind McCaffrey and Purdy, here’s a look at some of the other studs and duds from Sunday’s Week 4 contest in Santa Clara.

NFL Twitter reacts to Christian McCaffrey’s 4 TD performance vs. Cardinals

Following Christian McCaffrey’s four touchdown performance against the Cardinals, NFL Twitter exploded with reactions.

The Christian McCaffrey show showed no signs of slowing down in Week 4 against the Arizona Cardinals. After punching in an early touchdown in the first quarter for his thirteenth consecutive game with a score, McCaffrey returned to the end zone again, again and again on Sunday.

The former Stanford Cardinal standout was all over the field against Arizona. As the 49ers tallied 35 points on their way to their fourth consecutive win, McCaffrey tacked on four touchdowns against the Cardinals— yes, four.

McCaffrey put a smile on the face of his fantasy managers as he piled on in the boxscore while fueling Kyle Shanahan’s offense against Arizona. The 49ers’ rusher ran for 106 yards on 20 carries to go along with three touchdowns. McCaffrey added a team-high seven catches for 71 yards and a score through the air.

His performance against the Cardinals marked his first four-score game and it also tied him for the second-most in a single game in franchise history.

Following his four-touchdown day, the NFL community on Twitter exploded with reactions. Here’s a look at what fans and analysts had to say on Sunday afternoon.

Watch: 49ers’ Talanoa Hufanga and Cardinals’ James Conner get into scuffle after game

After the 49ers’ 35-16 win over the Cardinals, Talanoa Hufanga and James Conner weren’t done going back and forth following the final whistle.

After the San Francisco 49ers wrapped up the Arizona Cardinals to move to 4-0 on the season with a commanding 35-16 win in Week 4, there was still some action on the field following the final whistle.

49ers defensive back Talanoa Hufanga and Cardinals running back James Conner needed to be separated on the field after the game. Conner appeared to shove Hufanga in the head region. George Kittle and Cardinals offensive lineman Keith Ismael had to separate Conner and Hufanga as the back-and-forth got intense.

It’s still unclear on what happened between Hufanga and Conner for them to go back and forth.

The 49ers limited Conner to 52 yards on the ground on 11 carriers. Conner added one catch for four yards. Hufanga registered five tackles against the Cardinals on Sunday.

Notebook from 49ers’ commanding win over Cardinals in Week 4, 35-16

Flipping through the gameday notebook from the 49ers’ dominant win over the Cardinals, 35-16.

While there’s no doubt the Arizona Cardinals are tough behind Josh Dobbs and Jonathan Gannon, Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey were just too much to handle on Sunday afternoon in Santa Clara.

Although the Cardinals flirted with making the game tight, the 49ers handled business on their way to their fourth straight win of the season, 34-16. Purdy has now lead three straight games with 30 or more points on the scoreboard for the 49ers.

Purdy was nearly flawless on Sunday, only tossing one incompletion. Purdy threw for 283 yards on 20-of-21 passing with a touchdown through the air and a touchdown on the ground.

McCaffrey stole the show with four scores against the Cardinals. McCaffrey ran for 106 yards with three rushing touchdowns to go along with seven catches for 71 yards.

Brandon Aiyuk had a career day, catching six passes for a career-high 148 yards receiving.

With the 49ers 4-0, here’s a look into the notebook from Sunday’s performance against the Cardinals.

49ers new all-time leader in Monday Night Football wins

The #49ers and Steelers race for the most wins in Monday Night Football history continues, but now the 49ers have the lead.

The 49ers dropped the Cardinals on Monday night, and with their win vaulted past the Pittsburgh Steelers on the all-time Monday Night Football wins list.

San Francisco’s 38-10 romp over Arizona was Monday night win No. 52 for the red and gold. They entered the night tied with Pittsburgh at 51 MNF wins.

Dallas is third on the list with 49, followed by the Dolphins (43) and Raiders (42).

Pittsburgh will get a chance to catch the 49ers soon though. They’re slated for a game against the Colts on Monday Night Football in Week 12. That’ll be their only chance to catch San Francisco on the all-time MNF wins list this season.

Monday in Mexico City was the 49ers’ second MNF win of the season. They also knocked off the Rams in Week 4 to move into a tie with the Steelers.

If Pittsburgh loses in Week 12, the 49ers’ all-time lead is safe until at least next season. If the Steelers win, they’ll be back to deadlocked at 52 apiece.
