Prediction and betting odds for 49ers vs. Cardinals in Week 18

Analyzing Sunday’s 49ers vs. Cardinals game with odds and lines, predictions and best bets.

The San Francisco 49ers (6-10) head to State Farm Stadium to take on the Arizona Cardinals (7-9) to close their 2024 NFL season.

The 49ers will look to end the season on an uptick before heading into an offseason with plenty of important decisions to be made. Brock Purdy’s future with the 49ers and whether or not an extension gets ironed out will be one of the primary storylines surrounding San Francisco’s offseason.

Any final evaluations of Purdy won’t happen on Sunday. Purdy is sidelined with a right elbow injury and the 49ers will turn to Joshua Dobbs as its starting quarterback.

In the two team’s first meeting this season, San Francisco built a 23-10 halftime lead before watching Arizona quarterback Kyler Murray rally the Cardinals back in the second half en route to a 24-23 Arizona victory.

As kickoff approaches, here’s a look at the betting odds, including the point spread, money line figures and the over-under point total. Plus, a prediction on how this one plays out.

49ers vs. Cardinals prediction, pick

Prediction: Arizona 27, San Francisco 20

Arizona has starting quarterback Kyler Murray as a go, while San Francisco will be without Brock Purdy. That’s enough to lean the Cardinals’ direction in this regular season finale.

Consider both Kyler Murray (+110) and 49ers running back Isaac Guerendo (+150) as anytime touchdown scorers. With several key pass-catchers potentially out of the equation and 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy as well, if San Francisco finds offensive success, there’s a good chance it’s Guerendo finding his way into the end zone.

49ers trail only 1 team in updated Super Bowl odds

The 49ers are favorites to return to the Super Bowl, but they’re not favored to win it.

The 49ers have perhaps the best roster in the NFL. That still isn’t enough to get them to the top of the early Super Bowl odds from BetMGM.

San Francisco is the favorite to make the Super Bowl out of the NFC, but they trail the Kansas City Chiefs as the favorite to win the whole thing.

Here’s what the updated odds look like with last season’s Super Bowl participants far outpacing the field. Via BetMGM:

Chiefs: +600
49ers: +650
Ravens: +1000
Lions: +1200
Bills: +1400
Bengals: +1400
Eagles: +1400

While the 49ers may have an overall better roster than Kansas City, it’s hard to fault any book that puts the Chiefs over San Francisco since the 49ers have yet to beat them in the regular season or postseason since Kyle Shanahan took over as the 49ers head coach. Kansas City also won the Super Bowl last season and improved its roster at its weakest position — wide receiver.

Alas, the 49ers will enter 2024 with a better roster again, but they’ll be trying to overcome the dreaded Super Bowl hangover while simultaneously trying to figure out how to knock off Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.

The key for San Francisco will be staying up near the top of these odds even as the season ebbs and flows. A substantial dip would signal some kind of catastrophe. As long as they’re winning and healthy, they’ll be among the favorites to hoist a Lombardi Trophy. They just need to get over the hump.

Seahawks open as double-digit underdogs vs. 49ers for wild card game

Their reward is facing the toughest defense to come along in several years.

The Seahawks finished their season strong and got a little bit lucky last night, clinching a playoff berth thanks to the Lions defying recent history and upsetting the Packers in Green Bay. Thanks to that and their own win over the Rams Seattle has snuck into the playoffs, clinching the NFC’s last seed.

Their reward is facing the toughest defense to come along in several years – one that has already embarrassed them twice this season. On Saturday afternoon, the Seahawks will travel to Santa Clara and face the freight train 49ers, who have won 10 straight games going into the postseason.

According to USA TODAY Sports Data, the Niners are favored by 10 points. The over/under is set at 43.5 points and the money line is San Francisco -550 and Seattle +425.

The NFL tends to schedule their least-compelling playoff matchup in the Saturday afternoon timeslot, usually reserved for whoever crawls out of the AFC South. That the Seahawks are competing in that spot is a reflection on what the league thinks of their chances.

Kickoff is 1:30 p.m. Pacific Time.
