49ers avoid further catastrophe on starting OL for Week 17 vs. Lions

A small sigh of relief on the offensive line for the 49ers.

The San Francisco 49ers avoided an even steeper catastrophe on their offensive line Monday night.

Starting offensive lineman Colton McKivitz is officially active for the 49ers after being listed as ‘questionable’ on the Week 17 injury report because of a knee injury that cropped up during the week of practice. He was a non-participant in the final two sessions of the week, lending some concern that his injury may force him out of the starting lineup for the 49ers’ final home game of the 2024 campaign.

Starting left tackle Trent Williams (ankle) and starting left guard Aaron Banks (knee) are already on IR. Backup left tackle Jaylon Moore (quad) is also on IR, and third-string left tackle Spencer Burford is inactive because of a calf injury he sustained in Week 16. That means the 49ers are down to their fourth-string left tackle, so needing to also fill in for McKivitz would have only exacerbated an already massive issue for San Francisco.

Here are the other inactives for Week 17:

QB Brandon Allen (QB3)
CB Charvarius Ward (personal)
LB Dre Greenlaw (calf)
OL Spencer Burford (calf)
DL Robert Beal Jr. (ankle)
DL Khalil Davis
RB Israel Abanikanda

Safety Ji’Ayir Brown and linebacker Tatum Bethune are both active after being listed as questionable on the injury report. Bethune has been out since Week 12 with a knee injury. He was activated off IR before Monday’s game. Brown was working through an ankle injury.

49ers injury news: QB Brock Purdy officially active vs. Bills

Brock Purdy is officially back.

The San Francisco 49ers are extremely banged up going into their Week 13 showdown with the Buffalo Bills.

However, they will at least have starting quarterback Brock Purdy this week after he missed Week 12 with a shoulder injury. He was limited for Wednesday and Thursday’s practices before getting a full participation in Friday.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan indicated Friday he expected Purdy to play, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Saturday that Purdy made it through Saturday without any setbacks and would suit up against the Bills.

The 49ers made that official Sunday afternoon when Purdy was not among their list of inactive players.

Here’s who won’t suit up for San Francisco:

QB Brandon Allen (Emergency QB)
DE Nick Bosa (hip, oblique)
OT Trent Williams (ankle)
CB Deommodore Lenoir (knee)
LG Aaron Banks (concussion)
DT Jordan Elliott (concussion)
LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (knee)

Interestingly, Josh Dobbs is the backup signal caller for the first time with Purdy starting this season. That may be an indicator of some news things the 49ers can do with their run game if they elect to roll a more mobile QB on the field.

Cornerback Renardo Green (neck), defensive tackle Kevin Givens (groin) and wide receiver Chris Conley (knee) are all active after being listed as questionable.

49ers injury update: Charvarius Ward inactive vs. Seahawks

Here’s who’s not suiting up for the 49ers against the Seahawks:

The San Francisco 49ers will have to navigate a huge game against the Seattle Seahawks without one of their top two cornerbacks.

CB Charvarius Ward was listed as inactive ahead of Thursday night’s game at Lumen Field after going through a pregame workout on-field to test his bruised knee. Ward was hurt in the 49ers’ Week 5 loss to the Arizona Cardinals and finished the week as a limited participant in the team’s walkthrough. He was officially listed as questionable before being ruled out 90 minutes before Thursday’s game.

Without Ward, the 49ers are likely to go with rookie CB Renardo Green as the nickel corner with CBs Deommodore Lenoir and Isaac Yiadom manning the two starting outside spots.

Here’s who won’t suit up for San Francisco:

QB Josh Dobbs (QB3)
CB Charvarius Ward (knee)

K Jake Moody (ankle)
LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (calf)
DT Jordan Elliott (knee)
OL Ben Bartch
TE Brayden Willis

Conley is not among the inactives and will play. He was questionable on a short week and missed Week 5 with an oblique issue he sustained back in Week 4. He missed Monday’s practice per the projected report, and was limited Tuesday and Wednesday.

Willis was promoted to the active roster when Talanoa Hufanga was placed on IR.

Kickoff between the 49ers and Seahawks is slated for 5:15pm Pacific Time.

49ers injury updates: Nick Bosa, Charvarius Ward IN vs. Rams

Some good injury news for the #49ers ahead of Week 3.

The San Francisco 49ers can breathe a small sigh of relief heading into their Week 3 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

Both defensive end Nick Bosa and cornerback Charvarius Ward are active. They were listed as questionable on the official injury report. Bosa is dealing with a rib injury he suffered in practice. He was limited Thursday and Friday.

Ward has knee and hamstring soreness that kept him out of Thursday’s practice. He was back in limited fashion Friday.

That All-Pro duo should be helpful for San Francisco against a beat up Rams squad without its top two receivers and their third different starting offensive line of the season.

Here’s who won’t suit up for the 49ers:

QB Josh Dobbs (Third QB)
WR Deebo Samuel (calf)
TE George Kittle (hamstring)
CB Darrell Luter Jr.
LB Tatum Bethune
OL Ben Bartch

Strong safety Talanoa Hufanga is officially active as expected. He was a full go in practice all week and not listed on the injury report.

The 49ers and Rams kick off at 1:25pm Pacific Time at SoFi Stadium.

No surprises among 49ers Week 2 inactives

Good news: No surprises on the 49ers’ Week 2 inactives.

There were no surprises when the San Francisco 49ers announced their inactives for Week 2 against the Minnesota Vikings.

With running back Christian McCaffrey ruled out and only one player listed as questionable there wasn’t much mystery as to who wouldn’t play for the 49ers.

Here’s who the club listed as inactive:

QB Josh Dobbs
SS Talanoa Hufanga (knee)
CB Darrell Luter Jr.
OL Ben Bartch
LB Dee Winters (ankle)

Winters was officially questionable and will not suit up for the second consecutive week. He returned to practice in Week 2 which bodes well for his chances to play in Week 3.

Hufanga also continued his ramp up, but never had a full practice and was officially doubtful on the injury report.

The 49ers’ list of inactives is a little light this week because they’re short a player on their roster. They put McCaffrey on IR on Saturday, but didn’t replace his spot on the active roster just yet. Safety Tracy Walker was the club’s only practice squad elevation as well, so they needed to keep only five players down instead of the typical six.

Kickoff in Minnesota is slated for 10:00am Pacific Time from US Bank Stadium.

49ers inactives: Aaron Banks, Ambry Thomas both in vs. Commanders

All 4 #49ers who were questionable entering Sunday will suit up vs. the Commanders:

Two key players who were questionable for the 49ers ahead of their Week 17 matchup vs. the Commanders will be suiting up and available for San Francisco.

Offensive lineman Aaron Banks and cornerback Ambry Thomas are both active after missing practice time throughout the week. Banks hurt a toe vs. the Ravens and Thomas was working through knee and hand issues.

Here’s who won’t be active for the 49ers:

Brandon Allen (3rd QB)
DL Arik Armstead (knee, foot)
WR Jauan Jennings (concussion)
S Ji’Ayir Brown (knee)
OL Jaylon Moore (concussion)
TE Ross Dwelley (ankle)
LB Jalen Graham

Linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles and running back Jordan Mason are also active after being listed as questionable due to illness.

49ers inactives: Arik Armstead good to go vs. Eagles

Arik Armstead is ACTIVE for the #49ers vs. the Eagles.

The 49ers will have their full starting defensive line for their NFC championship game rematch vs. the Eagles. Defensive lineman Arik Armstead, who was listed as questionable with a foot injury, will suit up Sunday after not being listed among the team’s inactives in Philadelphia.

Here’s who won’t play for the 49ers:

QB Brandon Allen (QB3)
WR Ray-Ray McCloud (rib)
LB Jalen Graham
RB Tyrion Davis-Price
DL Robert Beal Jr.
TE Brayden Willis
OL Ben Bartch

Running back Jordan Mason was questionable with a hamstring injury and was not among the inactives so he’ll play as well.

McCloud’s absence is a big one. He’s held down the kick and punt return jobs all season. Those spots may now go to rookie WR Ronnie Bell.

49ers LT Trent Williams, DT Javon Hargrave both active vs. Jaguars

The 49ers are back, and so are Trent Williams, Deebo Samuel and Javon Hargrave.

The 49ers will have their health mostly intact when they take on the Jaguars on Sunday. Left tackle Trent Williams and defensive tackle Javon Hargrave are both active after being listed as questionable on the Week 10 injury report.

Wide receiver Deebo Samuel will also return, although he was not on the injury report and was expected to play.

Here’s who is not active for San Francisco:

QB Brandon Allen (third QB)
TE Brayden Willis
RB Ty Davis-Price
LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (ankle)
LB Jalen Graham
LG Aaron Banks (toe)
DT Kalia Davis

There aren’t any real surprises on the list of inactives. Banks is out at least a couple more weeks with a toe injury he sustained in Week 8. He was ruled out Friday. Flannigan-Fowles was listed as questionable with an ankle injury and he will not play. Practice squad LB Curtis Robinson is up and will take over the special teams vacancy.

The Seahawks and the 49ers are preparing to face off at Levi’s Stadium in an hour and a half. Seattle will be short a few guys on the back end of their defense and will look to rookie cornerback Coby Bryant to make his first NFL start in the slot. However, the Seahawks defense gets a lucky break as the 49ers will be playing without their star tight end George Kittle due to a groin injury.
