Wisconsin OL earns another 2024 preseason True Freshman All-American honor

Wisconsin offensive lineman Kevin Heywood pocketed another preseason honor on Tuesday.

Heywood joined offensive linemen Jordan Seaton (Colorado), Josiah Thompson (South Carolina), Cooper Cousins (Penn State) and Guerby Lambert (Notre Dame) on 247Sports’ 2024 Preseason True Freshman All-America team.

The honor arrives a day following his nomination for On3’s 2024 Preseason True Freshman All-American Team. The other discrepancy with that offensive line revolved around the Fighting Irish tackles: Anthonie Knapp replaced Lambert on On3’s rendition of the true freshman squad.

Here’s what 247Sports national college football writer Chris Hummer said the 6-foot-8, 312-pound freshman “has impressed since the moment he walked on campus and is safely on the two-deep. Expect Heywood to get some run this year as he positions himself as a tackle of the future for the Badgers.”

Prior to UW’s 2024 campaign, Heywood took first-team snaps after starting right tackle Riley Mahlman suffered an undisclosed injury. The incoming Badger turned heads throughout camp and seems to have earned the No. 2 spot on Wisconsin’s left tackle depth chart this fall.

Regardless of the hierarchy this year, Heywood will serve as an invaluable resource for Wisconsin during his sophomore, junior and senior seasons before he makes a potential jump to the NFL.
