Broncos won’t host any of the next four Super Bowls (but keep an eye on 2032)

The Broncos won’t host the Super Bowl in 2028 (or the three years before then), but if the team builds a new stadium, who knows?

The Denver Broncos won’t host the Super Bowl in 2028 (or any of the three championship games before then).

The NFL had previously announced the Super Bowl sites for 2025 (New Orleans), 2026 (Santa Clara) and 2027 (Inglewood). Today, the league announced that the 2028 Super Bowl (LXII) will be held in Atlanta at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Because the Broncos play in an outdoor stadium, they probably won’t be seriously considered to host a February Super Bowl anytime soon.

The team’s current lease at Empower Field at Mile High runs through the 2031 season and there has been heavy speculation that Denver’s ownership group will want to eventually build a mega stadium in the coming years.

If the Broncos do build a beautiful new stadium, they would instantly become a top contender to host a future Super Bowl, especially if there’s a roof (which is a hot topic in Broncos Country).

Denver is also interested in hosting a future NFL draft, but the city won’t host in 2025 (Green Bay) or 2026 (Pittsburgh). The next possible draft that could be held in Colorado would be in 2027, two years before the next available Super Bowl.

Unless the Broncos end their lease early, the team seems unlikely to host a Super Bowl before 2032 at the earliest. So potentially hosting a Super Bowl is still quite a few years away from being realistic, but it’s a topic worth monitoring going forward as stadium talks begin to heat up in Denver.

Damani Leech says Broncos aren’t bidding to host the NFL draft

Contrary to a recent report, Broncos president Damani Leech says the team is not bidding to host the NFL draft.

Two years ago, the Denver Business Journal reported that the Denver Broncos planned to bid to host an upcoming NFL draft.

This spring, Denver Mayor Mike Johnston traveled to Michigan to discuss the logistics of bidding for a draft with Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan.

Earlier this month, The Athletic‘s Joe Person reported that Pittsburgh and Denver were “in the running” to host the 2026 and 2027 drafts (Pittsburgh has since been awarded the 2026 draft).

Less than a week after Person’s update, Eric Fisher of Front Office Sports reported that the Broncos “have submitted a bid” to host in 2027. Charlotte is also interested, but the Panthers did not submit a bid, according to Fisher.

All of the above reporting suggests that Denver and the Broncos are very interested in hosting a future draft, but contrary to Fisher’s report, team president Damani Leech recently told The Denver Post‘s Parker Gabriel that the club has not submitted a bid to host.

“There’s been no official submission on our behalf for hosting the draft,” Leech said. “Now, obviously it’s a major NFL tentpole event and it’s really, really exciting, but it’s not something that we’re currently working on.”

It’s an interesting comment from Leech because it suggests that either previous reports were wildly inaccurate or the Broncos were once actively interested in hosting but are no longer actively pursuing it.

It’s still possible that Denver could host an NFL draft someday in the future, but Leech says there are no immediate plans to host the event.

Steelers could hear decision on 2026 NFL draft this week

Pittsburgh is a finalist for the 2026 NFL draft.

This week, the NFL owner meetings are taking place in Nashville and we could get an announcement from the meetings about host cities for the 2026 and 2027 NFL drafts. The 2025 NFL draft has already been awarded to Green Bay.

The two teams sorting out those 2026 and 2027 spots but all reports are Pittsburgh and Denver. The Pittsburgh Steelers are working to prepare as if they will be awarded the 2026 draft although the Broncos are still in the running. The most likely scenario is Denver gets 2027 and the Steelers get 2026.

New York City hosted the draft from 1965 to 2014. Here is how it broke down by city once the NFL started moving the event around.

2015 – Chicago

2016 – Chicago

2017 – Philadelphia

2018 – Arlington

2019 – Nashville

2020 – Virtual

2021 – Cleveland

2022 – Las Vegas

2023 – Kansas City

2024 – Detroit

The NFL draft continues to grow in popularity and gets bigger every year. The best decision the NFL ever made was to open up the opportunity for other NFL cities to host the event.

Pittsburgh and Denver finalists to host 2026 and 2027 NFL drafts

Steelers officially put in bid to host NFL draft in 2026 or 2027

The city of Pittsburgh could be hosting the NFL draft in either 2026 or 2027.

On Friday, the Steelers announced they had officially submitted a bid for Pittsburgh to host either the 2026 or 2027 NFL draft. After it was conducted in New York City for several decades, the draft has been held in seven different cities since 2015.

The host cities of the NFL draft from 2015 on are as follows:

2015: Chicago

2016: Chicago

2017: Philadelphia

2018: Arlington, Texas

2019: Nashville, Tennessee

2020: No host city (draft conducted virtually because of COVID-19 pandemic)

2021: Cleveland

2022: Las Vegas

2023: Kansas City, Missouri

The 2024 NFL draft will be held in Detroit, and the 2025 draft has been awarded to Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Hosting a future NFL draft still in play for the Broncos

The Broncos won’t host the NFL draft in 2024 (Detroit) or 2025 (Green Bay), but 2026 and 2027 remain on the table.

It won’t be within the next two years, but hosting a future NFL draft remains a possibility for the city of Denver and the Broncos.

The NFL awarded the 2025 NFL draft to Green Bay this week after previously designating Detroit as the host city for the 2024 NFL draft. Perhaps the league will pick Denver for 2026 or 2027.

Last summer, news broke that Denver plans to bid for a future draft sometime between 2025 and 2027. It’s easy to see why Denver wants to host given that the 2023 draft generated an estimated $125 million in economic impact for Kansas City.

This year’s draft drew more than 312,000 fans, according to the Chiefs.

The Broncos will undoubtedly want to host a future Super Bowl as well if they build a brand-new super stadium with a retractable roof. Such a scenario would likely be a decade or more down the road, though. The draft could arrive within the next three years if the city wins a bid.

Seattle Seahawks sign GM John Schneider to contract extension

The Seahawks have signed executive VP/GM John Schneider to a contract extension keeping him in Seattle through the 2027 NFL draft.

Seahawks executive vice president/general manager John Schneider is staying in Seattle after all. Rumors had recently swirled that the Detroit Lions would be making a push to lure Schneider away from the Emerald City.

On Tuesday, however, Seattle announced that the Seahawks have signed Schneider to a contract extension through the 2027 NFL draft. Schneider is currently in his 11th season with Seattle.

“I am pleased to announce that we have extended the contract of general manager John Schneider through the 2027 draft,” Seahawks chair Jody Allen said via the press release. “For the last decade, John and head coach Pete Carroll have formed a tremendous partnership and the Seahawks have established a successful, unique, and truly winning culture respected throughout sports. I know we are all excited to see that continue.”

Coach Pete Carroll also signed a contract extension earlier this year and will remain in Seattle through the 2025 season.
