Pittsburgh and Denver finalists to host 2026 and 2027 NFL drafts

We should know the hosts of the 2026 and 2027 NFL drafts this week.

This week, the NFL owner meetings are taking place in Nashville and we could get an announcement from the meetings about host cities for the 2026 and 2027 NFL drafts. The 2025 NFL draft has already been awarded to Green Bay.

The two teams sorting out those 2026 and 2027 spots but all reports are Pittsburgh and Denver. The Pittsburgh Steelers are working to prepare as if they will be awarded the 2026 draft although the Broncos are still in the running. The most likely scenario is Denver gets 2027.

New York City hosted the draft from 1965 to 2014. Here is how it broke by city once the NFL started moving the event around.

2015 – Chicago

2016 – Chicago

2017 – Philadelphia

2018 – Arlington

2019 – Nashville

2020 – Virtual

2021 – Cleveland

2022 – Las Vegas

2023 – Kansas City

2024 – Detroit

The NFL draft continues to grow in popularity and gets bigger every year. The best decision the NFL ever made was to open up the opportunity for other NFL cities to host the event.

2015: Chicago

Pittsburgh express official interest in hosting future NFL draft

The Steelers and the city of Pittsburgh would like to host the 2026 or 2027 NFL draft.

Interest in the NFL draft has grown significantly since the league moved to a rotating schedule of locations for the host city. The latest city to show an interest is Pittsburgh, according to the team and Steelers beat writer Gerry Dulac.

The Steelers would like to host either the 2026 or 2027 NFL draft. The 2024 NFL draft is scheduled for Detroit and the 2025 NFL draft will be held in Green Bay.

Pittsburgh released the following statement:

“We believe our city will be an excellent host to showcase the great history that connects Western Pennsylvania to the early roots of professional football and the evolution of the game through the decades,” Lauten said in a statement. “The NFL draft will draw hundreds of thousands of fans and out-of-town visitors, and we look forward to working with local and state officials and community leaders to ensure we craft a successful bid to host the 2026 or 2027 NFL draft.”

New York City was the host of the NFL draft from 1965-2014. It has changed host cities every year since with the 2023 NFL draft being held in Kansas City.

Steelers put out cryptic message on social media

What could Tuesday’s big Steelers announcement be?

It isn’t often that the Pittsburgh Steelers are mysterious, much less cryptic. So when they are, it certainly catches our attention. On Monday, the Steelers social media team shared the image below with a message about a special announcement coming on Tuesday.

This post immediately brought out speculation. Most of it centered on the firing of offensive coordinator Matt Canada and the hiring of former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger as his replacement. Neither of these seems plausible, and we have some ideas about what the message might mean.

First and foremost, we are hoping this is the announcement that the 2026 NFL draft will be in Pittsburgh. Days ago, word came out that Pittsburgh was in the running, and letting the best football city in the country host the NFL draft makes perfect sense.

In a slightly less climactic announcement, this could be connected to a throwback uniform announcement. Perhaps the return of the bumblebees, or how about those alternates from the 2011 season with the yellow helmets?

Hosting a future NFL draft still in play for the Broncos

The Broncos won’t host the NFL draft in 2024 (Detroit) or 2025 (Green Bay), but 2026 and 2027 remain on the table.

It won’t be within the next two years, but hosting a future NFL draft remains a possibility for the city of Denver and the Broncos.

The NFL awarded the 2025 NFL draft to Green Bay this week after previously designating Detroit as the host city for the 2024 NFL draft. Perhaps the league will pick Denver for 2026 or 2027.

Last summer, news broke that Denver plans to bid for a future draft sometime between 2025 and 2027. It’s easy to see why Denver wants to host given that the 2023 draft generated an estimated $125 million in economic impact for Kansas City.

This year’s draft drew more than 312,000 fans, according to the Chiefs.

The Broncos will undoubtedly want to host a future Super Bowl as well if they build a brand-new super stadium with a retractable roof. Such a scenario would likely be a decade or more down the road, though. The draft could arrive within the next three years if the city wins a bid.

Report: Vikings hoping to have 2025 or 2026 NFL draft in Twin Cities

Do you want the Minnesota Vikings to host the NFL draft in 2025 or 2026?

Minnesota wants to host the 2025 or 2026 NFL draft, according to a report.

Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press reported that the Vikings are opting for one of those years to host the event.  This would mark the first time that the Twin Cities has hosted the draft.

Only 10 cities have hosted the NFL draft. New York City and Chicago have hosted the draft the most times. Dallas, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington D.C., Nashville and Cleveland have also hosted the event.

Recently, the draft has been affected by the coronavirus pandemic. In 2020, all pick selections were via video conference. Las Vegas was originally supposed to host the 2020 draft, but the league announced that festivities would be canceled due to the pandemic. Las Vegas will now host the event in 2022.

In 2021, teams had less scouting available for small-school prospects, due to cut backs on travel and less small schools having pro days amid the pandemic.

We’ll see what happens in 2025 and 2026, and whether Minnesota will be hosting one of the biggest events of the NFL offseason.
