Steelers put out cryptic message on social media

What could Tuesday’s big Steelers announcement be?

It isn’t often that the Pittsburgh Steelers are mysterious, much less cryptic. So when they are, it certainly catches our attention. On Monday, the Steelers social media team shared the image below with a message about a special announcement coming on Tuesday.

This post immediately brought out speculation. Most of it centered on the firing of offensive coordinator Matt Canada and the hiring of former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger as his replacement. Neither of these seems plausible, and we have some ideas about what the message might mean.

First and foremost, we are hoping this is the announcement that the 2026 NFL draft will be in Pittsburgh. Days ago, word came out that Pittsburgh was in the running, and letting the best football city in the country host the NFL draft makes perfect sense.

In a slightly less climactic announcement, this could be connected to a throwback uniform announcement. Perhaps the return of the bumblebees, or how about those alternates from the 2011 season with the yellow helmets?

Hosting a future NFL draft still in play for the Broncos

The Broncos won’t host the NFL draft in 2024 (Detroit) or 2025 (Green Bay), but 2026 and 2027 remain on the table.

It won’t be within the next two years, but hosting a future NFL draft remains a possibility for the city of Denver and the Broncos.

The NFL awarded the 2025 NFL draft to Green Bay this week after previously designating Detroit as the host city for the 2024 NFL draft. Perhaps the league will pick Denver for 2026 or 2027.

Last summer, news broke that Denver plans to bid for a future draft sometime between 2025 and 2027. It’s easy to see why Denver wants to host given that the 2023 draft generated an estimated $125 million in economic impact for Kansas City.

This year’s draft drew more than 312,000 fans, according to the Chiefs.

The Broncos will undoubtedly want to host a future Super Bowl as well if they build a brand-new super stadium with a retractable roof. Such a scenario would likely be a decade or more down the road, though. The draft could arrive within the next three years if the city wins a bid.

Report: Vikings hoping to have 2025 or 2026 NFL draft in Twin Cities

Do you want the Minnesota Vikings to host the NFL draft in 2025 or 2026?

Minnesota wants to host the 2025 or 2026 NFL draft, according to a report.

Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press reported that the Vikings are opting for one of those years to host the event.  This would mark the first time that the Twin Cities has hosted the draft.

Only 10 cities have hosted the NFL draft. New York City and Chicago have hosted the draft the most times. Dallas, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington D.C., Nashville and Cleveland have also hosted the event.

Recently, the draft has been affected by the coronavirus pandemic. In 2020, all pick selections were via video conference. Las Vegas was originally supposed to host the 2020 draft, but the league announced that festivities would be canceled due to the pandemic. Las Vegas will now host the event in 2022.

In 2021, teams had less scouting available for small-school prospects, due to cut backs on travel and less small schools having pro days amid the pandemic.

We’ll see what happens in 2025 and 2026, and whether Minnesota will be hosting one of the biggest events of the NFL offseason.
