On Thursday, the Pittsburgh Steelers made a huge announcement in relation to the 2026 NFL draft. The team announced the dates for the draft with Pittsburgh as the host city.
From 1965-2014 the draft was held in New York City. After that, the draft was held for two straight years in Chicago before starting their annual rotation of cities. Here’s the full list of host cities for the NFL draft going back to 1936.
The Oregon Ducks have a handful of players named among the top 2026 NFL Draft prospects at their respective positions.
We are still a few months away from the 2025 NFL Draft taking place, and the pre-draft process is just getting started as mocks continue to be churned out every week.
This year there are a handful of Oregon Ducks who are projected to go early in the draft, headlined by offensive tackle Josh Conerly Jr. and defensive tackle Derrick Harmon. Oregon could see as many as 10 or more players selected in the draft in April.
While that is certainly exciting, it doesn’t need to stop us from looking ahead. It’s never too early to look into the future and try to project what might be in store down the road.
This week, ESPN released its list of the projected top players at each position for the 2026 draft class, and it’s safe to say that Oregon was heavily featured. The Ducks had four players listed in the top three for their respective positions, and there’s a good chance that the number will be even higher by next spring.
ESPN’s Take: “Hughes dominated in two seasons at Tulane, compiling a combined 2,779 yards and 22 touchdowns. The 5-11, 210-pounder ran for 1,401 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2024 and will get a chance to star on a bigger stage at Oregon. Hughes’ production and excellent pop and power make him an RB1 candidate in 2026.”
Our Take: Hughes comes to Oregon as the No. 1 RB in the transfer portal this offseason, and should step in for Jordan James as the RB1 alongside Noah Whittington, assuming the veteran returns for one more year. Hughes has the size and the playmaking ability to be a dynamic player in Eugene.
WR Evan Stewart
ESPN’s Take: “Stewart was considered a top-50 prospect in the 2025 draft, but he decided to return to Oregon. The former five-star recruit is a speedster at 6-foot, 175 pounds, and was productive in 2024, with 48 receptions for 613 yards and five touchdowns. He has a knack for spectacular catches and has a chance to thrive as the Ducks’ No. 1 receiver.”
Our Take: Evan Stewart could have gone to the NFL this year, but he returns for one more season to take over as the WR1 with Tez Johnson gone. His deep-ball playmaking ability should be a perfect fit alongside Dante Moore, who has a rocket of an arm and is projected to sling it this season.

ESPN’s Take: “Uiagalelei broke out in 2024, as his 10.5 sacks put him on NFL scouts’ radar. He has pro size at 6-5 and 270 pounds and lines up as a true 4-3 defensive end for Oregon, which is where he would fit in the NFL. He is the total package as far as strength, speed and production.”
Our Take: It’s not hard to argue that going into the 2025 season, Matayo Uiagalelei is the single best player on Oregon’s roster, and there is a real hope that he establishes himself as a potential top-10 pick in next year’s draft after a breakout season in 2024.
S Dillon Thieneman

ESPN’s Take: “Thieneman is an impact safety who had six interceptions as a freshman at Purdue in 2023. Quarterbacks stayed away from him this past season, but the 6-foot, 207-pound Thieneman registered 104 tackles for the Boilermakers before transferring to Oregon. While Downs seems set as the top safety in the class, Thieneman’s tape projects him as a solid Round 1 option.”
Our Take: The Ducks added a handful of really talented players from the portal this offseason, but few are expected to be as impactful as Dillon Thieneman, the No. 1 safety available this year. He comes in with a huge opportunity to take over in the secondary and be a difference-maker for this hopeful championship contender.
Sixth-round pick via Buccaneers- Back in March, the Lions traded away their 2025 sixth-round pick for Buccaneers cornerback and Super Bowl champion Carlton Davis. Outside of Davis, Detroit received a 2024 sixth-round pick and a 2025 sixth-round pick.
Seventh-Round pick via Cowboys- The Lions retained the pick after trading up for Terrion Arnold in the 2024 draft. The Cowboys traded the 24th overall pick and a 2025 seventh-round pick for Detroit’s 29th and 73rd overall picks.
Picks Traded away
Third-round pick- In another trade-up situation, the Lions gave away their third-round pick to the Jets to draft offensive tackle, Giovanni Manu.
Fourth-round pick from Eagles- Detroit traded their fourth-round pick to the Eagles to move up to draft safety/running back Sione Vaki.
Fifth-round pick- Just traded to the Browns for edge rusher Za’Darius Smith.
Sixth-round pick- During last year’s trade deadline, the Lions traded their sixth-round pick to the Cleveland Browns for wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones.
Detroit 2026 Picks
Retained Lions Picks:
First round pick
Second round pick
Third round pick
Fourth round pick
Fifth round pick
Seventh round pick
Picks Acquired Through Trades:
Seventh-Round Pick- Traded by Browns for Za’Darius Smith.
Picks Traded Away:
Sixth-round pick- Traded to the Browns for Za’Darius Smith.
It has been an exciting season so far for Detroit, but the Lions also have to be excited about the possibility of new superstars wearing blue and gray in the future.
The New York Giants have cashed in on their trade of Jordan Phillips to the Dallas Cowboys as the 2026 pick-swap becomes official.
On August 15, the New York Giants traded defensive lineman Jordan Phillips to the Dallas Cowboys for a swap of late-round 2026 draft picks.
The condition was if Phillips was active for the Cowboys for two games, the Giants would get the Cowboys’ 2026 sixth-rounder in exchange for their 2026 seventh-round pick.
That deal became official last week when Phillips was active for the Cowboys in their home loss to the New Orleans Saints.
It happened just in time for the Giants as Phillips injured his wrist in the game and was placed on injured reserve (IR) by Dallas on Wednesday.
Phillips consequently told reporters nothing was wrong with his wrist, but he would go on IR as planned. It will not affect the trade.
The Giants signed the 31-year-old Phillips in April to a free agent deal but they had a glut of healthy players along the defensive line and Phillips became expendable.
Green Bay (2025) and Pittsburgh (2026) will host the next two NFL drafts. Denver could be a candidate to host in 2027.
Denver mayor Mike Johnston traveled to Michigan in April to meet with the NFL’s draft committee and Detroit mayor Mike Duggan as he continues to push for a future NFL draft to be held in Colorado.
The Broncos (and the city of Denver) will have to wait at least two more years before getting an opportunity to host a draft. The 2025 draft was previously awarded to Green Bay and yesterday, the NFL announced that Pittsburgh will host the 2026 draft.
Johnston and the Broncos could now turn their attention toward potentially hosting the NFL draft in 2027. More than 700,000 fans attended this year’s NFL draft in Detroit, setting a new attendance record for the three-day event.
Denver has not yet traded any of its 2027 draft picks, but that could obviously change over the next three years. The Broncos made seven picks in this year’s draft, landing quarterback Bo Nix in the first round.
The host city for the 2025 draft was previously announced as Green Bay, Wisconsin. While that’s not a far trip from Buffalo, Pittsburgh is the closest NFL city, meaning there will be a good chance for some of Bills Mafia to make the trip two years from now.
Other sites that have hosted or will host the draft since New York City last hosted it in 2014:

This week, the NFL owner meetings are taking place in Nashville and we could get an announcement from the meetings about host cities for the 2026 and 2027 NFL drafts. The 2025 NFL draft has already been awarded to Green Bay.
The two teams sorting out those 2026 and 2027 spots but all reports are Pittsburgh and Denver. The Pittsburgh Steelers are working to prepare as if they will be awarded the 2026 draft although the Broncos are still in the running. The most likely scenario is Denver gets 2027 and the Steelers get 2026.
New York City hosted the draft from 1965 to 2014. Here is how it broke down by city once the NFL started moving the event around.
2015 – Chicago
2016 – Chicago
2017 – Philadelphia
2018 – Arlington
2019 – Nashville
2020 – Virtual
2021 – Cleveland
2022 – Las Vegas
2023 – Kansas City
2024 – Detroit
The NFL draft continues to grow in popularity and gets bigger every year. The best decision the NFL ever made was to open up the opportunity for other NFL cities to host the event.
