2025 4-Star RB and Texas A&M recruiting target has committed to SEC rival

On Saturday afternoon, 2025 4-star running back Akylin Dear surprisingly announced his commitment to Ole Miss.

Well, that was quick. Just a day after it was announced that 2025 4-star running back Akylin Dear is scheduled to visit Texas A&M in June, the Mississippi native has committed to Ole Miss as of Saturday afternoon.

Does this impact the Aggies’ chances? Less than you may think, as most early commitments are usually pending until the final months, giving Mike Elko and his staff plenty of opportunity to make their pitch, starting this summer.

Dear’s hard-nosed running style, paired with his impressive speed and cutting ability, are just some of the many reasons why he’s one of the top prospects in the country. Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin knows that keeping him in-state is a must.

Listed at 6-1 and just over 200 pounds, Dear was lights out during his 2023 junior season at Quitman HS, the focal point on offense, accumulating 2,016 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns on the year, including three touchdown passes.

According to 247Sports Composite, Dear is currently positioned as the 32nd-ranked prospect in the 2025 cycle, the 2nd-ranked running back, and the 2nd-ranked prospect in Mississippi.
