Cowboys 2025 NFL Trade Deadline Tracker, Rumor Mill: WR Jonathan Mingo incoming

A one-stop shop of any trade rumors or actual moves surrounding the Dallas Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys aren’t yet out of it, but they certainly need a doctor to report to the facility as soon as possible. Sitting at 3-5, the Cowboys are missing a ton of star power which in all honestly wasn’t helping them much when they were a more healthy team.

The club has been without All-Pro cornerback DaRon Bland all season, then lost DeMarcus Lawrence, Brandin Cooks and most importantly Micah Parsons in Week 4. Rookie DE Marshawn Kneeland followed in Week 5 and now the team has lost QB Dak Prescott to a serious hamstring injury. So while it’s not likely the team can find help from the outside to right the ship, that doesn’t mean the carnival barkers Jerry and Stephen Jones won’t look to acquire help on the trade front.

Even though it would fly in the face of traditional line of thinking, a trade acquisition could make sense. Grabbing a player who has multiple years remaining on a contract, like what they did to acquire WR Amari Cooper in 2018, has some validity. Yes, that move was made to save that season and 2024 feels unsalvageable, but Dallas did get a season and a half out of him before adding another two years in a new deal.

Still, the likelihood is that Dallas needs to be sellers at the deadline, which is set for Tuesday at 4 pm ET.

As any trade rumors circulate throughout the day, or any actual transactions occur, they’ll be tracked here.

ESPN: Jerry Jones: Cowboys to mull upgrades; won’t give up on season

The trade deadline is Tuesday, and Jones said the Cowboys “have some things in the mill.”

Will the Boston Celtics regret moving on from Lamar Stevens?

There’s no way to know whether the Griz would have swapped out Stevens for another player, but it’s an intriguing thought.

From the moment they signed him until the Boston Celtics elected to trade him away, there has been a notable camp behind former Boston forward Lamar Stevens who believed he’d have some valuable contributions for the Celtics if he could just get the run to show it.

But now Stevens is a member of the Memphis Grizzlies, dealt there to bring big man Xavier Tillman to Boston. Will the Celtics regret moving on from him? Pointing to Stevens’ role as an energy guy off the bench, Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley makes the case that Boston could regret the move.

“The Celtics needed frontcourt depth, so if dealing Stevens was the only way to make that happen, it was probably the right move,” writes the B/R analyst.

“Still, you don’t want to take the energy out of a locker room that’s gearing up for the always challenging stretch run, so Boston perhaps should’ve tried to do this deal with someone else,” he suggests.

There is no way to know whether the Griz would have been down to swap out Svi Mykhailiuk or another player on a minimum deal, but with the team now looking to shore up its forward depth, Buckley’s case has legs — if small ones.

Report: Boston Celtics among several teams that made serious offers for Andre Drummond

Alas, Big Penguin in Boston was not meant to be.

It seems that one of the more popular hypothetical trade ideas for the Boston Celtics could have come to fruition, but the Celtics would ultimately decide to go in another direction at the NBA’s 2024 trade deadline instead. According to new reporting from HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, Chicago Bulls veteran big man Andre Drummond “also drew trade interest” from Boston before the Celtics “went in other directions.:

That direction would of course be their decision to trade for Memphis Grizzlies big man Xavier Tillman, Sr., who Boston picked up for the contract of forward Lamar Stevens and a pair of second round picks.

According to Scotto, the Bulls were looking for a trio of second round picks to seal the deal for the UConn alum, which likely sunk the move for the Celtics with the Tillman deal on the table.

To be fair, Drummond is the better player, but one can also make the case that he duplicates a skill set Boston already has on their roster in Neemias Queta with Queta having upside for growth.

As does Tillman, whose comparative youth at age 25 and expiring contract with Bird rights make the former Grizzlies big man a solid option for building out the team’s options in future, cap-crunched seasons.

Boston gets national praise for their 2024 NBA trade deadline moves

“Phenomenal pickups for the Celtics,” writes The Athletic of Boston’s trade deadline moves.

The Boston Celtics may not have made major moves at the NBA’s 2024 trade deadline. But they are still seen as a ball club that the deadline deals they did make served them well, according to a recent article by The Athletic’s Zach Harper. “The Celtics made small moves by acquiring Xavier Tillman Sr. and Jaden Springer, but both of those deals could be exactly what the team needed,” writes The Athletic NBA analyst.

“Boston’s top talent is as good as any team’s, but its overall roster lacked depth,” adds Harper on the pair of moves made by the Celtics ahead of the Feb. 8 limit on trading players this season.

“Springer adds a very active defender on the perimeter,” he suggests. “More importantly, Tillman gives great depth for their interior.”

“He can defend and rebound,” writes Harper of the backup Boston big man. “Tillman can also help keep Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford fresh. Phenomenal pickups for the Celtics.”

Which Eastern Conference rivals should the Boston Celtics worry about after the trade deadline?

Could one of these teams be a postseason threat to Boston after their trade deadline business?

The NBA’s 2024 trade deadline is now firmly in the league’s rearview mirror, and the NBA’s hierarchy has shifted some with it. In the Association’s Eastern Conference, the Boston Celtics still reign supreme, but should they be worried about new teams in the wake of their deadline moves?

The Milwaukee Bucks and to a lesser extent, the Philadelphia 76ers were the ball clubs seen as most likely to challenge the Celtics this season, but both those clubs have had their own struggles that have impeded such an outcome if not removed it entirely. But a few teams in the East made some moves to make themselves a tougher out, especially the New York Knicks.

Could one of these teams be a postseason threat to Boston after their trade deadline business?

NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg, Brian Scalabrine and Tom Giles discussed the new order of the East on the most recent episode of the “Celtics Talk” podcast. Check it out above!

Shams Charania on the Boston Celtics trade deadline moves

The Celtics went after a pair of defensive specialists to help fortify their roster.

Even before the NBA’s 2024 trade deadline, the Boston Celtics were favorites to win the 2024 finals and hang the long-awaited Banner 18. But then the Celtics went after a pair of defensive specialists to help fortify their roster in case of injury.

Adding former Memphis Grizzlies backup big man Xavier Tillman, Sr. and then Philadelphia 76ers reserve wing Jaden Springer fleshes out Boston’s deep rotation with players who can stay on the floor for the Celtics should their name be called. But also happen to be options who will not get bent out of shape if they have to ride the pine for some time.

Speaking on a recent episode of WEEI’s “Jones and Mego” show, the eponymous hosts were joined by The Athletic’s Shams Charania, who gave his read on Boston’s trade deadline moves.

Did the Boston Celtics do enough at the NBA’s 2024 trade deadline?

The only way we will know for sure is by the Celtics playing the games.

Did the Boston Celtics do enough at the NBA’s 2024 trade deadline to secure a title? The only way we will know for sure is by the Celtics playing the games, but the team did make some substantive if minor moves ahead of the Feb. 8 moratorium on moving players.

The Celtics picked up backup big man Xavier Tillman, Sr. from the Memphis Grizzlies for a pair of second round draft picks and the contract of reserve forward Lamar Stevens first, a few days ahead of the deadline. Then, Boston traded for Philadelphia 76ers backup wing Jaden Springer for a second round pick while also sending reserve forward Dalano Banton to the Portland Trail Blazers for a top-55 protected second round pick.

To talk over the moves and how impactful they may be for the Celtics, the hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Beat” podcast linked up with NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg on a recent episode.

Woj: Boston Celtics trading for Philadelphia 76ers wing Jaden Springer

The Boston Celtics are not done making moves at the NBA’s 2024 trade deadline after all.

The Boston Celtics are not done making moves at the NBA’s 2024 trade deadline after all, with word from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reporting that the Celtics are making a deal for a Philadelphia 76ers wing. The senior ESPN reporter reports that the “76ers are trading Jaden Springer to the Celtics for a second round pick.”

“The 2024 second-round pick the Sixers will receive from the Boston Celtics in exchange for Jaden Springer is the more favorable Chicago or New Orleans,” reports the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompeii on the draft compensation that the Sixers will get for the deal.

The Celtics will not need to open a roster spot for the deal to work, but will likely send out one of their deep bench players on a minimum deal, or less likely, by cutting them, ahead of the 2024 deadline.

Meaning, the move has already been made, and is merely a matter of time for the news to break on what that move was.

Should the Boston Celtics consider pursuing new free agent Danuel House?

Currently, the stars don’t seem aligned, but that could change.

On any NBA trade deadline, there are always roster crunch casualties who are good players who find themselves cut by their current team in order to make room for new, better players who have been dealt to their ball club.

And such is the case at the league’s 2024 trade deadline, with veteran Philadelphia 76ers wing Danuel House. Having been cut to make room for a buyout candidate, presumably Philadelphia native Kyle Lowry if he is cut after having been dealt to the Charlotte Hornets earlier this month, House is now a free agent himself.

The Boston Celtics are among teams who could use some additional veteran wing depth; should they try to sign the 30-year-old, 6-foot-6 wing?

If they did, they would need their last open a roster spot.

House’s 3-point shot (30.0% this season) has not been great, but as a career 35.% shot from deep who has put up 4.2 points and 1.7 boards per game with the 76ers this season, a world where adding House for additional wing depth could make sense.

Could Danny Ainge do the Boston Celtics a solid with a late Kris Dunn deal?

What do we know about the possibility of a last-minute Dunn deal being a done deal (pun intended)?

Could Utah Jazz President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge do his former ball club a last-minute favor and help the Boston Celtics fortify their backcourt rotation? There have been conflicting reports on whether the Celtics are actually going to make any more moves ahead of the NBA’s 2024 trade deadline, but if Boston did make a trade for Jazz guard Kris Dunn, they’d have among the best defensive squads in the league.

And they already have that, which ought to tell you all you know about how tough of an out they would become on that end of the court. But as with all things Trader Danny, would the ask be too high for the Celtics to pay?

The hosts of the CLNS Media “How Bout Them Celtics!” and ” Talkin’ Cs” podcasts linked up to talk about the possibility of a last-minute Dunn deal being a done deal (pun intended).
