Five most important Jaguars games of the 2024 season

Five most important Jaguars games of the 2024 season

Now that Jacksonville has received its 2024 season schedule, here is Jaguars Wire’s list of the top five most important games that will be crucial for the team to win as it eyes a bounce-back year and a return to the postseason.

  1. Week 18: Jaguars vs. Colts

The Colts will have their starter quarterback Anthony Richardson back in the game after suffering a season-ending shoulder injury last October in Week five against the Titans, shortening his rookie year. The Colts remained persistent throughout the 2023 season and finished strong, with Gardner Minshew filling in the big shoes. With Richardson back healthy and a year under his belt, a revenge tour is most likely underway.

Richardson also has two prominent wide receiver targets who will prove to be electric on the field. Their immense speed and dependable routes will allow the quarterback to find a secure connection in the passing game. These two players include 2024 NFL Draft pick Adonai Mitchell, who was picked up in round two as the 52 pick, and Michael Pittman Jr.

The stakes are high, but with this game on home turf in Jacksonville, there is a high possibility that the Jaguars will defeat the Colts. During this time, with it being the last week of the regular season, the Jaguars may have their playoff spot locked in winning the AFC South, or they may be fighting until the final minutes to inch their way in. Jacksonville has eased their win into the playoffs the past few years, but this past season, with the race between the Colts, Texans, and Jaguars as the teams have become more competitive, there is no telling if this season will prompt a different outcome.

  1. Week 3: Jaguars vs. Bills

Last year’s matchup against the Bills was overseas in London, where the Jaguars beat them 25-20 in a game in which both teams were out of their usual elements. This year, the game will be in Buffalo, where, for most teams, weather could influence the outcome of the game. Similar to the Jaguars, the Bills have also had a run of making it to the playoffs but have opted out early.

However, this year on the offensive front, while in the offseason, the Bills lost Stefon Diggs, 2024 NFL Draft pick Keon Coleman has already made a name for himself in the receiver room and in the Bills Mafia fan base. The Bills have also added the newest addition to their team, Joe Brady, who is in his first season as the Bills offensive coordinator.

Despite working to curate a better offense, the Bills’ defense remains prominent, with key weapons such as cornerback Rasul Douglas. A win against the Bills would be a huge confidence booster for the Jaguars and could possibly set the tone for how the rest of the season will go.

  1. Week 17: Jaguars vs. Titans

Weeding out divisional competition always leads to an intensely competitive game. The Titans could have had a better 2023 season, but in a year of rebuilding their team and starting rookie quarterback Will Levis, the team managed to pull off some great upsets. One was eliminating the Jaguars from last year’s playoff contention, leaving a promising remark on the team’s future.

The Titans are still working to improve their starting lineup and find out whether Levis is their first-string quarterback, along with building a competitive roster with the guys they’ve got. In the midst of changes among the Titans team, with competitive players who are willing to put everything on the line, the team has a way to be successful and curate more upsets on their opponents.

In Week 17, the Jaguars have several possibilities regarding the outcome of this game. They may have clinched their playoff spot, or this win would have clinched their spot along with the division. However, if they lose, they will head into the final week, fighting until the end to ease their way against the Colts. A win would leave the Jaguars more secure in what their playoff picture would look like.

  1. Week 11: Jaguars vs. Lions

More than halfway into the season, defeating one of the best teams in the league would ignite fire into the Jaguars’ competitiveness. The Lions hold a 5-3 record over the Jaguars and have blown them out pretty much in every game, the most recent being the Jaguars’ 41-14 loss back in 2022.

With the Lions’ stacked team, a win would be another confidence booster nearing the end of the season. It would also make a statement showing the team’s growth in defeating huge contenders. This is also the Jaguars’ final game before their bye, which would allow them to head into the week happy while also having a break to bounce back and get healthy.

  1. Week 9: Jaguars vs. Eagles

Heading into a game with the 2023 Super Bowl contenders at their home turf would be another defining statement for the Jaguars team. When the teams last met in 2022, the Eagles won 29-21; this year, the Jaguars have the chance to even the playing record to 4-4. Trevor Lawrence is now in the race to establish himself as one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL.

The Eagles are another team that has remained unstoppable with its stellar defense. If the Jaguars can run the ball and not have their pass game interrupted, there is a good chance they could come out on top.

Diving deeper into the history between these two teams, head coach Doug Pederson is looking to get his first win against his former team in a primetime game. A win would no doubt also put the Jaguars and Pederson in a lot of conversations early if they also have a promising overall record at the halfway point in the season.

Denver Broncos: Check out Lewis Hamilton revealing the 2024 schedule

Check out Broncos owner Lewis Hamilton Revealing the Broncos 2024 Schedule

In the Formula One world, Lewis Hamilton is a legend. He’s the winner of seven F1 championships and has the record for the most wins (103). But he’s also expanded his career outside of the race track and joined the Walton-Penner ownership group with the Denver Broncos in 2022.

With that said, Hamilton had the honor of unveiling the Broncos 2024 NFL schedule. Hamilton revealed the schedule by taking a tasting journey. The Indianapolis Colts did a similar reveal in 2023 by revealing opponents through famous dishes represented by the city.

Hamilton’s first dish centered around Indianapolis. Denver will host the Indianapolis Colts on December 15th, and Hamilton tried out ranch from their city. Their second game will be via the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Hamilton revealed the matchup through Potato Pierogi, a staple in Pittsburgh.

Broncos announce 2024 preseason schedule

The Denver Broncos have three preseason games scheduled, beginning August 11.

The Denver Broncos’ preseason schedule was announced on Thursday night, and there are some familiar teams on the schedule.

The preseason slate begins on Sunday morning, August 11 (11 am MST kickoff) on the road against the Indianapolis Colts. This may be a good warm-up game, as Denver is set to play the Colts at Empower Field on December 15 (Week 15).

Week 2 of the preseason has the Broncos facing the Green Bay Packers at home on Sunday, August 18. That game will begin at 6 pm MST. The last time Denver played the Packers, the Broncos surprised Green Bay in Denver during the 2023 regular season.

Finally, Denver wraps up their preseason play at home on Sunday, August 25 against the Arizona Cardinals. The final game kicks off at 2:30 MST. The Broncos last played the Cardinals during the 2023 preseason, where they lost a close game, 18-17.

The Broncos are trying to build a playoff campaign off an 8-9 season in head coach Sean Payton’s first year as head coach of the team.

Jayden Daniels and the Commanders will conclude preseason vs. Drake Maye and Patriots

It’s an all AFC East slate in the preseason for the Commanders.

The NFL unveiled the 2024 regular-season schedule on Wednesday evening. With the schedule now official, fans can begin preparing for which home games they will attend or if they will see their favorite team on the road.

The Washington Commanders begin the 2024 season on the road with a trip to Tampa Bay to face the Buccaneers in quarterback Jayden Daniels’ NFL debut.

With nine home games in the regular season, that means one home preseason game. The Commanders will be on the road for the first two weeks of the preseason against the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins.

Washington concludes its AFC East preseason slate at home against the New England Patriots and quarterback Drake Maye. Maye, who many believed would be Washington’s selection in the 2024 NFL draft, was drafted one spot below Daniels at No. 3 overall.

Commanders QB Jayden Daniels will make his NFL debut on the road

Jayden Daniels’ NFL debut will be on the road in Week 1.

Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels will make his official NFL debut on the road. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Commanders will open the season in Tampa Bay against the Buccaneers.

The No. 2 overall pick from LSU will face a Tampa Bay defense that ranked No. 23 in total defense, No. 29 in passing defense, No. 5 in run defense and No. 7 in scoring defense in 2023.

The Commanders will look completely different in September. Washington’s three quarterbacks from last season are gone and replaced by Daniels, Marcus Mariota and Jeff Driskel or Sam Hartman. Additionally, the Commanders added former Pro Bowl running back Austin Ekeler to a backfield already led by Brian Robinson Jr. Veteran tight end Zach Ertz is now the starting tight end and rookie Ben Sinnott will likely play a significant role.

Daniels debuted in the burgundy and gold at last weekend’s rookie minicamp wearing the No. 5 jersey. His official NFL debut will be on the road.

Florida Times-Union makes noteworthy Jaguars schedule prediction

Florida Times-Union makes noteworthy Jaguars schedule prediction

With the NFL’s schedule release turning into an offseason spectacle in recent years, predictions have become commonplace in its buildup.

Tim Walters of the Florida Times-Union made several for the Jaguars’ slate, including one that would present a first-of-its-kind moment for the team if it were to occur: Playing on Thanksgiving.

Jaguars first: Playing on Thanksgiving at Detroit

The Jaguars are the only NFL team to have never played on Thanksgiving. I think that will change this year.

The Jaguars play at Detroit, and what better way to spend your Thanksgiving than eating turkey and watching Jags-Lions.

The Lions are fresh off [an NFC Championship] appearance and the Jaguars feature everyone’s favorite goldie-locked QB: Trevor Lawrence.

As the editor of the T-U in Jacksonville, I’m not looking forward to working on Thanksgiving. But it looks like I may have to.

The editor of Jaguars Wire would tend to agree with Walters’ final comment.

But Walters’ prediction is plausible considering the Jaguars are celebrating their 30th season in the NFL this year and fittingly would face a feline opponent in the Lions, a Thanksgiving staple squad, in their holiday premiere.

We’ll know if Jacksonville will make its Thanksgiving debut, and the rest of the Jaguars’ 2024 slate, when the NFL holds its schedule release party on May 15, as reported by Ben Fischer of Sports Business Journal.

Editor’s note: The Florida Times-Union prediction incorrectly stated Detroit made a Super Bowl appearance during the 2023-24 season, which was included in the original version of this story. It has since been corrected.

*in London

In addition to its six AFC South matchups, Jacksonville will face each team from the AFC East and NFC North this year, with Cleveland, Philadelphia and Las Vegas filling out the schedule.

According to Gene Frenette of The Florida Times-Union, the Jaguars will play back-to-back games in London for the second consecutive year in 2024, a home game at Wembley Stadium and an away game, against Chicago, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
