Projected second-round pick Jalen Bridges ‘forever grateful’ to enter NBA draft

Bridges was named to the All-Big 12 third team last season after averaging 12.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 blocks.

Jalen Bridges previously tested the predraft process, and the former Baylor forward believes that experience is helping him this year in workouts and interviews with teams.

Bridges played the first two years of his college career at West Virginia before transferring to Baylor. He declared for the NBA draft after his junior year with the Bears before withdrawing and returning to play this past season.

The 6-foot-8 forward competed in the G League Elite Camp and worked out with the Charlotte Hornets last year. Bridges, speaking Thursday after working out with the Golden State Warriors, said that experience helped prepare him this time around.

I feel like last year really, really, really helped me. It was the first time I really got to be around professionals because, in West Virginia, there are not a lot of guys who have done what I’m trying to do. Being around guys in the league, seeing how they carry themselves on and off the court, seeing their habits and just taking that and making them my habits and taking them back to school with me helped me be ready for this moment and perform in these workouts.

Bridges was named to the All-Big 12 third team after averaging 12.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 blocks on 41.2% shooting from 3-point range. He registered five 20-point games, including a season-high 32 points and nine rebounds on March 4.

The 23-year-old was among the 80-plus prospects invited to compete in the draft combine last month in Chicago, Illinois. He showed off his overall skill set in the 5-on-5 scrimmages, averaging 10.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in two games.

Bridges projects to check several boxes at the next level, as a forward who can space the floor and defend multiple positions with his 6-foot, 10-inch wingspan. He believes those attributes will enable him to make an immediate impact.

“I feel like the aspects that are most translatable on Day 1 would probably be my shooting and defense and my activity,” Bridges said. “I know how to play. I feel like what I would need to work on, not necessarily my ballhandling in general but just like the angles on my drives and little minor details like that.”

He is currently projected to be a second-round pick. However, he’ll be able to improve his draft stock in interviews and workouts throughout the rest of the predraft process. He will have other visits scheduled ahead of the draft on June 26-27.

After playing four years in college, Bridges is appreciative of the opportunity to test the draft. He is eager to showcase himself in front of teams and begin the next journey of his career.

“It is easy to say when you’re a kid that you want to play in the NBA, but it is a whole ‘nother thing to dedicate your life to this craft and sacrifice friends, family and fun — your freedom basically — to chase after a very exclusive club, which is one of the hardest things to do,” Bridges said. “I’m forever grateful and truly blessed to be in this position and have opportunities like these.”

Report: Pelicans to defer Lakers’ first-round draft pick to 2025

The Pelicans will reportedly defer the first-round pick owed to them from the Lakers to 2025.

The New Orleans Pelicans will reportedly defer the 2024 first-round pick owed to them from the Los Angeles Lakers to 2025, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The Pelicans are to receive the pick as part of the Anthony Davis trade with the Lakers. They have already acquired two picks from the deal and will opt to receive the final pick next year, giving the Lakers the 17th overall selection this month.

New Orleans had until 11:59 p.m. EDT on Saturday to decide on the pick.

The two teams agreed to the trade in June 2019, with the Lakers sending Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, Brandon Ingram and three first-round picks to the Pelicans.

After deferring the Lakers’ first-round pick to 2025, the Pelicans have the 21st pick in the draft this year. The Lakers also have the 55th pick in the second round to pair with the 17th pick.

The 2024 NBA draft will take place June 26-27 in New York City.

Nebraska guard to workout for the Chicago Bulls

Keisei Tominaga will hold a workout for the Chicago Bulls on Monday, June 3.

A former Nebraska basketball player has scheduled another workout with an NBA team. Keisei Tominaga will hold a workout for the Chicago Bulls on Monday, June 3.

Tominaga has already held workouts for the Sacramento Kings and the LA Clippers. In 32 games last season, he averaged 15.1 points, shooting 46.6% from the field and 37.6% from the three-point line.

This is not the first time that the Nagoya, Japan native has worked out for NBA teams. He worked out for the Indiana Pacers in the run-up to the 2023 NBA draft before withdrawing and returning to Nebraska for his senior season.

Projections currently have Tominaga as a second-round draft pick. The Bulls only have one draft pick, No. 11 overall, but could trade into a later pick if they feel Tominaga is worth selecting.

The 2024 NBA draft will run from Wednesday, June 26, till Thursday, June 27.

Chicago Bulls reportedly trying to move up for UConn’s Donovan Clingan

Clingan, a mountain of a man, is mobile for a 7-footer, and can block shots, pass the rock, and in recent workouts, shoot it from deep too.

Are the Chicago Bulls looking to move up in the 2024 NBA draft to get a specific player? According to some recent rumbles around the league media sphere, the team’s front office very well could be. Writing in his most recent mock draft for ESPN, draft expert Jonathan Givony let it slip that the Bulls are looking to trade up to get their top target.

And that target is none other than University of Connecticut champion big man Donovan Clingan, a worthy target in our estimation should the ask not be too high. Clingan, a mountain of a man, is surprisingly mobile for a 7-footer, and can block shots, pass the rock, and in recent workouts, shoot it from deep too.

If that last quality pans out at the NBA level, we have a bona fide high-level starter potential for the Husky center, with rotation big as a floor.

That’s a fairly solid gamble, and the hosts of the “CHGO Bulls” podcast took a closer look at why that is on a recent episode. Check it out above!

All-American DaRon Holmes rumored to have received first-round draft promise

Former Dayton forward DaRon Holmes II is reportedly gaining traction to become a first-round pick in the 2024 NBA draft.

Former Dayton forward DaRon Holmes II is reportedly gaining traction to become a first-round pick in the 2024 NBA draft, according to Jonathan Givony of ESPN.

Holmes recently canceled predraft workouts with several teams, creating speculation that he has received a draft promise. He was considered a borderline first-round pick but has apparently improved his stock to be a lock to go in the top 30.

Sources told ESPN Holmes recently canceled several workouts, raising strong suspicions that he has secured a guarantee in the back part of the first round. Coming off a productive career at Dayton in which he made strides as a shooter (38% from 3 last season), Holmes appears to have helped himself in the pre-draft process, moving himself into the first-round picture.

Holmes was a consensus second-team All-American this past season with the Flyers, averaging 20.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.1 blocks in 33 games. He was also named the Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.

The 6-foot-10 center appears to have had a strong predraft process. It now looks like Holmes will be drafted toward the back of the end of the first round, with teams like Washington, Minnesota, Utah, Denver and Boston positioned in that range.

The 2024 NBA draft will take place June 26-27 in New York City.

Rumor: Rockets expected to shop No. 3 pick ahead of 2024 NBA draft

After landing the No. 3 pick in the 2024 NBA draft, the Rockets are reportedly open to trading the selection.

After landing the No. 3 pick in the 2024 NBA draft, the Houston Rockets are reportedly open to trading the selection to acquire a veteran player to add to their roster.

The Rockets have built through the draft in recent years, selecting players like Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun, Jabari Smith Jr., Amen Thompson and Cam Whitmore. The team also has veterans in Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks and will be looking to add to that core.

With the organization looking to take the next step in its rebuild, the front office will discuss potential trade packages with teams involving the third pick, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

The No. 3 pick – one of five potential first-round picks the Rockets can trade this offseason in a package to land a star player – will be discussed in trade talks leading up to draft night, league sources told HoopsHype.

The Rockets jumped massively up the standings this season after posting a 41-41 record, which was a 19-game improvement from last year. The group, by led first-year coach Ime Udoka, had great stretches of the season and looked to be a team on the rise.

The team will likely look to continue to prioritize playing time for its veterans moving forward, making the No. 3 pick expendable. The pick is one of the Rockets’ best assets, and the front office will be tasked with seeing how valuable it can be in trade discussions.

If the Rockets cannot find a trade partner and keep the pick, they will reportedly look to draft a guard with the pick. They could target the likes of Stephon Castle, Rob Dillingham, Reed Sheppard or Nikola Topić, among others.

The 2024 NBA draft will take place June 26-27 in New York City.

ESPN 2024 NBA mock draft: Thunder selects Providence’s Devin Carter

ESPN 2024 NBA mock draft: Thunder selects Providence’s Devin Carter.

As the calendar flips to June, the 2024 NBA draft is less than a month away. The Oklahoma City Thunder will enter it with the No. 12 selection via the Houston Rockets.

The lottery pick is OKC’s sole selection this year — a far cry from the previous years when it had multiplayer classes. Despite this, Thunder general manager Sam Presti admitted he was a fan of this year’s class, which is viewed as one of the weaker classes in recent history.

In ESPN’s latest 2024 NBA mock draft, experts Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo had the Thunder selecting Providence guard Devin Carter with the No. 12 spot.

“Carter has earned himself looks in the top 10 from teams, including San Antonio and Memphis, who value his reliability, toughness and all-around readiness to step in and contribute immediately. He brings quite a bit to the table defensively, has made strides as a shooter and plays with a nonstop motor, making him a particularly appealing choice for teams angling to compete sooner rather than later.

The Thunder have quite a bit of depth in the backcourt already, with two excellent defensive guards in Lu Dort and Cason Wallace, but could opt to stack the deck further at this spot and let Carter challenge for minutes right away. “

The 22-year-old spent three college seasons split between South Carolina and Providence. He averaged 19.7 points on 47.3% shooting, 8.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists last season. He shot 37.7% from 3 on 6.8 attempts.

Despite being just 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds, Carter could address the Thunder’s rebounding woes. He’s also a high-volume outside shooter, which OKC needs on its roster. The fit makes sense as a role player for the Thunder.

Mock draft sees Spurs take Tidjane Salaun with No. 8 pick

Could the San Antonio Spurs select Tidjane Salaun in the NBA Draft?

Heading into the offseason, the NBA Draft will provide the San Antonio Spurs with a solid opportunity to snag new young pieces. In ESPN’s latest NBA mock draft, the Spurs selected French forward Tidjane Salaun with the eighth pick in the draft.

“Salaun has arrived in the U.S. for workouts, but will head back overseas next week to the NBA’s pre-draft camp in Treviso, Italy, to complete his required medicals and testing,” wrote Jeremy Woo. “He has gained steam as a lottery candidate after finishing his season in strong form, showcasing his physical tools and potential versatility at either forward spot.

“Salaun, yet to turn 19, is still a ways away from contributing at a high level, but the room for long-term growth makes him an appealing development pick in the mid-to-late lottery. His familiarity with Victor Wembanyama likely doesn’t hurt his case as an option for San Antonio, but the Spurs are considering a handful of prospects at this spot, including Dillingham, Nikola Topic, Cody Williams and Dalton Knecht.”

Could the Spurs create a new French duo with Salaun and Victor Wembanyama?

Stephon Castle goes to Spurs at pick No. 4 in mock draft

In a recent NBA mock draft, the San Antonio Spurs picked up UConn guard Stephon Castle.

The San Antonio Spurs have two top-10 picks in this year’s draft. With them, they have an opportunity to add solid young talent next to Victor Wembanyama. In ESPN’s latest mock draft, they have the Spurs selecting UConn guard Stephon Castle with the fourth pick.

“The Spurs have been exploring all options with their two top-10 picks as they enter a critical offseason,” wrote Jeremy Woo. “With Victor Wembanyama on a superstar-level trajectory, San Antonio has an opportunity to accelerate its path toward the playoffs, whether that’s via the draft, trades or other means. The biggest roster need is at point guard, and rival teams have connected the Spurs to the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Darius Garland as they work to revamp the team.

“Keeping both these picks and taking multiple swings in the draft is also an attractive path, with the challenge being nailing the right pairing of players who will fit together with Wembanyama. San Antonio has demonstrated strong interest in Castle, who might well land here if the Spurs stay put. Castle’s two-way versatility, playmaking potential and size give him attractive upside, and also make him an easy player to pair with whomever the Spurs draft at No. 8.”

Castle’s upside at the point guard position makes him a very intriguing target for the Spurs.
