Paul Skenes suffers first loss in big leagues with Pirates

Paul Skenes only allowed two runs in his first start since the All-Star Game, but that wasn’t enough to keep his perfect record intact.

[autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] made his first start since being the starting pitcher for the National League during the [autotag]2024 MLB All-Star Game[/autotag]. He picked up right where he left off as he continued to deal.

The only issue was he failed to get any run support from his offense. Skenes was charged with his first loss of the season as the Pirates lost 2-1 to the St. Louis Cardinals. Skenes was pulled from the game after pitching 8.1 innings. He gave up two runs on four hits, eight strikeouts, and zero walks.

Skenes now has a 6-1 record and a 1.93 ERA. He did everything his coaching staff could have asked of him but he still could not pull off a win. That’s the life of a pitcher. It takes all nine guys in the lineup to help you win on a good day or on a bad day. We will see Skenes again soon and hopefully, his team can get him another win.

Watch Livvy Dunne show off pitch grips with Paul Skenes at the MLB All-Star Game

Livvy Dunne showed off her four-seam fastball grip, though she conceded that she’s “more of a splinker girl.”

[autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] is only a couple of months into his MLB career, and he’s already etching his name in the history books.

On Tuesday night, Skenes became the first rookie pitcher to start the All-Star Game since 1995, and though he only threw for one inning, it was certainly an impressive frame.

He allowed just one baserunner on a walk to Juan Soto, but he capped off the inning by inducing a first-pitch groundout from Soto’s Yankees teammate Aaron Judge. Skenes threw just 16 pitches in the inning, 11 of which were strikes.

Also in attendance with Skenes was his girlfriend, LSU gymnast [autotag]Livvy Dunne[/autotag], who enters her fifth season with the Tigers in 2025. While Dunne is known for her feats on the floor, she also seems to be picking up some pitching hacks.

At Skenes’ prompting, Dunne showed off her four-seam fastball grip, though she joked that she’s “more of a splinker girl.” The splinker is Skenes’ hybrid splitter and sinker pitcher, which he has relied on heavily to this point in his pro career.

If LSU baseball coach [autotag]Jay Johnson[/autotag] needs some pitching depth next spring, I know where he needs to call.

Mason Miller made MLB All-Star Game pitching speed history with this devastating fastball

Mason Miller made MLB All-Star Game history with his fastball on Tuesday night.

Oakland A’s sensational rookie pitcher Mason Miller has become known for his blistering fastball.

During Tuesday night’s MLB All-Star Game, Miller threw a pitch so devastating for the American League team that it broke a record for the history of the sporting event.

The MLB confirmed that this Miller pitch clocked in at 103.6 mph, making it the fastest pitch to ever be thrown at the All-Star Game in the pitch-tracking era that started in 2008.

Miller is just unbelievably talented, as this four-seam fastball is almost impossible for opposing batters to hit. Not only did Miller make the All-Star Game in his first MLB season; he made some history while he was there.

Aaron Judge and Juan Soto gave priceless reactions to Shohei Ohtani’s astounding All-Star Game homer

Aaron Judge and Juan Soto could only marvel at this incredible Shohei Ohtani All-Star Game homer.

New York Yankees superstars Aaron Judge and Juan Soto couldn’t help but be amazed by how Los Angeles Dodgers two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani hammered a home run at this year’s MLB All-Star Game.

The two Yankees All-Stars were part of the American League team that Ohtani went yard on at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, and they had the most priceless reaction to how well Ohtani hit the ball for the National League team.

Both of them had the kind of hilarious look that says, “well, what can you do?”

When you’re facing a player as generationally special as Ohtani, that’s just going to happen. Their reactions were very relatable.

Livvy Dunne cheering on Paul Skenes after he finished his MLB All-Star Game inning was so wholesome

Livvy Dunne was in Arlington to cheer on Paul Skenes during this year’s MLB All-Star Game.

Pittsburgh Pirates rookie pitcher Paul Skenes made his MLB All-Star Game debut on Tuesday night, and LSU gymnast Livvy Dunne was right there to cheer him on.

As the two are in a relationship from their days together in Baton Rouge, Dunne was in the stands at Globe Life Field for the 2024 edition of the MLB’s annual gathering for its best players.

Skenes had a very solid night on the mound for the National League team, and the Fox Sports broadcast showed Dunne rooting for him as he finished his All-Star Game inning.

Dunne has been to a good number of Skenes’ Pirates games, and we’re sure there will be more All-Star Games for this couple in the years ahead.

Shohei Ohtani absolutely obliterated this fantastic 2024 MLB All-Star Game home run, stunning fans in the process

Shohei Ohtani. Homer. 2024 MLB All-Star Game. Incredible.

Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani absolutely crushed a baseball for a stunning home run during Tuesday night’s MLB 2024 All-Star Game.

Arguably the best baseball hitter in the world, Ohtani destroyed the ball off a pitch from Boston Red Sox ace Tanner Houck into the stands at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, to the roar of the fans in attendance.

The homer run gave the National League team a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning, too.

Ohtani was delighted to be able to make such a major play during this year’s All-Star Game, as he was the first Dodgers player to hit a homer in the game since Mike Piazza in 1996. This really was a stunner.

MLB fans were simply amazed by how amazing this Ohtani homer was on one of baseball’s biggest stages.

Best photos of Paul Skenes and Livvy Dunne at the 2024 MLB All-Star Game

Paul Skenes became the first rookie pitcher to start the All-Star Game since 1995 on Tuesday night.

[autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] is quickly becoming one of the best young players in baseball just months into his rookie campaign, and the former first-overall pick in the 2023 MLB draft made some more history on Tuesday night.

He became the first rookie pitcher to start the MLB All-Star Game since 1995 and just the fifth all-time, getting the nod for the National League. It was an overall impressive showing as he allowed no hits or runs and just one walk as he worked through his lone inning of action in 16 pitches.

That included an out against Aaron Judge, arguably the top hitter in baseball.

It was surely a memorable experience for Skenes, who was joined in Arlington, Texas, by his girlfriend, LSU gymnast [autotag]Livvy Dunne[/autotag]. Here are the best photos from Skenes’ night at Globe Life Field.

A mic’d-up Trea Turner made an amazing diving play during the 2024 MLB All-Star Game and his Phillies teammates loved it

Trea Turner making a huge MLB All-Star Game play while wearing a mic was so cool.

Tuesday night’s 2024 MLB All-Star Game featured a wrinkle not normally heard in baseball: mic’d-up players.

While playing for the National League All-Star team, Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner made a fantastic diving play for an out while he was wearing a broadcast mic for Fox Sports.

His Phillies teammates Bryce Harper and Alec Bohm were also wearing mics, and we got to hear them root Turner on after landing the stellar out.

While we’re sure MLB players wouldn’t be too wild about wearing mics during actual games, the All-Star Game is the perfect opportunity to have some fun and let fans in on the process in real time.

Paul Skenes puts away Aaron Judge in 1-inning, shutout MLB All-Star Game outing

Paul Skenes worked through a mostly clean frame in his sole inning of All-Star Game action.

Former LSU pitcher and No. 1 overall draft pick [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] made history on Tuesday night, becoming just the fifth rookie pitcher in history to start the MLB All-Star Game and the first since 1995.

Getting the nod for the National League, the budding superstar for the Pittsburgh Pirates saw just one inning of action, but it was a pretty good one as he managed to show off his arsenal of pitches, which includes a routinely 100+ MPH fastball.

He began his outing with a popout and groundout before allowing a full-count walk to New York Yankees star Juan Soto. That brought up cleanup hitter and fellow Yankees star Aaron Judge for a matchup everyone was anticipating.

Judge swung at the first pitch, leading to a routine groundout as Skenes worked through the inning throwing just 16 pitches, 11 of which were strikes. He would not return for the second inning as his brief appearance came to an end.

Skenes is the odds-on favorite to win the National League Rookie of the Year, and after leading LSU to a national championship in 2023, he’s on his way to becoming one of the best pitchers in baseball at the highest level.
