Underrated moments from the Boston Celtics – Indiana Pacers Eastern Conference finals

It was just over a week ago that we were watching the Celtics grind it out with the Pacers at TD Garden and Gainsbridge Fieldhouse.

To most fans of the Boston Celtics, the Indiana Pacers Eastern Conference finals series was so long ago in the midst of this interminable break that it almost feels like it was last season. But it was just over a week ago that we were watching the Celtics grind it out with the Pacers at TD Garden and Gainsbridge Fieldhouse.

In that series, there were a number of plays and moments worth looking back on while we wait for the start of the 2024 NBA Finals to kick off at the Garden this Thursday (June 6) night. And that is exactly what the hosts of the CLNS Media “First to the Floor” podcast, Jake Issenberg, Ben Vallis, and Wayne Spooney, did for us to keep us focused while we wait for Boston to start the finals.

Take a look at the clip embedded below to see those moments for yourself.

Bob Ryan reacts to Jaylen Brown winning the NBA’s 2024 Eastern Conference finals MVP

Who else would have had a chance at the league’s 2024 ECF MVP award?

Star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown was surprised to learn that he had won the NBA’s 2024 Eastern Conference finals Most Valuable Player award, but his teammates and fans were much less so given how he has been playing in the 2024 postseason to date.

But who else would have had a chance at the league’s 2024 ECF MVP award? Was Jayson Tatum the next-closest performance through the four games of the sweep? Did Jrue Holiday have a legitimate case to win the award, or even Derrick White? The hosts of the CLNS Media “Bob Ryan, Jeff Goodman, and Gary Tanguay!” podcast took some time to talk it over on a recent show.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear their thoughts.

Boston Celtics player grades vs. the Indiana Pacers’ in the 2024 Eastern Conference finals

Are there any players we would say that should be garnering an ‘A’ for how they played in the East finals?

The Boston Celtics‘ defeat of the Indiana Pacers in just four games to sweep the NBA’s 2024 Eastern Conference finals is now firmly in our collective rearview window, but with that distance, we can also have a better perspective on the series.

And with that perspective, we can more effectively assess how individual Boston players did against the Pacers in the penultimate round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs. Are there any players we would say that should be garnering an ‘A’ for how they played in the East finals? And on the other end of the grading rubric, would any of the Celtics’ players deserve an ‘F’ for how they played in the series?

The hosts of the CLNS Media “How Bout Them Celtics!” podcast, Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance, handed out full-series report cards on a recent episode. Check ’em out below!

Why Jaylen Brown deserves the Eastern Conference finals MVP award

Few if anyone can say that they had a greater impact.

There seems to be a small subset of NBA fandom who do not get why star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown deserves the NBA’s 2024 Larry Bird Eastern Conference finals Most Valuable Player award. And some of them are Celtics fans, at that.

But even they should be able to admit that Brown had at least as good a case as anyone else on the team, and few if anyone can say that they had a greater impact. On the most recent episode of the CLNS Media “The Big 3 NBA” podcast, hosts A. Sherrod Blakely, Kwani Lewis, and Gary Washburn recapped the Celtics sweeping the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Finals.

They reflected on Brown winning the ECF MVP over Jayson Tatum, and make their guesses on how Tatum will perform in the 2024 NBA finals, and discuss the recent Stephen A. Smith comments regarding Brown. Check it out below!

Jrue Holiday on Jaylen Brown’s surprise at winning the 2024 Eastern Conference MVP award

In fact, that Brown did not see the honor coming was a positive in Holiday’s mind.

When Jaylen Brown won the NBA’s Eastern Conference finals MVP, the Georgia native was surprised. Veteran Boston Celtics teammate Jrue Holiday, however, was not at all shocked that Brown won the honor given what he has seen from the All-Star wing in this round of the postseason. In fact, that Brown did not see the honor coming was a positive in Holiday’s mind.

“I think it’s even better because he didn’t expect it,” he offered via the Athletic’s Jared Weiss. “That really means that (it) didn’t matter to him. It was about winning and whatever it took, however long it took, that’s what was important.”

“So, I think when you have that mentality and that mindset, and you see great people get rewarded for the things that they do, it just brings joy,” Holiday added.

The shift in focus compared to past playoffs for Brown has been hard to miss, with better shooting, ball control, passing, and decision-making all contributing to what coalesced into Brown’s being so honored by the league.

And it looks sustainable moving into the 2024 NBA Finals. Should it prove to be, a banner may be within Boston’s reach for the first time for more than a decade ago, save those of us who truly believe that 2022 was winnable.

Boston’s Jaylen Brown wins NBA’s 2024 Eastern Conference finals MVP

Brown won the third-ever such honor, with teammate Jayson Tatum winning the first-ever award.

The Boston Celtics swept the Indiana Pacers in their 2024 NBA Eastern Conference finals series with a 105-102 Game 4 win at Gainsbridge Fieldhouse on this past Monday (May 27) night. Maybe the game and series’ biggest star, Celtics forward Jaylen Brown, was rewarded with the NBA’s 2024 Eastern Conference finals Most Valuable Player award.

Brown won the third-ever such honor, with teammate Jayson Tatum winning the first-ever award, as Boston punched their ticket to the 2022 NBA Finals over the Miami Heat. The Georgia native was actually surprised by the honor, which our friends over at CLNS Media have been kind enough to document the ceremony of for your viewing pleasure.

Derrick White’s dad Richard on seeing his son hit the series clinching bucket for the Boston Celtics

Richard took a moment to share how the experience was for him as a proud dad.

It is not every day that one gets to see one’s progeny nail a series-winning basket in the NBA postseason, but Richard White, father of star Celtics floor general Derrick White, got to do exactly that. In the Boston Celtics‘ 105-102 Game 4 win over the Indiana Pacers, the elder White saw Derrick sink the clutch make after one of his rougher games in a while shooting the rock.

Richard took a moment to share how the experience was for him as a proud dad with some of the best seats in the house to his son’s monumental bucket going in for the Celtics. The folks over at CLNS Media put up a short interview with him on the topic.

Check out the clip embedded below to hear what he had to say for yourself.
