This high-profile 2023 football recruit dishes on Florida Gators

The Gators should be a legit player in this race for Cedrick Hawkins and he’s a recruit that Florida fans should keep an eye on.

While the 2022 recruiting class is the focus right now for the Florida Gators football program, the 2023 class isn’t out of sight.

Florida currently has five recruits verbally committed in 2022 but Dan Mullen and his staff are also taking a look at recruits in the 2023 class to try and get off to a great start. One recruit that is on their radar is four-star defensive back Cedrick Hawkins.

The Titusville, Florida product has a total of 17 offers in his recruitment including one from the Gators. But in-state programs Florida State and Miami as well as programs like Arizona State, Penn State, UCF, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pitt, Tennessee and others are also after him.

For Hawkins, he had the chance to take a visit to Florida for a Junior Day and dished on his experience to Chad Simmons of Rivals.com.

“I have visited Florida for a Junior Day, so I have had a chance to see things there. I like the campus, it felt like a family atmosphere, and I have developed a good relationship with coach Rat (Keiwan Ratliff).

The defensive back is ranked as a top 40 recruit overall, the No. 5 athlete and the No. 11 player in the state of Florida per the 247Sports rankings. With a lot of time left to go in his recruitment, we likely aren’t near a finish line.

The Gators should be a legit player in this race and he’s a recruit that Florida fans should keep an eye on.
