Will the Boston Celtics fire Joe Mazzulla if the Celtics get swept by the Miami Heat?

Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla admitted to reporters postgame that he didn’t have his team ready to play in such a high-leverage moment.

The Boston Celtics fell to the Miami Heat 128-102 in Game 3 of the 2023 Eastern Conference finals. They are now down three games to none, a deficit no team in the history of the NBA has overcome. Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla admitted to reporters postgame that he didn’t have his team ready to play in such a high-leverage moment.

Mazzulla said postgame that he has “to put them in better positions, I’ve got to get them ready to play and I have to have the game plan ready for us to be physical and be ready to execute. It’s important that we stick together.”

When asked about the disconnect in his locker room Joe said: “Yeah, that’s where I have to be better to figure out what this team needs to make sure that they’re connected.”

‘Sometimes you want something so bad, and things just don’t go as you plan,’ says Al Horford of Boston’s Game 3 loss

“It was tougher for us tonight, there’s no question about it. But this is a part of our journey right now,” said Horford after the loss.

After the Boston Celtics’ shocking Game 3 collapse vs. the Miami Heat in the 2023 East finals, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla fell on his sword. taking all of the blame for how his team played in a key contest for their hopes of hanging an NBA-record 18th banner.

But veteran big man Al Horford had something to say about how he and his teammates comported themselves despite Mazzulla’s mea culpa. “He’s being generous,” said the Florida alum postgame via CLNS Media. “At the end of the day, that falls on each player. We know what we have to do. We knew the magnitude of this game.”

“As a player, I take responsibility because we didn’t have what we needed to have — that’s what that is,” said Horford.

“I think we’re just having some adversity,” he continued. “I think it’s tough. … We’ve dealt with adversity all year, and right now, I personally felt that before the game we had the right mindset, and sometimes you want something so bad, and things just don’t go as you plan.”

“But it was tougher for us tonight, there’s no question about it. But this is a part of our journey right now. And right now we’re in a low, and rightfully so, we’re being counted out because we haven’t been able to respond.”

Celtics Lab 195: Boston drops Game 3 to Miami; what went wrong, what needs to change with Kyle Russell

Can they stave off disaster and accomplish the as-of-yet-impossible comeback? Should we put our energy into trying to imagine what this ball club does next once the dust settles on the series? And who ought to be blamed for this predictable yet also painful collapse?

Can they stave off disaster and accomplish the as-of-yet-impossible comeback? Should we put our energy into trying to imagine what this ball club does next once the dust settles on the series? And who ought to be blamed for this predictable yet also painful collapse?

PHOTOS-Boston at Miami: Celtics fold like a wet cardboard box to Heat 128-102

This series is almost certainly over, and maybe an era too.

The Boston Celtics have had a tendency of playing well when under duress this postseason, but the Celtics got off to a god-awful start to the first half of their Game 3 East Finals road tilt vs. the Miami Heat on Sunday night, and things only got worse in the second as Boston fell to Miami 128-102 and a 0-3 series deficit.

The bench outplayed the starters in this ugly loss with fault to be had in almost every corner of the organization, with seldom-used Grant Williams (12 points) Payton Pritchard (12 points, 5 assists), and Luke Kornet (11 points) putting forth more efficient, well-rounded, and engaged games than the players they sometimes get to spell on other nights.

Let’s take a look at some of the best moments captured in images in Game 3 of the East Finals between the Heat and Celtics.

Three thoughts on the Celtics’ calamitous 128-102 Game 3 loss to the Heat

The Boston Celtics wilted like orchids Sunday night, dropping Game 3 128-102 and falling behind 0-3 in the Eastern Conference finals.

Things are looking mighty precarious for the Boston Celtics right now following a devastating 128-102 loss to the Miami Heat in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals. The Celtics now trail 3-0 in the series, a deficit that has never been overcome in NBA history.

The Celtics looked absolutely without answers Sunday evening. Boston’s defense was listless, though Miami deserves credit. As a team, the Heat shot 56.8% from the floor and 54.3% from the field. Though it was indeed an uninspired showing from the visiting team, Miami deserves credit for a relentless scoring attack. The Heat were dramatically the better team.

The Celtics may have looked flat in Game 3 and may be on the ropes in the series, but fans in Boston will no doubt remember the heroics of the 2004 Boston Red Sox. That year, the Red Sox lost the third game of the American League championship 19-8 before roaring back and winning the series in seven games.

Can this Celtics team recapture that same magic? For now, here’s your recap of Game 3 between Boston and Miami in the Eastern Conference finals.

Who should the Boston Celtics start in Game 3 of their East finals series with the Miami Heat?

What players will be on the court for the ball club when tipoff happens later tonight?

Who should the Boston Celtics start in Game 3 of their 2023 Eastern Conference finals series with the Miami Heat? The Celtics’ late-game execution hurt them in Game 2 allowing the Heat to go on a fatal 34-16 run as Boston’s opponents snatched a 2-0 series lead.

According to Fan Duel Sportsbook, the Celtics are now 3.5-point favorites for Game 3. What players will be on the court for the ball club when tipoff happens later tonight? Will Boston win the critical contest, and what adjustments can Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla make that he has not already tried?

The hosts of the CLNS Media “Garden Report” podcast Bobby Manning and Josue Pavon report live from Miami ahead of Boston’s must-win game 3 vs the Miami Heat and discuss who ought to be starting for the Celtics in this key tilt and more.

Boston Celtics at Miami Heat: How to watch, broadcast, lineups (Game 3)

Can the Celtics make a series of things by avoiding falling into a 0-3 hole, or do the Heat have Boston’s number?

The Boston Celtics make the trip to Florida to face the Miami Heat for Game 3 of their 2023 Eastern Conference finals series down 0-2 after dropping both of their home games to start the series. Can the Celtics make a series of things by avoiding falling into a 0-3 hole, or do the Heat have Boston’s number?

If you happen to be looking for a way to watch the on-court action live on cable television or a local or national online streaming service that carries the game, keep reading while we get you up to speed on everything else you need to know about the game. Along with player injuries and likely starters for both teams,  we of course will have how to watch it listed below.

Let’s begin with the players available to play.

Boston’s Jaylen Brown excited for Celtics to mount ECF comeback: ‘It should make for a better story’

Down 0-2 in the Eastern Conference finals, Jaylen Brown is ready to lead a Celtics comeback.

The Boston Celtics are facing a daunting series deficit against the Miami Heat in the 2023 Eastern Conference finals. Down 2-0 at the time of this writing, the task ahead of the Celtics is a tall one as the team looks to make a return visit to the NBA Finals. Boston is hoping to become just the seventh team to ever come back and win a series after going down 0-2.

There are some reasons for optimism for basketball fans in the Hub. Though historically only 9.7% of teams ever advance in this situation, the Celtics have done so twice in their history. During the 1969 NBA Finals, the Los Angeles Lakers grabbed a 2-0 series lead before the Celtics stormed back to win that year’s title in seven games. More recently, Boston defeated the Chicago Bulls in six games after dropping the first two in the first round of the 2017 postseason. Still, the situation facing this Celtics team is perilous.

Regardless of the history or magnitude of the challenge, Boston’s All-NBA forward Jaylen Brown is ready for the fight. In his postgame press conference following a difficult Game 2 loss, Brown explained why he thinks the Celtics are ready for a fight.

WIll Grant Williams get more minutes in Game 3 vs. the Miami Heat?

Or was his ‘poking the bear’ on Jimmy Butler a problem?

The Boston Celtics have put themselves in an 0-2 hole after losing 111-105 to the Miami Heat in Game 2 at TD Garden Friday night. One of the big highlights from the night was Grant Williams jawing back and forth with Jimmy Butler, who ended up cutting Boston’s lead with four straight buckets in the fourth quarter and cited the trash talk as motivation.

After falling out of the rotation inexplicably, Williams had a solid game and made the decision by coach Joe Mazzulla to not play him even more of a head-scratcher. Even after the Butler dust-up and “poking the bear”, is it clear that Williams deserves more minutes? Will Mazzulla realize and acknowledge that?

Join the hosts of the CLNS Media “Garden Report” Bobby Manning and Josue Pavon as they discuss the performance of Grant Williams and the aftermath of ticking off Jimmy Butler in the video embedded below.

Celtics’ Jayson Tatum still optimistic about Boston’s chances down 0-2 to Miami

“I still have the most confidence; everybody has the most confidence and we just have got to get ready for Game 3,” offered Tatum.

The Boston Celtics find themselves in a 0-2 deficit as their 2023 Eastern Conference Finals series with the Miami Heat now shifting to South Florida for Games 3 and 4. But star Celtics forward Jayson Tatum thinks his team can still pull off an improbable series win to advance to the 2023 NBA Finals, even if he does admit it won’t be easy to do.

“It’s tough; it’s a challenge,” said Tatum to reporters postgame on Friday night. “There’s no point in being up here sad. They came in and won two games, they played well — you give them credit.”

“We’re not dead or anything,” added the St. Louis native. “We’ve got a great opportunity.”

“I still have the most confidence; everybody has the most confidence and we just have got to get ready for Game 3,” offered Tatum.

The Celtics have indeed come back from a 0-2 series deficit — and against a team led by Jimmy Butler, at that — in the 2017 postseason vs. the Chicago Bulls.

But asking this group of young and inconsistent stars to put forth the sort of effort to beat a team that just beat them twice on the road in three out of the next four games in the series is looking like quite the crucible for this wilting ball club.
