Brad Stevens speaks on Celtics being put up for sale

The Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations has discussed the franchise being put up for sale by the Grousbeck family.

The Grousbeck family has put their majority share in the Boston Celtics up for sale. The news came shortly after Boston won its franchise’s 18th championship. Wyc Grousbeck is expected to remain in charge of the team during a transitional period, with 2028 tentatively set as his exit date.

During a recent news conference with reporters at Las Vegas Summer League, Stevens discussed Boston’s pending sale. The Celtics President of Basketball Operations revealed that he learned of the news shortly before it was made public; however, he stressed that it doesn’t change much in the short term.

“Well, I mean, I learned not long before everybody else did that was going to happen,” Stevens told Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe. “I obviously am very thankful for Wyc and his family and everything that they’ve done. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens from here. I don’t want to get too far into the weeds of it all but how does it affect us? It doesn’t really right now. From the standpoint of the corporate side or basketball operations we’re just head down, doing what we think is best for the now of the Celtics and the future of the Celtics. We’re lucky we (have) a good team.”

Which players have stood out at summer league?

Who have been the best players throughout Las Vegas Summer League?

The Boston Celtics wrapped up their summer league season on Sunday, July 21, with a 103-98 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. Boston ended the tournament with a 2-3 record despite some strong showings from Anton Watson, Baylor Scheierman, Jaden Springer and Neemias Queta.

There were multiple standouts across summer league this season, with Reed Sheppard of the Houston Rockets arguably leading the way. With so much young talent on display throughout the tournament, it’s only fair to wonder where they all rank against each other, especially as you try to get a jump on a potential Rookie of the Year race ahead of the new season.

In a recent episode of the “How ‘Bout Them Celtics” podcast, hosts Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance discuss the best performers throughout summer league. The hosts then place each player into tiers as they attempt to rank all of the main talents from the tournament.

Wyc Grousbeck reveals potential price to buy the Boston Celtics

Wyc Grousbeck has discussed the Boston Celtics ownership teams succession plan and their potential pricing of the franchise.

The Grousbeck family has put the Boston Celtics up for sale. The decision comes after Boston secured an 18th championship banner. Wyc Grousbeck will reportedly remain in charge of the franchise until 2028. Nevertheless, fans have begun speculating who could potentially become the next governor of the most storied franchise in NBA history.

During a recent appearance on CNBC, Grousbeck discussed the planning going into Boston’s succession plan for the ownership group and the potential price of purchasing the franchise. The Celtics cost the current ownership group $360 million in 2002, an investment that is now valued at $5.12 billion in today’s market.

Who ever purchases the Celtics will be getting a team that’s set to challenge for championships for the foreseeable future. Brad Stevens has locked down the entire core rotation for the long haul, and that can only be enticing for potential buyers.

Are the Celtics the NBA’s worst nightmare?

Are the Boston Celtics the NBA’s worst nightmare due to their deep roster and potentially long-term championship window?

The Boston Celtics steamrolled through the 2023-24 NBA season en route to a championship. Brad Stevens has constructed a seemingly flawless juggernaut on both sides of the court. He spent the opening week of free agency locking up most of the primary core for the foreseeable future by inking multiple players to long-term contract extensions.

As such, this current iteration of the Celtics doesn’t project to be disappearing anytime soon. Instead, their contention window is wide open for the next three or four years, assuming they can stay healthy and continue to sacrifice so that the team can thrive.

In a recent YouTube video by “Sporting Logically,” the host credited the Celtics as being the NBA’s worst nightmare due to the elite skillsets throughout the roster and the two-way versatility at every position.

Will the Celtics sign Sam Hauser to a contract extension?

Sam Hauser is eligible to sign a contract extension with the Boston Celtics.

The Boston Celtics have picked up Sam Hauser’s $2.1 million team option on Sam Hauser. The two teams are now eligible to discuss a contract extension to keep him with the franchise beyond the upcoming season. Hauser is a success story of the Brad Stevens era, having joined as an undrafted free agent before working his way into the rotation and ultimately helping the team win a championship in 2024.

However, the Celtics must be cognizant of the tax implications a potential extension for Hauser would bring. Due to their position as a second-apron team, and the fact they are on course to be a repeat tax offender, Hauser’s contract could run into the tens of millions in penalities.

During a recent episode of “Still Poddable,” Jay King, Sam Packard and Brian Robb discuss the likelihood of the veteran sharpshooter re-signing with Boston and sticking around as a core part of their rotation for years to come.

Boston Celtics receive an A grade for their offseason work so far

The Boston Celtics have favoured continuity during the opening weeks of the off-season, signing multiple players to new contracts.

The Boston Celtics entered the offseason as NBA champions. As a second apron luxury tax team, their ability to make moves was significantly limited. As such, Brad Stevens focused on securing the long-term future of the roster’s core rotation, inking Derrick White and Jayson Tatum to long-term extensions while bringing back Neemias Queta and Luke Kornet.

Sam Hauser is expected to sign a contract extension with the franchise in the near future. As such, the majority of Boston’s roster spots are accounted for, leaving little work to be done in rounding out the gaps toward the backend of the bench.

In a recent episode of ESPN’s “Get Up,” cap expert Bobby Marks discussed why he would give the Celtics an A grade for their work this summer, noting how Stevens has favored continuity rather than trying to build on something that was already incredibly successful.

Ron Harper Jr.’s former coach details his NBA-ready skillset for Boston

Ron Harper Jr. is currently playing in the Las Vegas Summer League for the Celtics. His former head coach believes he can stick in the NBA

Ron Harper Jr has signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Boston Celtics. He is currently with the franchise at Las Vegas Summer League, where he’s made three appearances, averaging 5.3 points per game while shooting 37.5% from the field. Harper Jr. has made a strong impression while coming off the bench for D.J. MacLeay’s roster.

During a recent interview with Bobby Deren of 247 Sports, Harper Jr’s former head coach at Rutgers, Steve Pikiell, shared his thoughts on how his former player can impact an NBA roster and what makes him a good developmental prospect in the league.

“Ron can really score and he is what the NBA looks for now—guys that can shoot the ball. And he can guard a lot of people,” Pikiell said. “He’s strong and I thought that was awesome. I know he had a really good workout too for them. So I am happy and hopefully, he gets more opportunities. He’s good. He belongs in the league. He scores points, I don’t care where he plays.”

Harper Jr. will likely be in the Celtics’ rotation as they face off against the Dallas Mavericks on Friday. Boston currently boasts a 2-1 Summer League record and will be looking to add another win against their NBA Finals opponent.

Regardless of how he performs in Friday’s game, Harper Jr. will get a chance to continue fighting for a roster spot in Boston when he attends their training camp. However, given the depth of talent at Joe Mazzulla’s disposal, he does face an uphill battle to stick with the best team in the NBA.

Is Celtics draft pick Anton Watson NBA ready?

Anton Watson was a second-round draft pick for the Boston Celtics, has he shown enough in Summer League to earn a spot on the main roster?

Anton Watson joined the Boston Celtics as the 54th pick in the 2024 NBA draft. The Gonzaga product is currently getting his first taste of NBA basketball in the Las Vegas Summer League. He has impressed throughout his first three games of the competition, showing two-level scoring, playmaking and defensive versatility.

One of the biggest questions surrounding Watson’s fit in the NBA, is his lack of size for the center position. Standing at 6-foot-8, he projects to be a power forward with the skill set to slide up as a small-ball five. In order to thrive in the NBA, Watson must improve his strength, defensive positioning, and ability to control angles.

During the latest episode of the “Celtics Chronicle” podcast, the hosts discussed Watson’s impact in Summer League and whether he could potentially carve out a role within the Celtics’ rotation in the upcoming season or near future.

Celtics Jayson Tatum on what it was like in the duck boat parade for Banner 18

“The parade was the best two hours of my life,” said Tatum.

What is it like riding in a duck boat parade thrown by the City of Boston to celebrate you and your teammates winning an NBA title with the Boston Celtics? According to star Celtics forward Jayson Tatum, it is not all that bad of an experience.

We of course may be underselling his take on the experience, which the St. Louis native recently shared on a recent episode of the Wave Sports and Entertainment Original “7 PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony and The Kid Mero” podcast. “I think for me, the best part was the parade,” said the Duke alum. “The parade was the best two hours of my life, that environment, 2 million people being outside, being on the duck boat and just the atmosphere and the energy.”

“That (expletive) was incredible, and then it’s tough,” he added. “I’ve had a lot of great things happen since then — I signed a contract, I’m trying to win a gold medal, but I’m like, all those things are great, and I’m blessed and happy for it, but it’s like I don’t want that (expletive) though.”

“We did win a championship and … it is damn near impossible to do it and every year is different,” recalled Tatum.

“Every year presents its own challenges, and it’s like I know how hard that … was to do, and it’s like I’m out here with USA Basketball trying to win a gold medal, but it’s like, yo, I just won a championship.”

Are Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown among the best players in Celtics history?

Do the Boston Celtics have two of its greatest ever players currently playing on the roster?

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are both homegrown talents for the Boston Celtics. They were drafted by Danny Ainge and nurtured by Brad Stevens and his coaching staff. During their tenure with the Celtics, they’ve played for three head coaches and consistently developed their skillsets to become two of the best forwards in the NBA.

This past season, Tatum and Brown led Boston to its 18th championship. They finally reached a goal they’ve both been working toward since entering the NBA and disproved numerous media narratives in the process.

In a recent episode of WEEI’s “Gresh and Fauria,” the hosts discussed Tatum and Brown’s careers to date and what their resumes could look like at the end of their careers. The discussion then began to focus on where they rank in Celtics history and within sports history throughout the 21st Century.
