WATCH: Diggs INT, Elliott hurdle key Cowboys’ 1st lead of game

The Cowboys came out swinging in the second half with an interception to spring momentum and a touchdown drive for Dallas. | From @CDBurnett7

Throughout the first half, the Lions made it very obvious that the threats of the Dallas pass rush and cornerback Trevon Diggs lurking were on their mind. A heavy dose of the run and quick passes kept quarterback Jared Goff out of trouble.

Starting with the ball in the second half, Detroit reached midfield and were poised to extend the lead but Goff took his first big risk of the day, testing Diggs. As it’s happened often, Diggs made a catch that would be impressive for a wide receiver to get the ball back for the Cowboys.

This is Diggs’ third interception of the season and set up Dallas with momentum. Running back Ezekiel Elliott broke loose with a hurdle, showing no signs of the first half injury scare to get the drive moving with an 18-yard gain.

Two plays later, running back Tony Pollard joined the party with a 28-yard gain to drive the Cowboys into the red zone.

The Dallas run game kept driving and capped off the drive with a Elliott touchdown run to take the lead for the first time in Week 7.

Offensive linemen Zack Martin and Terence Steele were the unsung stars of the drive, making open lanes for Elliott and Pollard to scamper through. The second half couldn’t have started better for the Cowboys, who take a 10-6 lead in AT&T Stadium.

Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott leaves 1st half after hit on right knee

The Cowboys bruising running back suffered a strong hit to his knee, but could return in second half. | From @CDBurnett7

The Cowboys are beneficiaries in 2022 of the two-back tandem of Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard. The latter has been the hme-run back while Elliott’s numbers don’t tell the full story of how impressive he’s been this season. Until the Lions game, Elliott was perfect on 3rd-and-1, a great thing to lean on especially when quarterback Cooper Rush was leading the offense.

Late in the first half against Detroit, Elliott broke loose for a 14-yard gain but took a hit directly to his knee from safety Deshon Elliott. After the contact, Elliott stayed on the ground and was checked on by trainers, a rare sight for a player who prides himself in his physicality.

Elliott jogged off to the sideline after the hit and was quickly back and ready to take the field. Quarterback Dak Prescott went and checked on his running back during the timeout and it appeared that it was only a scare.

The drive came to a halt after a fumble by wide receiver Noah Brown and Elliott will have to wait to retake the field till the second half with a 6-3 deficit in Dallas.

Cowboys sit Neville Gallimore, RB Swift out for Lions in Week 7 inactives

Prescott makes his return after a five-week absence while the Lions are without key pieces on both side of the ball in Dallas. | From @CDBurnett7

For the first time since Week 1, quarterback Dak Prescott is taking the field for the Cowboys. Backup quarterback Cooper Rush held down the fort in his absence but Prescott is a full-go after missing five weeks with a fractured right thumb. As a result, third-string Will Grier is inactive for Dallas in Week 7.

Defensive tackle Neville Gallimore is inactive after spending the week without a game-status designation on the injury report although he was battling a wrist injury. Carlos Watkins was called up to the active roster and will play against the Lions.

The latter of the Cowboys inactives are all on defense. Linebackers Jabril Cox and Devin Harper, cornerback Nahshon Wright and safety Markquese Bell round out the six-man list for Dallas.

Detroit will be without one of their strongest weapons in running back D’Andre Swift, who has dealt with an ankle and shoulder issue. The Lions will have wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown back in the fold to balance out Swift’s absence.

The seven Detroit inactives include multiple starters on defense. Defensive end Charles Harris and defensive tackle Michael Brockers are inactive, thinning the defensive line while cornerback Will Harris is also inactive.

Offensive tackle Matt Nelson, defensive linemen Demetrius Taylor and safety Ifeatu Melifonwu close out the Lions inactives.

Prescott’s return in Cowboys-Lions kicks off at 12 p.m. CT, broadcast on CBS.

The Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions square off again for the first time since 2019. In that contest, quarterback Dak Prescott threw for an astronomical 444 yards and three scores. It’s the fourth-most passing yards he’s thrown for in a victory over his seven-year career and the Lions’ defense seems the perfect opponent for his comeback appearance after missing the last five games.

The Cowboys have a chance to gain a half a game against the idle Philadelphia Eagles who are on a bye, while the Lions are coming off of their bye and trying to save their season. They started out competitively, but the bottom may have fallen out of that effort. It’s the rare early game for Dallas, which means a lot of the country won’t get a chance to tune in through normal channels. Here’s a look at the game info, how to watch or stream, and the keys to victory for each side.

Predicting Cowboys Week 7 inactives vs Lions; all DNP-coach’s decisions

With the team as healthy as ever, the inactives list will be totally about who the coaches want at their disposal, not who has to play. | From @KDDrummondNFL

There’s nothing left but the actual game, at this point. Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott has spent more than a month on the sideline, but after a full week of practice is set to rejoin the Cowboys on the field. He’ll get to square off against a bad Lions defense that will be missing a couple of his starters right when the Cowboys seem to be at their healthiest all season.

Each week follows the same schedule when it comes to who will be available to suit up on gameday. On Friday, the teams announce their official injury designations, where Dallas had only one player ruled out, compared to the Lions’ five. On Saturday, the teams announce their practice squad elevations, which add a couple options for the game-day roster. About an hour and a half before kickoff, the team will remove several players from the field and make them inactive and ineligible to get inside the chalk. For the last five games, Prescott has been a fixture on the inactive list, but not anymore.

In fact, without any injured players on the active roster, the inactive list is going to be full of coach’s decisions. Who will be a healthy scratch? Here’s our best guess at the six names that will be disappointed come noon kickoff.

Cowboys 54-man roster changes include OL to IR, 3 from PS for Week 7 vs Lions

The Cowboys are generally healthy but still had to make a handful of moves ahead of their matchup against the Detroit Lions. | From @KDDrummondNFL

The Dallas Cowboys are stunningly healthy compared to where they’ve been over the course of the season, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t injury concerns. All eyes, of course, are on quarterback Dak Prescott as he prepares to rejoin the club on the field after five weeks on the sideline. Dallas never placed Prescott on injured reserve, preferring to keep him ultimately engaged and able to communicate with Cooper Rush during games.

The same can’t be said for fifth-round rookie Matt Waletzko, who the team placed on IR on Saturday. Waletzko missed much of training camp with a shoulder injury, but was able to get himself to the point of availability prior to the season and avoiding IR. Something happened on Thursday and the team is finally preparing for the surgery they’ve put off. As a result, a spot on the 53-man roster became available.

In actuality, two spots were available after Dallas placed both WR Simi Fehoko and RB Rico Dowdle on IR last week and only adding LS Matt Overton. It’s believed they’re saving a roster spot for the NFI activation of linbacker Damone Clark, but that hasn’t happened yet. In response to placing Waletzko on IR the team has added DT Carlos Watkins. In addition to Watkins, the club has once again elevated both RB Malik Davis and TE Sean McKeon. Here’s a look at the full 54-man roster for Week 7 against the Detroit Lions.

Final injury report has all starters set to play for Cowboys vs Lions team missing 2

The trio were full participants Friday, as were several others while Detroit rules out almost 10% of their roster. | From @ToddBrock24f7

Seldom has a bunch of blank lines conveyed so much welcome information.

The Cowboys released their final practice report on Friday, complete with the weekly injury designations, and they look to be at nearly full strength heading into Week 7, with the Lions paying a visit to their den in Arlington on Sunday. Quarterback Dak Prescott was a full participant once again, for the third day in a row, and carries no injury designation for this week’s game.

He’ll make his first start since Week 1, when he fractured the thumb on his throwing hand during the season-opening loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is also listed as ready to play. He played Sunday night versus Philadelphia despite coming down hard on a hip in practice and was limited on Wednesday of this week. He’s since strung together two full sessions and looks poised to be the primary weapon for Prescott in his return.

Jason Peters, Dalton Schultz, Neville Gallimore, Quinton Bohanna, and Devin Harper were all additionally listed as having participated fully in Friday’s walkthrough and are good to go for the meeting with Detroit. Here’s a look

The only Cowboys player who was limited at all to end the week was rookie offensive lineman Matt Waletzko, who did not participate and has been declared out for Week 7.

Waletzko re-aggravated a left shoulder injury in Thursday’s practice. He is expected to be placed on injured reserve, undergo surgery, and miss the remainder of the season, although the team has not made a roster move as of yet.

“I just feel terrible for [him],” said McCarthy, per the team website. “I thought he was making such excellent progress. You could just see his development. I really like the way he’s wired.”

And apart from the fifth-rounder, the Cowboys have to like the way the rest of the roster is wired for Sunday’s showdown, with everyone who had been nursing an issue during the week showing up as nothing but blank spaces on the Friday report.
