Notre Dame football: 5 things to know for December 13, 2022

5 things to know for Tuesday

Here we are 12 days until Christmas and 17 until Notre Dame takes on South Carolina in the Gator Bowl. College football postseasons feel a whole lot different since the start of the College Football Playoff combined with the transfer portal and early signing periods.

As we count down the days until Santa drops off gifts and until we see this 2022 Notre Dame squad take the field for a final time, there are a few things to be aware of this Tuesday. Some have to do with the transfer portal, some have to do with Notre Dame players receiving national honors, and others have to do with that hated word, decommitment.

Here are your five things to know with Notre Dame football for Tuesday, Dec. 13.

Notre Dame defender offers dynamite quote about Irish defensive line

I’d buy a t-shirt with this quote on it

Most college football analysts look at Notre Dame’s offensive and defensive lines as the strengths of the team entering this season and understandably so. For purposes of this post we’re focusing on the defensive side of the ball and it all starts up front, where the Irish should be fantastic.

Isaiah Foskey, Rylie Mills, and Jayson and Justin Ademilola head the group that Phil Steele calls the sixth-best defensive line in college football entering 2022.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s showdown at Ohio State, defensive tackle Jayson Ademilola showed off the confidence he has not just in himself but in the defensive line unit as a whole.

“We’re going to play to our strengths,” Ademilola said. “We feel like we’re the toughest, strongest, badass (expletive) in the country and that’s just going to be our strengths.”

Put it on a T-shirt!

In all seriousness, this group should be one of the very best in college football this year and if Notre Dame makes a game of it Saturday night they will likely be the biggest reason.

Jerome Bettis addresses Notre Dame football team

The wheels on the Bus go round and round…

Jerome Bettis, a senior at the University of Notre Dame went back to finish school after leaving college originally following his junior year to pursue a career that didn’t require a college diploma.

Bettis is back on campus these days to earn his degree and turned 50 earlier this month.

Bettis, who originally enrolled at Notre Dame in 1990 was a top 10 draft pick of the Rams before being traded to the Steelers and eventually dashing his way into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.  Bettis spoke to the Notre Dame football team this week as he seemed to try and motivate them to become more of a unit.  See part of his speech below.
