The Cincinnati Bengals are getting back to full strength ahead of Saturday’s playoff game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Monday, the team brought the following players off the reserve/COVID-19 list:

  • Vonn Bell
  • Trey Hendrickson
  • B.J. Hill
  • Trey Hopkins
  • Joe Mixon
  • Larry Ogunjobi
  • Quinton Spain

It’s huge, although expected news for the Bengals after the mini-outbreak before the team’s season finale. There, they rested starters in a loss to the Browns, which included not even traveling Joe Burrow to the game.

With quarantine protocols in place, the Bengals will continue to take precautions in the hopes everyone will be available for Saturday’s game.

In a corresponding move, the team also waived linebacker Austin Calitro.

Joe Burrow’s first playoff game will be called by his idol, Drew Brees

“I know you get this a lot, but you were my idol growing up. I was a Saints fan because of you. ”

In only his second season as a pro (technically shorter than that if we count games missed due to injury), Joe Burrow has led his Cincinnati Bengals to the playoffs.

And now his playoff debut will get called by his idol.

Former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, as part of NBC’s broadcast presentation, will be the analyst in the booth for the game.

Not too long ago, Burrow met Brees in person for the first time while his LSU Tigers were practicing before the national championship. What followed was Burrow revealing to Brees that he was his idol, and Brees’ kids getting to meet their favorite collegiate passer.

Fast forward to now, it’ll be Brees in the booth and Burrow on the field as the Las Vegas Raiders visit Paul Brown Stadium next Saturday.

Here’s a throwback to that special moment before the playoff game:

Bengals fans react to Raiders being team’s first playoff opponent since 2015

Bengals fans had something to say about the playoff matchup.

The Cincinnati Bengals will meet the Las Vegas Raiders in the opening game of wild card weekend next Saturday in Cincinnati.

Those Bengals found out their fate late Sunday night/Monday morning as the Raiders battled the Los Angeles Chargers into the depths of overtime during a game that had playoff implications for seven different teams.

One thing that didn’t change? The Bengals were guaranteed to host a playoff game at Paul Brown Stadium next weekend.

Now that the opponent was revealed as the Raiders — a team the Bengals already beat this season — the NFL world had a lot to say about the matchup.

The Cincinnati Bengals entered Week 18 as AFC North champs and slated to host at least one playoff game at Paul Brown Stadium, so they trotted out mostly backups during the season-ending loss to the Cleveland Browns.

As a result, paired with other outcomes around the conference over the weekend, the Bengals enter the playoffs with the AFC’s No. 4 seed and will host the Raiders in the wild card round.

That showdown with the Raiders has a 4:30 p.m. ET kickoff on Saturday, January 15.

This is the NBC crew for the game:

  • Mike Tirico – Play-By-Play
  • Drew Brees – Analyst
  • Kathryn Tappen – Sideline
  • Terry McAulay – Rules

The Bengals went to Las Vegas and beat the Raiders in Week 11, 32-13. Those Raiders just played late into Monday morning in overtime to earn the right to turn around on a short week and play a Saturday game in Cincinnati.

Entering Sunday, thanks to Saturday’s results, the Bengals still had a slight shot at the AFC’s No. 2 seed. Too many things needed to go their way for that to happen though, so they settled into the fourth seed. Tennesse earned the AFC’s top seed.

Raiders vs Chargers: It’s only fitting it all comes down to this

It’s only fitting it all comes down to Raiders vs Chargers. And we wouldn’t want it any other way.

That stage has been set. Raiders vs Chargers. Win and you’re in. Lose and you’re out. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.

There was a chance this game wouldn’t have been for the Raiders’ playoff lives. And it came as close as it could have possibly come to this game not holding the stakes that it holds.

What we knew coming into today was that should the Steelers and Colts both lose, the Raiders would have their playoff ticket punched before ever taking the field. The Colts indeed lost to the Jaguars — a scenario that seemed highly unlikely not long ago.

From there it came down to the Steelers vs Ravens. We all watched in anticipation because if the Ravens pulled out the win, the Raiders were in. At that point, they would simply be playing to knock the Chargers out and raise their own playoff seeding.

The Ravens and Steelers went to overtime, just to add to the suspense. But in the end, the Steelers pulled it out, setting up the Sunday Night game between the Raiders and Chargers to decide the final playoff spot.

With the tributes to John Madden surrounding the stadium and Madden’s family set to light the Al Davis Torch, Allegiant Stadium is buzzing.

In so many ways, this game is big for the Raiders. They needed to win three straight games coming in to even be in the position right now where they could get in. Had they lost any of the last three, they’d be playing for pride right now.

Playing for pride into the season finale is something the Raiders are downright sick of. They’ve made the playoffs just once since 2002; which is approaching two decades now.

It was always going to come down to beating a division rival. That’s how the NFL has set it up, ensuring that each team plays a division foe in the season finale. But that it’s the Chargers, adds another element to this.

The Raiders’ success this season is due in large part to the former Chargers players and coaches they acquired last offseason.

Gus Bradley came over as Defensive Coordinator, bringing along with him several of his Chargers defensive staff as well.

Bradley’s arrival had a few of his defenders from LA join him. In particular guys like Casey Hayward and Denzel Perryman.

Hayward is the team’s best defensive back and Perryman went to the Pro Bowl this season as the league’s top tackler.

Other former Chargers include CB Brandon Facyson, DT Darius Philon, DT Damion Square. DB Roderic Teamer, and WR/RS Tyron Johnson.

You can bet they want badly to show their former team they made a mistake in letting them leave and there would be no better way to do that than to send them home while continuing on to the playoffs with their new squad.

Hayward was among four Raiders who were Questionable for the game along with TE Darren Waller, RB Josh Jacobs, and DT Johnathan Hankins. And all four are playing.

Waller is the key name there as he makes his return after missing the past five weeks with knee and back injuries and then being placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. No better time to get him back than for this game.

The Chargers are as healthy as they come, fielding a team that looks almost identical to their week one lineup. So, the Raiders will be getting their best.

It all comes down to this. For the chance at the dance. Buckle up, everyone. Let’s go.

Here’s who Bengals would play if playoffs started today

An interesting showdown for the Bengals if the playoffs started today.

[mm-video type=video id=01fqyq8tzx8xsr4d5h16 playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fqyq8tzx8xsr4d5h16/01fwqyq8tzx8xsr4d5h16-74c8d4df62daf2f673e90c878ab779f0.jpg]

The Cincinnati Bengals still have to take care of business against the Cleveland Browns in Week 18 and while doing so, could still jump to the second or even first seed in the AFC for the playoffs.

But if the postseason started today, the Bengals would clutch the third seed, putting them into a head-to-head showdown with the Indianapolis Colts at Paul Brown Stadium.

On paper, it’s a thrilling sort of matchup — and potentially a nightmare one for the Bengals, too. The Colts have an MVP candidate with running back Jonathan Taylor, who over 16 games has rushed for 1,734 yards and 18 scores on a 5.5 per-carry average. It’s at least important to point out after the Bengals run defense didn’t look so hot during last weekend’s win over the Chiefs.

Still, the Colts are only 9-7 and have had problems hanging on in a so-so AFC South, most recently dropping a game to a Raiders team the Bengals beat by a 32-13 margin.

It’s important to note this is very much subject to change with one week of games left, but the Bengals will host a playoff game and based on how things look now, they’ll be in a very winnable matchup.

AFC North clinching and elimination scenarios for Week 17

How the Bengals — and the rest of the AFC North — can clinch the division and a playoff berth.

It’s hard to believe we only have just two weeks left in the regular season. That means we have plenty of playoff-clinching scenarios throughout the league, including a division-clinching scenario for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Thanks to the great work over at NFL Playoff Scenarios, we have the full set of scenarios for both clinching and eliminations for each team in the AFC North in Week 17.

Here’s a full rundown of all the scenarios for each team in the AFC North, who can clinch and how any eliminations can happen.

NFL Playoff Picture 2021: Chiefs, Packers sit in top spots after big wins

The Chiefs have the inside route to the Super Bowl in the AFC.

Three weeks! Just three weeks until the NFL playoff bracket is officially set and the race towards Super Bowl LVI kicks off.

Even though the playoffs are right around the corner, the AFC playoff picture doesn’t seem to be clearing up at all. Everyone except the Jets, Jaguars and Texans has a somewhat feasible path towards making it into the postseason.

The Chiefs are at the top of the AFC, but the rest of the conference is all over the place.

In the NFC, the Packers have emerged as the top team in the conference, but the Cowboys and Buccaneers are lurking if they have any slip ups down the road.

Here’s what the NFL’s playoff picture would look like if it started today.

NFL Playoff Picture before Week 14: Bills fall to the seventh seed, Arizona strengthen grip

The world is in the palm of the Cardinals’ hands.

There’s about one month left in the NFL’s regular season, which is making the playoff picture clearer week by week.

The AFC is still largely a mess, but the Patriots are starting to separate themselves from the pack after their win against the Bills on Monday Night Football — a game in which they only needed three passes from Mac Jones to get a win on the road.

The NFC appears to have their established playoff powers at this point in the season with the not much movement happening over the past few weeks. Kliff Kingsbury and the Cardinals are still leading the NFC with a 10-2 record.

Here’s what the NFL playoff picture would look like if it started today.
