2021 NFL Draft: Mock Draft Round 2

1 (33) Jacksonville

WR Elijah Moore, Ole Miss

The Jaguars will likely trade down from this spot to crank up a slew of more picks, but if they stick, there aren’t many strong options considering their needs. They got their quarterback in Trevor Lawrence, and they have their running back in Travis Etienne. Now here comes their game-breaking receiver.

2 (34) New York Jets

CB Tyson Campbell, Georgia

Everyone knew the Jets would take Zach Wilson at the 2, and they got him a blocker with Alijah Vera-Tucker at the 14. Now they have to  deal with their cornerback issues, with Campbell one of the few good ones still remaining.

3 (35) Atlanta

LB Azeez Ojulari, Georgia

The Falcons weren’t messing around at the 4 grabbing TE Kyle Pitts, but they need pass rushing help and more disruption in the backfield. Ojulari isn’t an end, but he’s a force who can screw up offenses.

4 (36) Miami (from Houston)

OT Tevin Jenkins, Oklahoma State

Jenkins couldn’t and probably should’ve gone in the first round, but his rough Thursday should be Miami’s big get on Friday. The Dolphins need to start adding to the infrastructure after passing on Penei Sewell for Jaylen Waddle at the 6 and helping the pass rush with Jaelan Phillips at the 18.

5 (37) Philadelphia

LB Jeremiah Owusu-Oramuah, Notre Dame

Very, very, very athletic, the Notre Dame all-around playmaker can fill a big need in the back seven. It would be nice to get. defensive back here, but Owusu-Oramoah is slipping too far.

[lawrence-related id=531260]

6 (38) Cincinnati

DT Christian Barmore, Alabama

The Bengals have to address the offensive line at some point – taking WR Ja’Marr Chase over Penei Sewell was a huge call – but they also need help for the defensive front. Taking the best defensive tackle in the draft at the 38 would be terrific.

7 (39) Carolina

WR Terrace Marshall, LSU

The Panthers keep going defense, defense, defense – until now. After going all defense in last year’s draft and picking up South Carolina CB Jaycee Horn with the eighth pick, it’s finally time to grab someone for the O. Sam Darnold needs more targets.

8 (40) Denver

QB Davis Mills, Stanford

Denver had Justin Fields and Mac Jones there at the nine, but it’s hard to fault taking Alabama CB Patrick Surtain. Now it’s time to make the call on a quarterback, and Mills – who could’ve and probably should’ve slid into the first round – will be the story of Day Two.

9 (41) Detroit

S trevon Moehrig, TCU

This is beyond ridiculous. Moehrig is the best safety in the draft and could’ve gone in the top 15 with no one blinking, but he’ll slide on down way too far. The Lions will put a stop to that here.

10 (42) New York Giants

LB Nick Bolton, Missouri

After reaching a wee bit for a WR taking Kadarius Toney at the 20, now it’s time to start going after the defensive side with the linebacker that have to have. Bolton isn’t the pass rusher from the outside the Giants would like to have, but he fits the D.

2021 NFL mock draft: Just a fool’s hope

Draft Wire editor Luke Easterling makes his final predictions for the first round of the 2021 NFL draft

Okay, so the hope that Frodo and Sam would successfully destroy The Ring was a bit more dramatic than that of trying to predict the first round of the 2021 NFL draft, or even the attempts all 32 teams will make this weekend to turn their fortunes toward the Super Bowl.

But hey, if those two wily little Hobbits could make it all the way into Mordor, maybe I’ve got a shot at getting a few picks right.

As we sit just hours away from the Jacksonville Jaguars going on the clock, and presumably squeezing every possible second out of their turn before picking the guy we knew they’d pick back in January, here’s my final stab at projecting this year’s first round.

Mock draft 4.0: Exit, light… enter, night.

The 2021 NFL draft is right around the corner, and here’s how Doug Farrar sees the first round playing out in his final mock.

You may ask yourself why my final mock draft of 2021 leads with a Metallica reference. Well, besides the fact that any opportunity to slip Metallica into any article is a can’t-miss win, there is an element to the above “Enter Sandman” lyric that becomes the story as we get ready for the draft to actually begin. The light in question was the pre-draft process — even in this weird and unpresented year of COVID opt-outs, no scouting combine, and Zoom pressers and pro days when there used to be more boots on the ground, teams were putting their draft boards together and trying to figure out which players best fit their paradigms.

Now, the rubber meets the road, and enter, night. No more daylight here, and the draft dream or nightmare you’re about to encounter as a team depends entirely on the due diligence you did along the way, and the good fortune you may or may not have as your favorite guys are on the board (or not) when it’s your time to pick.

Come Thursday at 8:00 p.m. EST, there are no more big boards, no more first-round mock drafts, no more hypotheticals. Just a bunch of people in 32 team facilities trying to make sense of it all. And with my final mock of the 2021 pre-draft process, that’s what I’m trying to do: This is what I think teams will do, based on scheme, need, talent, and just a hint of randomness.

As Levi Damien, my Wire colleague on the Raiders side, said…

Sad but true, indeed.

Bengals choose weaponry for Joe Burrow in new mock draft

Another mock draft has the Cincinnati Bengals going an interesting direction.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbw0bft20de1r4d player_id=none image=https://bengalswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

The pick for the Cincinnati Bengals at fifth overall boils down to LSU wideout Ja’Marr Chase or Oregon offensive tackle Penei Sewell.

And in a new expert mock draft from USA Today Sports Network, Tyler Dragon of the Cincinnati Enquirer has the Bengals selecting Chase.

This comes on the heels of Peter King finally admitting in his final mock draft that Chase is probably the way to go, too.

The Bengals can’t go wrong with Chase or Sewell at No. 5, though the former has his LSU connection with Joe Burrow working for him, never mind the Cincinnati playbook relying heavily on three wideouts and boasting some of those LSU concepts.

Peter King’s final mock draft shows Bengals could go surprise route

A new mock draft has the Cincinnati Bengals making a big splash in Round 1.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbw0bft20de1r4d player_id=none image=https://bengalswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

Peter King, like many others, has been adamant that the Cincinnati Bengals need to take an offensive tackle such as Penei Sewell at No. 5 in the 2021 NFL draft.

But things change fast.

Late in the process, King admits in his final mock draft that the Bengals might just go a different direction:

“For a long time, I’ve thought—even railed about it in this space—that the Bengals should just sit here and pick the best tackle in the draft, Penei Sewell. And if they do, good for them. But this exercise is trying to project what I think they will do, not should do. And I’m getting to the point where I am relying on history and this particularly board in projecting something like for the Bengals:

Round 1, pick 5: Ja’Marr Chase, WR, LSU
Round 2, pick 38: Liam Eichenberg, T, Notre Dame
Round 3, pick 69: Wyatt Davis, G, Ohio State”

And King is spot on — there isn’t another player comparable to Ja’Marr Chase at wideout in this draft. There isn’t in most drafts. The Bengals can go get plenty of offensive line help later in the order.

Chase is just too much to pass up at No. 5. And that’s before taking into account his LSU connection with Joe Burrow and the LSU concepts already built into the Bengals playbook.

As the draft approaches this week, expect to hear more mocks like this throwing in the towel and pronouncing Chase as the pick.

Mock Draft 4.0: Mark Schofield’s “Mock of Integrity”

With the 2021 NFL draft just days away, what are NFL teams going to do? Only Mark Schofield knows!

It is almost here.

I am of course referring to the first 2022 mock draft of the next cycle, and I know you are all excited.

On a more serious note, the 2021 NFL draft is almost here, with the Jacksonville Jaguars officially on the clock Thursday night to kick things off. As such, it is time for the “Mock of Integrity.” No more “What I would do?” mock drafts, but rather it is time to go on the record with what I think will happen Thursday night. We have some trades, a few quarterbacks sliding and yes, Mac Jones coming off the board in the first three selections.

I’m sure that I will get everything right…

So without further ado, here is Mark Schofield’s “Mock of Integrity.”
