With rosters made up of the world’s best players, neither team has a true advantage – though the National League gets last at-bats as the home squad.
It’s basically a coin flip as the betting line suggests. We can look at this two ways:
- The AL trend is the way to go.
- The NL is due.
The AL enters on a 7-game win streak and has won 19 of the past 23 with the 2002 contest ending in a 7-7 tie.
That’s a serious trend, which is hard to ignore.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)
I’m PASSING and focusing on the Over/Under line in the next section.
However, there is value in the run lines – with the better payout coming with an AL victory of 2 or more runs.
I see no problem in making a small wager on the team you like, betting the alternate line of AL -1.5 (+165) or backing NL -1.5 (+135).
Over/Under (O/U)
UNDER 11 (-115) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1½ times your usual wager.
I learned 25-plus years ago that money can be made on betting the MLB All-Star Game Under. It’s an event I look forward to every summer because cashing a winning ticket is often the final result.
The ASG Under is usually one of my biggest wagers every year, but with this Midsummer Classic in the high altitude of the Rocky Mountains, I’m backing off a bit.
The Under is 11-2-1 in the past 14 All-Star Games … but the last time it was played at Coors Field, the Over hit with an AL 13-8 victory in 1998.
