NBA’s ‘Top ‘Jelly’ finishes of the 2021-22 season’ video features Boston Celtics

The play in question came against a certain Southeast Division squad.

Much of what got the Boston Celtics off the proverbial treadmill of mediocrity and into the NBA’s 2022 Eastern Conference playoffs as a two seed and an eventual NBA Finals runner-up was not exclusively the result of the skill of the talented roster assembled by the team’s front office.

Much more can be attributed to the way those players learned to play together by midseason under first-year head coach Ime Udoka. There was also a little luck involved, including a ridiculous buzzer-beater against a certain Southeast Division squad that would have delivered Boston a win critical in helping them get as far as they did.

That shot was so wild that the NBA included it in their “Top ‘Jelly’ finishes of the 2021-22 season” video.

Take a look for yourself at which play and what team it was, and get some pretty wild finishes for other teams around the league to watch while we wait for the start of the 2022-23 season.

Boston Celtics included in NBA’s ‘Best games of the 2021-22 season’ video

For our case at least, we agree it was one of the best games we have watched in ANY season, including the last.

By most measures one could bring to bear on judging the level of quality of games in the 2021-22 NBA season, the Boston Celtics were by default a frequent option given their league-leading defense in the second half of the season coupled with one of the better offenses in the league.

So much so that both put together carried the Celtics within two wins of a championship, Boston ultimately falling in the 2022 NBA Finals to the Golden State Warriors in six games. With that in mind, it probably should not surprise one to see that the league deemed the Celtics the right team to start out their “Best games of the 2021-22 NBA season” video.

You will have to watch the clip embedded below to see for yourself the game in question and against which team, but for our case at least, we agree it was one of the best games we have watched in ANY season, including the last.

Boston Celtics included in NBA’s ‘Best scoring performances of 2021-22’ video

The Boston Celtics really unlocked their ability to keep the ball moving and to trust the other players on the team in 2021-22.

The Boston Celtics really unlocked their ability to keep the ball moving and to trust the other players on the team to make the right play not named Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown in 2021-22. And their offensive growth coupled with their league-leading defense under first-year head coach Ime Udoka catapulted the Celtics from the proverbial treadmill of mediocrity to within two wins of an NBA title.

So, it should perhaps not surprise one to see Boston included in the “Best scoring performances of the 2021-22 NBA season” clip recently assembled by the league and shared on their YouTube channel.

Take a look at the video embedded below to see which team it was that the NBA has the Celtics playing against in it along with several other standout performances while we wait for training camp to start in a few more weeks.

Celtics camp invitee Jake Layman’s 2021-22 NBA highlights

With vet forward Danilo Gallinari likely out for the entire regular season or longer with a torn left ACL, there may be a significant opportunity for the Norwood, Massachusetts, native to play this season if he stands out at camp.

With the news Monday that veteran forward Jake Layman will join the team for training camp later this month, the Boston Celtics are assured of at least one serious competition for a roster spot.

The former Timberwolves big man will compete with Noah Vonleh, Bruno Caboclo, Denzel Valentine, Justin Jackson and Mfiondu Kabengele to make the Celtics’ roster. With veteran forward Danilo Gallinari likely out for the regular season or longer with a torn left ACL, there may be a significant opportunity for the Norwood, Massachusetts, native to play this season if he stands out at camp.

To see how he was playing last season, take a look at the clip put together by Tomasz Kordylewski embedded below.

Boston Celtics make it into NBA’s ‘Top 50 clutch plays of 2021-22’ video

And if there was a more clutch shot made all season, we certainly didn’t see it.

Perhaps more than any other play of the entire 2021-22 NBA season — playoffs and regular season combined — a certain clutch play finished by one of the team’s two star wings stands out among the wildest endings to a game in quite some time.

We are not going to name the play or even the series in question, since we want you to guess which play it was. If there was a more clutch shot made by a Boston Celtics player in recent years, we can’t think of one, and there certainly wasn’t one to compare it to last season.

The play in question made it into the NBA’s “Top 50 clutch plays of the 2021-22 season” video; see if you can’t guess which one it is before it shows up in the clip embedded below.

Payton Pritchard, Boston Celtics make NBA’s ‘Best 1-on-1 defense’ plays of 2021-22 season

Fast PP has handles and can shoot — but did you know he was a pickpocket too?

Even after having spent multiple seasons in the NBA, Boston Celtics reserve guard Payton Pritchard is often cast as a player who can’t defend well because of his size. But when a broadcaster makes that mistake on air, plenty of fans at home are jumping out of their seats to contest such a claim given what they’ve seen with their own eyes.

And it’s been captured on video that the former Oregon player is a pesky defender, with Pritchard making it into the NBA’s “Best ‘1-On-1 Defense’ Moments Of The 2021-22 NBA Season” video highlight reel recently released by the league to help carry us through the dog days of summer.

Take a look at the clip embedded below to see the play in question Fast PP forced a turnover along with other plays of note by the Celtics and several other teams.

NBA’s ’50 best defensive plays of the 2021-22 season’ clip features the Boston Celtics

That season’s Defensive Player of the Year may or may not be involved.

The 2021-22 Boston Celtics were a team, already known for its defensive chops, took things to another level on that end of the court under then-first year head coach Ime Udoka.

The Celtics took some time to do it, but by the time they had mastered Udoka’s switch-heavy style of play on defense, they had established themselves as the league’s most intimidating, effective defense. That shift in play was no small part of what got the team to within two wins of an NBA championship, falling in six games to the Golden State Warriors in the 2022 NBA Finals.

Thus it should be expected to see the Celtics included in the NBA’s ’50 best defensive plays of the 2021-22 season’ video, which has that season’s Defensive Player of the Year wreaking havoc to help get things started.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to see what defensive plays from Boston made the final cut.

NBA’s ‘Best guard blocks of the 2021-22 season’ clip features Boston Celtics

It’s not just Al Horford or Timelord sending shots into the seats in Boston.

For much of the history of the NBA, the prevailing style of play put the lion’s share of responsibility for shot blocking among the centers and power forwards of the league. But in the modern style of play currently favored by the league, it is not too unusual to see a guard send a shot into the stands.

And while it is true that for the Boston Celtics, that role is still primarily the domain of Boston big men Robert Williams III and Al Horford, everyone from Jaylen Brown to Marcus Smart in the backcourt can also swat away a poorly-timed shot attempt with little issue as well.

With that in mind, it probably should not shock one to see the Celtics featured in the NBA’s ‘Best guard blocks of the 2021-22 season’ video recently uploaded to the league’s primary YouTube channel.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to see which Celtics and what team found themselves included in the clip.

Jaylen Brown gets the Boston Celtics into the NBA’s ‘Best logo range clutch shots of the 2021-22 season’ video

Can you guess the shot in question before you watch it to confirm?

The Boston Celtics are not exactly known for being a sharpshooting team that will punish a lax defense from the logo if you leave a player open. Even so, the team managed to get itself in the NBA’s best logo range clutch shots of the 2021-22 season video with an outstanding sequence by one of the team’s sneakier long-distance marksmen.

That would be Jaylen Brown. The star forward not only drained a trey in a critical moment but did so in the face of a former teammate who had since relocated to the New York Knicks for good measure.

If you have already guessed the play in question, you should watch it again anyway — even most of a year after it happened, it’s the kind of shot that leaves the mouth open in disbelief.

NBA’s best clutch defensive plays of 2021-22 features Boston Celtics

That defense got the team to within two wins of an NBA title.

The Boston Celtics might have started the 2021-22 NBA season as something of a mess on the defensive end of the court as they tried to institute new head coach Ime Udoka’s switch-heavy style of defense. By the time the campaign ended, the Celtics had transformed themselves into arguably the best defense in the league.

That defense propelled the team past exceptionally tough opponents in the postseason and within two wins of an NBA title. That caught the attention of the league when its YouTube channel video editors put together the best clutch defensive plays of the season.

Check out the clip embedded above to see some of the most memorable Celtics plays of that kind from last season — though not all of them go Boston’s way, be warned.
