DK Metcalf urges Seahawks fans to avoid selling tickets to Vikings fans

DK Metcalf urges Seahawks fans to avoid selling tickets to Vikings fans

The Seattle Seahawks are hosting the Minnesota Vikings at Lumen Field in Sunday’s Week 16 showdown. It qualifies as Seattle’s final regular-season game at home. Mike Macdonald’s club won’t play another contest at Lumen Field during the 2024 campaign unless they win the NFC West division. They currently trail the Los Angeles Rams for that crown.

In Week 15, Lumen Field was infested with Green Bay Packers fans. The Seahawks were dominated by the Packers, losing 30-13 in non-competitive fashion. That setback may encourage The 12’s to continue selling their season tickets to the visiting fan-base. It’s been a recurring issue this season, with a similar outcome versus the Buffalo Bills earlier in the schedule. Superstar wide receiver DK Metcalf hopes that isn’t the case on Sunday.

“We still need them to come out and be supportive,” Seattle receiver DK Metcalf told reporters on Wednesday regarding the home fans. “I know in the first quarter, second or third play of the game, it got crazy loud in there. I looked around and there were a lot of Green Bay fans. They did a great job traveling, but just wishing us 12s didn’t sell as many tickets as they did to make sure we kept the home-field advantage. But yeah, man, it would mean a lot just to take this last one home and finish off the season strong so we can play again in front of them in the playoffs.”

The Seahawks will visit the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in Week 17 on a Boxing Day edition of Thursday Night Football. In Week 18, they’ll visit the Rams in a potential NFC West-deciding divisional showdown. Hopefully Metcalf and his teammates feel The 12th Man offers them a proper sending-off en route to their playoff-deciding contests in Chicago and Los Angeles. It could be our final opportunity to watch our beloved Seahawks at home until next September.

Pat McAfee has harsh words for Seahawks’ 12th Man

Pat McAfee has harsh words for Seahawks’ 12th Man

The Seattle Seahawks have long had a reputation of enjoying some of the most fierce, rabid and loud fans in the NFL. The 12th Man has grown to help define modern day home field advantage. But lately, their reputation is under assault…. and quite frankly, with good reason.

Against Buffalo, the 12th Man allowed the Bills Mafia to invade Lumen Field. Their presence was so raucous it even caused quarterback Geno Smith to say the environment at home sounded like the Seahawks were playing in a road game.

Disappointed Seattle fans weren’t the only ones to notice how bad it looked, as ESPN’s Pat McAfee didn’t mince words on his show discussing the Buffalo takeover.

I hate to admit it, but I don’t see where McAfee is necessarily wrong. At least, as far as being shocked at how the 12’s voice is being silenced to a degree. Additionally, co-host AJ Hawk’s comments on opposing teams stressing about preparing for games in Seattle are starting to feel like a memory from an increasingly distant time.

After the game I wrote about how opposing fans taking over Lumen Field is becoming an increasingly noticeable and concerning trend. Seattle sports fans, as a whole, are among the most loyal and longsuffering in the country. Their passion is unrivaled. Or, at least it has been historically.

I am not sure what the solution is to this issue right now, but if it continues for much longer, the reputation of the 12th Man may take some permanent damage.

Seahawks mourn the loss of super fan Patti ‘Mama Blue’ Hammond

Seattle Seahawks 12s, coaches and players mourn the loss of super fan Patti “Mama Blue” Hammond, who passed away at the age of 92.

Seattle Seahawks fans lost one of their best on Saturday with the passing of Patti “Mama Blue” Hammond.

“It is with great sadness and very heavy hearts that as a family we share that our beloved mom, grandma, great-grandma, great-great grandma, aunt, cousin, friend, and number 1 Seattle Seahawks fan, Patti Hammond, took her last and final breath in her Shoreline, WA home surrounded by family this evening March 4, 2023 at 7:20pm,” her family announced this week via her Facebook page.

Hammond had been a dedicated fan and season-ticket holder since the Seahawks’ inaugural season in 1976. Her colorful attire and winning smile will be missed by all.

“Patti’s joy and passion for the Seahawks was unmatched,” Seahawks president Chuck Arnold tweeted. “She was the ultimate 12, loud and loyal since day one, and was beloved by everyone in our organization. Sending all our love to her family. She will be truly missed but never forgotten!”

Arnold wasn’t the only one to chime in on social media, coach Pete Carroll and current and former players wished their condolences as well.

Rest in peace Mama Blue!

Watch: GMFB on why Seahawks fans are ‘freaking everywhere’ in Germany

Watch Peter Schrager at NFL Network explain why Seattle fans are everywhere in Munich this weekend, which could translate to an extra home game this season.

The Seahawks are technically the road team for Sunday’s game in Germany against the Buccaneers. However, any well-traveled fanbase can tell you that being “home” on the schedule doesn’t necessarily give you home-field advantage.

Pete Carroll leaving it up to fans reacting to Russell Wilson’s return

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll is going to take his lead from the fans’ reactions Monday at Lumen Field when Russell Wilson returns.

Pete Carroll and his Seattle Seahawks are carefully preparing for their season opener in front of a national audience on Monday night when Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos come to town.

Much ado has been made about how Wilson will be received by his former teammates and the fans who supported him throughout his decade in Seattle.

Carroll is going to let it all play out and go from there.

“You are either competing, or you are not, I’m leaving it up to the 12s,” Carroll told reporters during his Thursday press conference. “It’s game time and we are going for it, so however they take it, I will follow their lead on that. I’m not going to be involved in that opportunity to react, so I don’t have to make that decision. We will see what happens.

“I’ll leave it up to the 12s, I think they will know exactly what to do.”

Tyler Lockett has already admitted he’ll be front and center to hug his old quarterback. As for the fans, just like coach Carroll, we’ll have to wait until Monday night to find out.

Kick-off between the Seahawks and Broncos is set for 5:15 p.m. PT at Lumen Field.

Seahawks great Cliff Avril: Calls for Pete Carroll’s firing ‘kind of unnecessary’

Avril sat down with 710 ESPN Seattle and declared that the “Fire Carroll” crowd is overreacting to this season.

A disappointing 2021 season has left some Seahawks fans demanding that certain members of the organization be fired, specifically coach Pete Carroll. However, other fans have opposed the notion that Seattle should part ways with its head coach who has led them to sustained success over the past decade, along with former Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril.

Avril sat down with 710 ESPN Seattle and declared that the “Fire Carroll” crowd is overreacting to this season and that significant changes should not be made unless Seattle consistently misses the postseason.

“Is that a real question? Twelve seasons and you have one bad season and everybody’s like, ‘Oh, we change.’” Avril said. “No, the grass is not greener on the other side. If this is a consistent thing for the next three years, OK, now we’ve got to have that conversation. But one bad season? I feel like it’s kind of unnecessary.”

It is true that this is the Seahawks’ first losing season in a decade, but that does not necessarily mean it has been their only bad season in that time span. The 2016 Seahawks team benefitted from being in the worst division in the NFL and barely managed a winning record while some questionable officiating played a role in a few victories.

The 2017 squad featured an anemic offense with one of the worst running games of all time carried by Russell Wilson and kicking woes spearheaded by the scorned Blair Walsh, and nobody should be fooled by the 9-7 record. They have played down to the level of inferior opponents for several years and continue to do so.

External factors such as injuries have come into play over the years, but the fact of the matter is that Seattle has not looked like a legitimate championship contender since Super Bowl XLIX with the exception of 2020, in which they started out 5-0 and finished 12-4, suffering a humiliating wild card loss to the Los Angeles Rams soon after. Different players and coordinators have come and gone, but the one constant here is Carroll.

However, Avril has argued that the lack of a solid defense and running game in recent years has made the Seahawks’ continued achievement of 10+ win seasons under Carroll all the more impressive.

“None of that has been around the last couple of years. And they still have won double-digit games,” Avril said. “They might not have gone far in the playoffs per se, but they still are winning ball games and we can’t negate that.”

That sentence is fairly key, though: “They might not have gone far in the playoffs.” They have not. Strong regular seasons do not mean much when a team consistently gets bounced in the first or second round and many 12s seem to share that sentiment. Carroll has retained his job for now, but will he last much longer?

KJ Wright posts farewell to Seahawks and 12s on Instagram

Wright posted a farewell to Seahawks fans on Instagram, expressing his gratitude for his time and memories in the blue and green.

After months of speculation, linebacker KJ Wright signed a one-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, ending his decade-long tenure in Seattle.

Although Bobby Wagner was the more visible linebacker over the past eight years, Wright made significant contributions during his time with the Seahawks and assisted the team in achieving their first championship in Super Bowl XLVIII. With Wright’s departure, Wagner and Russell Wilson are now the only remaining members of the original Legion of Boom (2012-2014) era.

Wright ends his Seahawks career with 941 combined tackles (593 solo), 54 pass deflections, 13.5 sacks, 11 forced fumbles, nine fumble recoveries, and six interceptions, as well as a reputation as a beloved member of the organization among the 12s.

Carlos Dunlap sends message to 12s: ‘Excited to be back’

The Seattle Seahawks’ official Twitter account posted a video of defensive end Carlos Dunlap telling the 12s that he’s excited to be back.

Shortly after defensive end Carlos Dunlap re-signed with the Seattle Seahawks, the organization’s official Twitter account posted a video of him giving a message to the 12s.

Seattle initially released Dunlap on March 8 to create cap space before re-signing him to a two-year, $16.6 million contract. Dunlap stated that the Seahawks let him know they were still interested in him, and they were right to be.

During his half-season in Seattle, the 11-year veteran DE accumulated five sacks, 14 tackles (7 solo), six tackles for loss, 14 quarterback hits, and two passes defensed. More importantly, Dunlap had a massive impact on the Seahawks defense as a whole, assisting significantly in their turnaround over the second half of the season.

Let’s hope Dunlap can help Seattle maintain its strong defensive form for 2021.
