Ex-Broncos TE Noah Fant says his role on offense was ‘a little frustrating’

“It was a little frustrating being used in the short field,” ex-Broncos TE Noah Fant told Brandon Stokley and Zach Bye of 104.3 The Fan.

Two weeks after being traded from the Denver Broncos to the Seattle Seahawks, tight end Noah Fant went on 104.3 The Fan on Wednesday for an interview with Brandon Stokley and Zach Bye.

Stokley indicated that he believes Fant was misused in Denver, with the Broncos not taking advantage of his downfield abilities. The 24-year-old tight end agreed.

“Yeah, I mean, I agree, man,” Fant said. “I feel like when I came into the league, that’s what I was drafted to do, right? Get down the field, make those explosive plays, and kind of be that pass catching tight end. And over my time in Denver, I felt like that narrative kind of got muddled down a little bit.

“It was more of a focus of me catching flat balls or whatever it may be, and then trying to be a shifty guy and elusive guy and try to break as many tackles possible to get my yards. I view myself as a downfield threat, getting open space, then I can make things happen. It was a little frustrating being used in the short field.”

Fant was selected by the Broncos in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft out of Iowa. He never quite lived up to his first-round draft status, averaging 57 catches, 635 yards and 3.3 touchdowns per season in Denver.

Fant will now get a fresh start in Seattle. He was one of three players traded to the Seahawks as part of the Russell Wilson trade, joining quarterback Drew Lock and defensive lineman Shelby Harris.

DeMarcus Ware says Drew Lock is ‘a force to be reckoned with’

“That dude, he’s a force to be reckoned with right now,” DeMarcus Ware said of Broncos quarterback Drew Lock.

Speaking with Mark Schlereth and Mike Evans on 104.3 The Fan on Wednesday, future Pro Football Hall of Famer DeMarcus Ware spoke about Denver Broncos second-year quarterback Drew Lock.

“He was one of those guys that, I didn’t think that he could play like he played,” Ware admitted. “I’m being honest with you, I didn’t think that he was going to impact the team like he did . . . . When he came in and automatically started scoring touchdowns, automatically, all the guys around him started picking up the pieces and wanted to jump on his bandwagon.

“That’s what you want from a quarterback. And they started winning a lot more football games once he came in there and there was the spark that they needed. So now, I feel like that’s just going to carry over into this season. That dude, he’s a force to be reckoned with right now.”

Lock’s spark helped the Broncos win four of their final five games of the 2019 season. The then-rookie quarterback threw seven touchdown passes against three interceptions, totaling 1,020 yards through the air.

Ware, a nine-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion, certainly knows what it takes to have success in the NFL. Most fans in Denver are already on the Lock bandwagon — an endorsement from Ware should only solidify support for the 23-year-old quarterback from Missouri.

Emmanuel Sanders clears the air after comments on Denver radio station: ‘I’m a fan of the Broncos’

Some Broncos fans were upset with Emmanuel Sanders’ recent comments on a Denver radio station. Sanders cleared the air on Friday.

Former Broncos wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders went on 104.3 The Fan — a Denver radio station — this week to talk about his time with the Broncos and about his new team, the 49ers.

One topic that was brought up was the different cultures established by Denver’s and San Francisco’s leadership. Sanders seemingly prefers the 49ers’ approach.

“I feel like sometimes in the NFL, teams cautiously treat guys like kids,” Sanders said, via The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala. “That’s one thing I noticed here [in San Francisco] in the aspect of they treat everybody like grown men.”

Sanders was seemingly praising the 49ers’ organization more than he was discrediting the Broncos’ organization but not all fans in Denver saw it that way.

“Funny we got better after he left too,” one fan remarked on Twitter.

Sanders apparently took notice of the backlash on social media and posted a response on his Twitter page Friday.

“I should of never went on a Broncos sports station to talk 49ers,” Sanders wrote. “I knew it was a bad idea when they reached out and asked. I knew some people would twist everything as if I’m throwing shade at the Broncos in describing the 49ers environment. Just know I’m a fan of the Broncos.”

The receiver’s tweet was well-received by fans.

Sanders and the 49ers will face the Vikings in the divisional round of the NFC playoffs on Saturday afternoon on NBC.
