Nate Wiggins’ injury from Saturday’s game against Florida State isn’t as serious as it first appeared.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said Wiggins suffered a bone bruise to his knee but has no ligament damage, calling the diagnosis the “best-case scenario.”
Wiggins went down with 12 seconds left in the FSU game, as he and safety Jalyn Phillips broke up a pass on fourth down to force overtime. The junior cornerback had to be carried off the field while putting no pressure on his left knee.
Swinney added that Jeadyn Lukus would be in line to start if Wiggins misses any time. Lukus replaced Wiggins in overtime against the Seminoles and gave up the game-winning touchdown to Keon Coleman.
Wiggins recorded a 46-yard pick-six against Florida Atlantic in Week 3 and has four total tackles and one sack on the year.
