Steve Sarkisian suggests an open QB battle during the offseason

Quinn Ewers may have won the job for the 2022 campaign but his spot is not guaranteed moving forward.

Steve Sarkisian hinted at a quarterback competition over the course of the offseason.

Quinn Ewers may have won the job for the 2022 campaign but his spot is not guaranteed moving forward. The Texas head coach stated during his Monday press conference he plans to have an open quarterback battle over the offseason.

“So, like every year, we’ll go into the offseason and wipe the slate clean and let these guys compete and battle and see what it looks like, because that’s what makes us better. And, ultimately, when other guys are working at their craft, that should motivate us to want to continue to improve our game.”

Texas is expected to have no shortage of talent options at the quarterback spot going forward.

Quinn Ewers returns as the favorite to win the job yet again. He faces a crucial offseason to develop his skills and gain more comfort with the offense.

Potentially fighting for the starting gig behind Ewers are redshirt junior Hudson Card and redshirt freshman Maalik Murphy. Each player was highly recruited in their respective classes and been praised by Sarkisian during the season.

Joining the stacked quarterback room in Austin for the upcoming semester is No. 1 overall prospect Arch Manning. The five-star is going to add immediate competition to the unit from day one.
