Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian has been named to the Paul “Bear” Bryant Award 2022 Coach of the Year watch list. The honor is annually given to the top head coach in college football for actions on and off the football field.
Sarkisian was one of 25 coaches from around the country named to the list. Five Big 12 coaches made the cut, including Mike Gundy (Oklahoma State), Sonny Dykes (TCU), Lance Leipold (Kansas) and Chris Klieman (Kansas State).
The Longhorns look like one of the more improved teams in college football.
Texas (5-2) ranks No. 20 in the nation. The Horns are firmly in Big 12 Conference title contention through Week 7. The five wins already match last season’s total for Sarkisian’s squad.
If Texas can continue its good play down the stretch of the season, Sarkisian deserves serious consideration as one of the best coaches in America.
