Steve Kerr believes Kings’ Mike Brown should win NBA Coach of the Year

Steve Kerr had high praise for his former assistant coach.

Along with previewing a potential playoff matchup, Friday’s contest between the Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors marked another game between Steve Kerr and his former assistant coach Mike Brown.

Before the Warriors squared off against Brown and the Kings in the second to last game of the regular season, Kerr had high praise for his former assistant coach. Kerr told members of the media Brown has done a “brilliant” job in Sacramento and is “hands down” the NBA Coach of the Year.

In his first season in Sacramento, Brown has led the Kings to one of their best records in over a decade. With 48 wins on the season, the Kings have locked up the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference. On the way to their first playoff series since 2006, players like De’Aaron Fox, Damontas Sabonis and Kevin Huerter have enjoyed career years in their first season with Brown as their head coach.

Brown served alongside Kerr on the Warriors’ bench since 2016, winning three titles during his time in the Bay Area. Brown has already hoisted the NBA’s Coach of the Year title in his career, earning the award in 2009 after leading LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 66-16 record.

If the Warriors land the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference, Kerr and the Warriors will meet Brown, Leandro Barbosa, Harrison Barnes and the rising Kings in the opening round of the NBA playoffs.
