Steelers have found a dynamic duo in rookies Kenny Pickett, George Pickens

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ top picks from the 2022 NFL draft are already turning into a promising tandem

The Pittsburgh Steelers made a lot of noise in the 2022 NFL draft last April, when they were the only team in the league to dip into a lackluster quarterback class with a first-round pick, Pitt’s Kenny Pickett.

They followed that up in the second round by giving Pickett one of the best weapons in the entire class, Georgia wide receiver George Pickens.

While both prospects came with their caveats, they’re quickly proving that the Steelers were wise to make them their top selections in this year’s draft.

Over the last three games, Pickett has lead Pittsburgh to a 2-1 record, playing the best football of his young career, and showing tons of positive development. He’s had zero turnovers during that stretch, leading what has become a dynamic offense that’s averaging 24 points a game.

The rookie quarterback has found a unique connection with Pickens during those three games, as the former Bulldog has led the Steelers in receiving yards with 173 on 10 receptions, including a touchdown.

Should this Pickett-to-Pickens connection continue on its current trajectory, it will mean great things for the future in Pittsburgh, including a quick turnaround after the departure of Ben Roethlisberger. Moving on from a franchise quarterback like that is a steep challenge for any team, but handing Pickett a weapon like Pickens, should accelerate that transition.

Both of these rookies are looking like budding superstars, and the last three weeks are just scratching the surface of their potential.
