In 2022, the Pittsburgh Steelers salary cap was all out of whack. The team had poured two-thirds of their cap into the defense and had far underspent on the offensive side of the football. This felt somewhat counter-intuitive but when you give huge contracts to stars like outside linebacker T.J. Watt and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, some of that should be expected.

But in 2023, general manager Omar Khan has balanced things out and the team sailing smoothly heading into training camp.

Pittsburgh currently has just over $118 million on the books for defense and $105 million spent on offense. This number could change as the Steelers still have just over $13 million in cap space and are working on a contract extension for edge rusher Alex Highsmith.

General manager Omar Khan has taken full control of this team and has the roster in place to make the Steelers AFC contenders sooner rather than later.
