Sporting News names Alabama the No. 1 football over the past 10 years

The Alabama Crimson Tide is number 1. This time, it’s because Sporting News named the Crimson Tide the best team over the past 10 years.

Once again, the Alabama Crimson Tide is number 1. This time, it’s because Sporting News named the Crimson Tide the best team over the past 10 years.

Sporting News ranked all the FBS programs by their past 10 seasons. They used a type of statistical formula that combined both the Bowl Championship Series and the CFB playoff eras to determine the top 25 CFB programs.

Here is how Sporting News calculated the top 25 teams:

National championships: 10 points each
National title game appearances: 5 points each
College Football Playoff appearances: 5 points each
New Year’s Day Six/BCS bowl appearances: 3 points each
Heisman Trophy winners: 2 points each

So, with all of that said, here’s how Sporting News decided Alabama was the No. 1 team:

“Nick Saban led Alabama to four of five national championships in the past decade, and the Crimson Tide played for a national championship six times in 10 seasons. Alabama has the best winning percentage, most NFL Draft picks and most All-Americans in that dominant stretch. The season doesn’t really start until Alabama loses. It remains the standard for other programs to follow.”

There’s no doubt that Alabama is truly the No.1 team over the past 10 seasons. Since 2010, the Tide has won 4 national titles (2011, 2012, 2015, and 2017).

And Alabama has shown no sign of stopping.
