Softball drops doubleheader against Wichita State and Missouri

Nebraska entered day two of the Big Red Invitational with a doubleheader against Wichita State and No. 14 Missouri. The Huskers fell in both games, suffering a 17-4 loss to the Shockers and then a 10-6 defeat to the Tigers.

In the loss to Wichita State, Nebraska surrendered three runs in the first, seven in the second, and seven more in the sixth. Brooke Andrews led the Huskers on offense, going 2-for-3 and hitting one double. Billie Andrews hit 1-for-3 with a double. Ava Bredwell also doubled and delivered an RBI.

In the loss to Missouri, the Huskers attempted a comeback after falling behind 9-1 in the fifth inning but fell short in a 10-6 loss. Nebraska scored five runs in the fifth to make it 9-6. But Missouri scored one more run and shut Nebraska out in the sixth and seventh innings.

Emmerson Cope led the Huskers at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Billie Andrews also drove in two runs, pushing her hitting streak to 12 games.

Nebraska falls to 8-9 on the season and will conclude the Big Red Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The Huskers will face No. 14 Missouri at 1:30 p.m. The game can be viewed on B1G+.
