Sixers beginning to have contract extension talks with Matisse Thybulle

The Philadelphia 76ers are beginning to have contract extension talks with Matisse Thybulle.

Philadelphia 76ers fourth-year guard Matisse Thybulle is one of the elite defenders in the league. He has career averages of a block, 1.6 steals and shooting 32.4% from beyond the arc in 21.8 minutes. He has worked on his offensive game to the tune of 44% shooting from deep in the preseason.

As he begins his fourth season, Thybulle is eligible for a rookie-scale contract extension. However, it has to be done before 6 p.m. EDT on Monday, or he will enter restricted free agency in the 2023 offseason.

Per Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports, the conversations between the Sixers and Thybulle have been brief, but good. Haynes reports:

Conversations have been with Thybulle’s agent, Aaron Goodwin of Goodwin Sports.

The key for Thybulle has always been his jumper. He needs to be productive on both ends of the floor. He has been terrific on defense; he can wreak havoc on the opposition, but he has been a non-factor on the offensive end.

If he can carry his preseason 3-point shooting over to the regular season, that would be a huge development for him and the Sixers in the future.
