Here’s six Texas Longhorns that could be on college football award watch lists for the 2021 season.

Newly hired defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski had the same position at Washington while coaching linebackers as well. With Kwiatkowski coming to the Forty Acres, he inherits a great player at that position in DeMarvion Overshown. He’s already being mentioned as a potential pre-season All-American and on the watchlist’s for the Bednarik, Butkus and Nagurski awards.

The third-year linebacker earned All-Big 12 honors in 2020 and finished second on the team in tackles and tackles for loss. Overshown also led the team in interceptions and pass breakups.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise. He’s 6-foot-4,  220-pounds and is already being discussed as a first round draft pick in the 2022 NFL draft. He can do it all — tackle, blitz, play coverage, etc. He’s the defensive captain of this team and the eyes of Texas, and all of college football, are upon him.
