The Jacksonville Jaguars have released former Tennessee Titans outside linebacker, Kamalei Correa, per the league’s transactions wire on Thursday.
Along with a seventh-round pick, Correa was traded from the Titans to the Jags last season for a sixth-round pick after the veteran requested to be dealt because of his limited role in Tennessee’s defense.
Little did Correa know that had he just stuck it out with the Titans, he would have had played significant snaps thanks to the team’s issues at the position stemming from injury and ineffectiveness.
In his six games with Jacksonville, Correa didn’t do much, which basically made the trade a steal for the Titans. He totaled seven combined tackles, one pass defensed and zero sacks while playing just 14 percent of snaps.
So, with the Titans in the market for at least one outside linebacker this offseason, could we see a reunion with Correa in Nashville?
It’s certainly possible, however Correa is likely seeking a situation in which he can play significant snaps, and the Titans may not have anything more than a depth role for him once again in 2021 if they land the impact pass rusher at outside linebacker that the team desperately needs.
While Correa has flashed as a starter with the Titans before after totaling six sacks in his last eight games of the 2019 campaign (including playoffs) and has proven to be an asset against the run, he wouldn’t be the kind of impact addition the Titans desperately need at the position.
If Correa is willing to sign on as a depth piece once again, Tennessee should absolutely bring him back. Depending on him to be anything more than that would be a huge mistake on general manager Jon Robinson’s part.
