Shaun Wade officially opts out of Ohio State season, will prepare for 2021 NFL Draft

Ohio State cornerback and potential first-round 2021 NFL Draft pick Shaun Wade has opted-out of the season and will prep for the draft.

We starting to see some defections to the NFL for whatever version of the 2020 football season we end up seeing for Ohio State. Late last week, offensive lineman Wyatt Davis announced his intentions to opt-out and prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft, and now we have another.

Former five-star prospect and rising fourth-year junior Shaun Wade has also made the call to opt-out of the 2020 college football season and prepare for the upcoming draft.

Wade, like Davis, is projected to be a first-round draft pick. According to ESPN’s Mel Kiper, he is listed as the No. 7 overall prospect on his big board. Making this decision now is no surprise. His father has routinely hinted at the Buckeyes’ top cornerback sitting out the season if things went towards the spring, and with the Big Ten still trying to get its act together, there’s really not a whole lot of movement in Wade’s draft stock that’s going to occur at this point.

He came back for one more season after flirting with the decision to enter the NFL Draft last year and was expected to be the No. 1 lock-down option on the back end of the defense in 2020. However, that will no longer happen it appears.

Wade shared his intentions in a social media post you can see below. In it, he thanks Buckeye Nation and looks forward to his next adventure.

We wish nothing but the best of luck for Wade and we look forward to seeing him hit the Buckeyes in the NFL highlights in the near future.
