Shane van Gisbergen officially released from contract in Supercars

Shane van Gisbergen has officially been released from a contract with his Supercars team, which paves the way for his entrance to NASCAR.

[autotag]Shane van Gisbergen[/autotag] has been plotting a move to the United States of America to participate in NASCAR starting in 2024. The first domino of van Gisbergen’s plan fell on Wednesday morning after an announcement from his current Supercars Championship team.

Red Bull Ampol Racing announced on social media that Will Brown will replace van Gisbergen next season. It was previously reported that the PROJECT 91 driver wanted to make sure his current organization found a replacement before signing anything on paper. Now, this allows van Gisbergen to pursue opportunities in NASCAR for next season.

There are several teams that make sense for van Gisbergen; however, Trackhouse Racing is reportedly finalizing a full-time development deal with him for next year. It would likely mean van Gisbergen is not in the NASCAR Cup Series on a full-time basis at least for 2024. If it is finalized, it would be a massive victory for NASCAR.

PROJECT 91 would bring van Gisbergen to NASCAR and he likely wouldn’t be the last international driver to go this route.
