Seth Curry, other Sixers ready to step up in absence of Ben Simmons

Seth Curry and other members of the Philadelphia 76ers are ready to step up in the absence of Ben Simmons.

It is no secret the Philadelphia 76ers will be missing a huge part of their team as Ben Simmons holds out to force his way out of Philadelphia. An ugly soap opera has leaked into training camp and the 25-year-old three-time All-Star has threatened to not play in another game for the team.

If that is the case, the Sixers will have to rely on numerous other players, Seth Curry, Shake Milton, Tyrese Maxey and even Danny Green, to step up and provide more.

Curry, for example, can play both guard positions and prides himself on that. He is more of a shooting guard and a guy who looks for his 3-point shot, but he might have to provide more.

“I’ve done that my whole life,” said Curry. “For me, of course, I can shoot, but if you really watch me play, I’ve got a lot of different layers to my game, nothing new. I pride myself on being a very versatile player offensively, being able to play the 1 and the 2 at times. I can adapt to any situation so no matter what the team needs from me, I’m ready to do it.”

Then, there is Milton who was the team’s starting point guard briefly in the 2019-20 season and in the 2020 playoffs in the bubble. He also has a year playing for coach Doc Rivers under his belt, so if he needs to step up in the absence of Simmons, he is prepared.

“You can kind of see it, right?” asked Milton. “Me and Reese are two of the people who handled the ball the most outside of Ben so we know we have to step up and we’re ready for it. Reese puts in a lot of work, I put in a lot of work, and I think it’s going to be fine.”

Nobody knows what will happen with Simmons. The Sixers are hoping to bring him back and reconcile, but there is no indication he wants to return. That puts pressure on the other guys to perform.

“Whatever happens,” Milton finished. “If he comes back and we’re doing our thing like we were last year or if the roles change this year, I feel like we’ll be ready.”
