Seahawks QB Geno Smith wins AP’s NFL Comeback Player of the Year

After his first year as the starting quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks, Geno Smith won the Associated Press Comeback Player of the Year.

Although the Seattle Seahawks didn’t make it deep into the playoffs following the 2022 season, starting quarterback Geno Smith received top honors for his impressive campaign.

On Thursday night during the 12th annual NFL Honors, Smith was awarded the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year by the Associated Press.

In his first year replacing Russell Wilson, Smith finished the regular season completing 399 of 572 passes attempted for 4282 yards, 30 touchdowns and a passer rating of 100.9.

Two other Seahawks were in contention for awards Thursday night but did not come away in the top spots. Running back Kenneth Walker III finished second in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting and cornerback Tariq Woolen landed at third place for Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Smith wasn’t present in person to accept his trophy, but local product Joel McHale subbed in nicely.
