The Seattle Seahawks extended an exclusive rights free agent tender to guard Jordan Roos, according to ESPN’s Brady Henderson. They also opted not to offer one to tight end Tyrone Swoopes, making him a free agent.
Roos will make the league minimum in 2020, but he cannot negotiate with other teams as part of his status as an exclusive rights free agent.
He either has to sign the contract or forego playing in the NFL this season, the same situation receiver Malik Turner is in as well.
Roos, 26, went undrafted out of Purdue and appeared in 14 games for the Seahawks over the past three seasons, including seven last year.
His versatility has been his calling card for the Seahawks, who even tried him out at center in practice last season. He’ll have a long road ahead of him to be a starter next season, but he’ll provide solid injury depth yet again.
Swoopes did not have a clear path to playing time in Seattle following the team’s signing of veteran Greg Olsen, the return of Jacob Hollister, and the likely return of veteran Luke Willson.
He’ll look for another NFL opportunity, but could rejoin the Seahawks as training camp depth if nothing else emerges.
