Sam LaPorta, Jack Campbell register NFL career firsts

The Hawkeye pipeline is strong! Jack Campbell and Sam LaPorta are showing out for Detroit today, registering respective career firsts.

My, oh my, Sam LaPorta! Welcome to the NFL, sir!

The former Iowa Hawkeyes tight end just reeled in his first career NFL touchdown as a member of the Detroit Lions and it is one he certainly will never forget. LaPorta showed off his speed and wiggled completely free from the Atlanta Falcons‘ defense to get wide open downfield.

Lions quarterback Jared Goff saw LaPorta give a little shimmy at the top of the route to spin the safety completely around and streak towards the end zone. The ball was delivered perfectly on time and in stride.

Just before halftime, LaPorta is making his presence already felt for the Lions. On the day, LaPorta has already reeled in six catches for 70 yards and the touchdown. It is evident that Jared Goff already has some chemistry and a sense of trust in the Iowa product when needing a big completion in the middle of the field.

Not to be outdone, former Iowa Hawkeyes linebacker and Dick Butkus Award Winner, Jack Campbell, wanted to make his first big statement in the NFL. Campbell got on the board with his first career sack as he brought down Desmond Ridder to end the first half.

Campbell already has three tackles on the day and is flashing his defensive ability. Campbell has already flashed his athleticism and is only going to continue to get better as time goes on.
