Sabres’ Tage Thompson scored a ridiculous 5 goals in just two periods and NHL fans were in awe

Tage Thompson did what now?!?!

Have yourself a night, Tage Thompson!

On Wednesday, the Buffalo Sabres headed to Ohio to face off against the Columbus Blue Jackets in an Eastern Conference matchup. Unfortunately for the Blue Jackets, it got late early after the Sabres posted six goals in the first period, with four coming in the opening 10 minutes of the period.

The leader of the charge was none other than Thompson, who posted four of the Sabres six first period goals and had five overall goals by the end of the second period. Yes, Thompson had a whole hat trick — and then some — in 40 minutes of hockey! It was just as ridiculous and as awesome as it sounds.

Something like what Thompson did just doesn’t happen in hockey often. If you were wondering, the NHL record for goals by one player in a single game is seven, set way back in 1920. No one’s even scored six since 1968!

NHL fans were completely in awe of Thompson’s incredible, historic game for the Sabres.
