In case you missed it, Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields appeared on ESPN radio Monday to continue the good fight, one in which he hopes to convince the Big Ten to reinstate a fall football season in 2020.
It’s a continuation of the #WeWantToPlay movement on social media, and the creation of an online petition addressed to commissioner Kevin Warren and the league that now has over 255,000 signatures as of Monday evening.
But what does his head coach Ryan Day think of the moves Fields is making? It’s an interesting spot to be in. On one hand, Day has to support the conference he’s in, but on another, he clearly believes in the fight for his players that have put in so much work on a season that had so much promise.
Day took to Twitter Monday to express his pride for how Fields is leading his team, clearly putting his weight behind all the effort he is putting in to give his players another opportunity to compete.
I could not be more proud of Justin Fields and I support his efforts. He loves Ohio State. He loves his teammates. We ask our players to be leaders and he’s leading. I’m honored to coach him and this team. #FIGHT.

So, there you have it. One could make an argument that Ohio State is a bigger brand than the Big Ten, and it appears as though the Buckeye program is trying to stick up for its players regardless of the position the conference has taken.
Day has continually encouraged his players to have a voice on matters that mean a lot to them and society, and this is just one more example.
It’s no wonder players love playing for him.
